It might just be because I'm a total newbie, but I'm wondering about how we could call out a player (or maybe a character) in a forum post? For example, in most social media sites, you can loop another person into a conversation via the '@' symbol. Maybe there is something like that in BBCode, but I didn't spot it on a read-through of RPR's guide.

A more specific example: I'd like to be able to say 'hey @Kim, check out this great feature idea!' from a thread that you might not have otherwise checked, from a player who might not have thought to make a suggestion themselves. (Maybe not spam like that, but other utilities would be to ping a group thread when it's someone's turn, or in pinging a friend whose character would relate beautifully to another player's character being talked about.)

I have a feeling this suggestion is already implemented... if so, mind pointing me towards it?

Thank you!

Hi there!

We actually haven't implemented this yet, although it's definitely on my radar and on the features-to-be-added list. It turns out to be quite complicated, given that a single user can have multiple characters, and multiple characters on the site can have identically the same name. A lot of interfaces need to be created for selecting who you actually mean without it being an onerous process. Ideally, it would be a lot like Facebook's @ feature, where when you start typing a name it immediately offers a dropdown of suggestions for people with that name.

I'd also like to offer some controls to people over who can @ them, such as "only let people I have friended @ me" or similar.

That all sounds lovely! I suppose that you could make a drop-down menu with the likes of something like this for options:

{Dropdown menu here}
@Player A
@Player B
@Player C

And if someone finishes typing in the player name and adds a colon, the list of characters comes up, removing other players?

{Dropdown menu here}
@Player A:Character 1
@Player A:Character 2

The biggest conflict I can see from that is Anonymously played characters, but you could use something like the following, with the options of which character to pick shrinking as you began typing in the character's name.

{Dropdown menu here}
@Anonymous:Character 1
@Anonymous:Character 2
...
@Anonymous:Character 999

I really like the option of only letting certain layers of people to @ you! Alongside friends-only, maybe another option for 'only allow other 18+ players @ me or my characters'? I'm not sure if that is fair, but since we've got a part of the forum specific to adults, perhaps local rules could require that nobody can @ a minor to ping them about a thread within that sub-forum?

Lots of things to digest with this ask... thank you for listening and keep on rocking! :D
