I think the cave farm is coded to only really grow mushrooms properly, and the mushrooms coded to not grow properly anywhere else.

ima explain: When I switch tabs to this to chat, or read, I then switch back, but my character is moving without any key being pressed, unless I button-mash the movement keys.

Earlier, my little person got stuck walking down, but only until I finally hit down again.

Sounds like the key was being pressed when you tabbed away, and because you were out of the tab when the key stopped being pressed, the game doesn't get to register the "key up" scenario.

If it misses the key up event, just repeating key up by doing a key down and then a key up can fix it
