I suggest that we should be able to:

-ping users ( by using @username)
So you know for sure someone saw your reply to them on a forum post/to attract someones attention to something they might be interested in

-favorite/bookmark threads
So you can keep from losing a thread you're interested in so you can come back to it later.

I've looked at @ replies before. The long and short of it is that they are on my list, but quite low down; the complexity is enormously high given that a single person can have multiple identities (characters) and that multiple characters owned by totally different people can all have the same name, and character names can be changed at any time.

For bookmarking -- I'm hesitant to spend development time recreating this feature, since bookmarking is already built into every browser on the planet. We have a vague parallel in "subscribing" to topics. If you go to Home and then click the pencil next to "subscribed topics" (in the sidebar) you can see all of the topics you're watching. :)

Ah, I can see how it would be a problem tagging people AND characters in forum posts... i hadnt thought of that. Maybe just for user profiles, in the ooc forums? Or not at all, Its just weird to be on a forum without them, laffs.

Also I didnt see the list of subscribed topics, thats super useful.

Yeah, @ replies have definitely risen to dominance in the last 6 years! That's one of the troubles of a home brew system, we have to build everything from scratch. ;)
Out of curiosity Kim, have you considered something akin to the user name suggestion our private message system uses? Someone types @namehere, & a small box appears to suggest names? Would that be hard to do in a forum?

This is pretty much the plan for how to eventually implement it. :)
