FOBETEO 2024 Day 5: The Power of Gratitude

Posted by Kim on December 6, 2024, 9:00am

Gratitude practices. The idea of deliberately scheduling a few minutes of time each day to think or write about what we are grateful for that day.

A perfect topic for FOBETEO, combining our gratitude for the good others bring into our lives with self-care? Undoubtedly. And yet it's so strange to be writing about this topic, because I have been known to cringe a bit when I hear other folks talk about it. It feels, to me, a bit asinine. And yet... there's so much research that says that gratitude practices work that even a grumpy woo-hater like me just can't deny it.

Heck, the mayo clinic full on says it can improve your sleep, mood, and even reduce your risk of a lot of kinds of diseases.

That's pretty incredible! Even if you aren't rushing out to start a gratitude journal for the year, take a little time this weekend to tell your friends why you are grateful for them.

Let them know you care

Part of the tradition of reflecting on how thankful we are to the RP partners of the past year is giving the gift of public recognition!

Write your RP partners a kudos to tell them how much you appreciate their time, their brilliance, the effort that they put into creating story hooks and plot twists and special moments. Tell your friends how much you've seen them improve and that their hard work has not gone unnoticed. Tell those who were there when you were going through a hard time what a difference it made. It doesn't have to take a long time, but it's sure to mean a lot!

Every five kudos you write this week will earn you a special winter candle accolade to display proudly on your profile, available only during FOBETEO. Unless you don't want them.

Remember, to be eligible, a kudos needs to contain a clear "why" explaining what makes your friend so special! Don't just say "He's awesome!", tell the world what makes your friend so awesome. Click here for the complete kudos guidelines.

Giving kudos anonymously will count, but may cause your accolades to arrive on a random time delay.

Showing gratitude to those we care about is absolutely important! I also am the person who cringes when I express gratitude towards others, but I've (slowly) been deviating from that line of thinking! Each night before bed, I tell someone in my life how glad I am to have them be part of it! I've been telling myself to choose a different person each night (or else I'll literally just tell my best friend and my mom... even though there are more than just those two women important to me)!
