This was a busy month here on the RPR. If you missed it, let me fill you in!- Two new moderators, Copper_Dragon and Loki, stepped up to the plate to defend the site from evildoing
- A bat signal for the forums, for rapidly summoning moderator help
- Signups for this year's holiday art exchange were opened. Signups close on November 15th, so hurry on over and get your name in the mix today!
- A Nerdiday in honor of wicked nobility and violent revolutionaries
- Two new Halloween-appropriate templates
- Work on forum optimizations reduced the lag for visiting forums inside of groups - in some cases, this was substantial, cutting whole seconds out of loading. This work is ongoing, so I'm hoping for better performance in many more areas of the forums in the coming weeks.
- There were tons of new features this month! However, they were all behind the scenes tools for moderators. In the past, we had a small user base and so few problems that it was easy for mods to keep up. Now, with thousands of people using the site on a weekly basis, it can be a strain for five people to provide all the assistance, gentle reminders, and keep track of what's-what that a large site needs.
Now they have a slew of new tools to help them seek out rule breaking, user questions that need answering, and to coordinate their efforts. With the moderators better prepared for our steadily increasing population, we look forward to keeping that lovin' feeling alive on the forums for a long time to come -- and with the time the tools are saving them, they're helping me plan more fun events for you!
And remember, don't just drop your Trick Or Treat RPs now that Halloween has come and gone. Take some time to wrap up your scenes properly, and thank your new friends for the fun.
As we move into November, I'd like to take a moment to give all of you participating in National Novel Writing Month a warm send-off. For so many of us, RP has inspired us to become writers, or writing has brought us to RP as an exercise in prose and character building. They are deeply intertwined disciplines, and we can only hope that your adventures in Novel land bring you closer to some of those characters we've come to know and love. Or causes you to introduce us to new ones!
Just like last year, NaNoWriMo participants are welcome to hold word wars in our Art & Creativity forums. We're all rooting for you!
As for myself, I look forward to wrapping up work on the new moderation powers in early November, so attention can be turned to groups, the never ending work of tuning up notifications, and our amazing holiday events.

No, it being November means I'm one step closer to the end of the semester! I will be done math FOREVER at that point (unless, Heaven forbid, I fail)
