This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

The Chantry teaches that it is the hubris of men that brought the darkspawn into existence. The mage rulers of the Tevinter Imperium sought to conquer heaven; instead, they annihilated it. They were cast out, twisted with the darkness of their own corruption - the first of the darkspawn . Quickly they became a relentless force, and they attacked the Dwarven Empire, destroying entire Thaigs, and accessed the surface - creating the first Blight. On their path they leave only death and destruction, and their Taint kills and corrupts all life.
Fear gains the citizens of the Tevinter Imperium, whose armies and blood mages are so far unable to contain the darkspawn.
But rumor has spread of a group of soldiers who have found a way to be immune to the Taint - the Grey Wardens; the magisters of Tevinter seem to experiment a new way of using Blood Magic, and the Dwarven Empire, although isolated from the surface, is leading expeditions to recover its artefacts from the Old Thaigs.

In a half destroyed world, made of ashes and hope, will you manage to put an end to the Blight? Or will you end on the pike of darkspawn?

Dragon Age: Roots of Darkness

This RP is fantasy, inspired directly from the universe of Dragon Age. It will use (more or less) strict game mechanics : stats and dice rolling included. If you want to join, please answer this topic - your character has to be a human, dwarf or elf. You can also play as a Demon, although these have less influence on the world than others.

Rules:
1. Combat is determinated by a defense and attack D100 throw. The attacker deals the defender his attack roll minus the defenders roll. If the result is negative, the defender strikes back and deals the result as damage to the attacker. Some items and situations (which will be determinated during the game) give bonuses to the fighters.
2. D20 rolls are used for skill checks.
3. Please warn if you are going to be AFK more than a week, so the party won't be stuck in the meantime and can engage in side quests.
4. Godmodding is allowed to some extent - however great powers must bring great weakness to keep the game balanced (message me if you are unsure about that). Having a too powerful character is not allowed; the characters must also be either a dwarf, elf, human or Qunari (or any other playable race of Thedas).
5. This is a fandom, so please use the Thedas geography and history. It doesn't have to be precise, but don't refer to places out of it. The time is 800 TE.
6. A PC has 100 health in regular time. It takes one in-game day to heal 50% of what's left of the wounds, which means one cannot recover all the health naturally. Below 10 health, a character needs magic to heal. Over 90 health, a character is considered healthy and has no problems.

Fellow roleplayers, let the games begin!
Magic 50%
Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
Technology 20%
Iron age
Combat 70%
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.

Details: Character sheets & strict mechanics, adjustable length posts, long-term RP partner preferred.

I’m up for it; I’ve actually played Dragon Age: Inquisition, so I’ve got a good bit of knowledge on the subject. Also, if need be, I can modify my characters to fit into the lore.

Great! Having played a game from the license will indeed help, even though those events happening very long before the games. Which character do you plan to use?
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

Please note no knowledge of the games is required - the events happen long before. As to the universe of Thedas, the Dragon Age Wiki gives the information required to play, and in case you have questions I'll gladly answer them.
I was planning on Neemus, maybe, though Nathan or Aaron would probably be more lore-friendly.

Well, Dragonborns like in Skyrim (soul of a Dragon in a human body) are indeed unheard of, but as back in the time of the First Blight, dragons were rare yet undeniably existing, it is possible to image Neemus as a human with dragon blood and genes, which explains his appearance too (since Argonians or reptilian humanoids don't exist in Thedas).
As for Aaron, he would have to change status (half-demon instead of son of Netharan) but perfectly works as a mage (a good restriction to his mastery of fire magic being his demon origins, which would make him a target to priests, clerics and mage hunters).
For Nathan Howard, he'd make a good warrior, but then you'd have to modify him a little (his actual specialization being guns and power armors).
In the end, you can choose whatever character you'd prefer to play - all 3 can fit.
I’m conflicted on who to use, actually. I guess I’ll go with Neemus, but if you’ll allow me to, I’d like to use Aaron too. As for adjustments, I have no problem with any changes for the RP; consider them done.
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

Well it's going to be quite difficult if you have multiple powerful characters at once - either you use only one or they'll be nerfed in a way.
Well, Neemus isn’t always the Dragonborn; he’s mostly an assassin for hire. As for Aaron, he only controls flame, so he won’t be too much of a problem to ‘nerf.’
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

"Only flame" is a great power, it will remain powerful but to balance it must be blood magic. As for Neemus, an assassin with dragonic ancestry yet no dragon soul is more than acceptable, since that will give him a good natural armor which makes no noise.
Neemus Xercles (played by Arcol)

Then I’ll be Neemus; I look forward to our adventure.

As you wish. May your road lead to warm sands in the meantime.
((I’ll need to create a new character but I’ve played all three games and beat the first two...what do I need to know...not too familiar with the timeline according to games were does the story fall...?...))
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

This takes place before the first game, back when the Tevinter Imperium was at its apogee - you don't need much knowledge on the timeline, I don't plan on using it very precisely.
((Just wanted to make sure I didn’t need to relate to any of the events of the games...so I guess I’ll create a oc and jump in if I’m allowed to that is...))
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

((I must still make the starter, I probably won't be able to post it until after tomorrow ))
((Okay. I plan to use my character Buki for this...))
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

((Buki perfectly works as an arcane warrior. The setting is in the Tevinter Imperium, so blood magic is allowed and common, and the Elves are mostly discriminated, although Dalish clans still exist. Is everyone OK with working as mercenaries for the Imperium, or should I do another starter ?))
((Well Buki would’ve just abtaoned her freedom or she is still a slave. Which she could easily be a slave to one of the mercenaries...))
The Narrator (played by JohntheWarden) Topic Starter

((as her skills were remarked by the Magister, it was decided she would be serving in the army in exchange of her freedom. She is no slave, but no free elf yet.))
