Happy Memorial day everyone! In today's update, Professor Minotaur has been recruited to help the denizens of the RPR find more RPs.
- A Find RP search box is now available on your RPR homepage! If you do not like or need this feature, you can turn it off by going to Dashboard > Your Settings and checking "Hide the Find RP search tool on my homepage."
- Find RP search results have taken the final steps to being COMPLETELY divorced from the need for bumping. Find RP search result eligibility is now solely based on the last time the OP interacted with their topic. That means that if you edit the OP of a Looking For RP topic, it will be offered in Find RP search results for another 10 days, even if the last time that topic was replied to dictates that that topic is on page 10, or even page 100, of the Looking For RP Forum. Yes: you don't need to reply or bump at all to get a topic shown in Find RP search results again.
- So that you don't have to guess whether or not your LFRP ad is still being offered to potential players or not, at the bottom of all open Looking For RP topics, Professor Minotaur will now tell the OP whether or not their topic is still being shown in Find RP searches, and give a reminder that there is no need to bump while this is the case.
- If Professor Minotaur tells you that your topic is no longer being shown in Find RP search results, he will offer you a one-click button to renew your ad for another ten days. That's right: You don't have to reply with a bump. You don't even have to edit your topic. You just have to tap once to let Professor Minotaur - and the world - know that you're still interested in finding players for that RP, and it will continue to be offered.
- After closing a Looking For RP topic using the "close" button, Professor Minotaur will immediately offer suggestions about where/how to start the RP, and give reminders that the LFRP boards are only for advertising RPs, not conducting them. The suggestions change based on whether the topic has been marked for sexual content or not.
- A "re-open" button is now available after clicking the "close topic" button. It will remove "(closed)" from the title of the topic, and refresh the RP topic's 10 day eligibility for being included in Find RP searches.
- You can now specify your "default" preferences when it comes to RP writing and play styles. These preferences will be used when you create a topic in Looking For Roleplay. Go to Dashboard > Your Settings to choose yours.
Other updates:
- You can now choose to turn off all incoming friend requests; if you do this, you will have to be the one who sends the first friend request. In the case of two people who have turned off incoming friend requests, one of you is going to have to turn it off for a moment to initiate a friend request.
- You can now choose who gets to initiate new private message conversations with you. Your options are: Everyone, only friends, and friends plus people in your age group (over 18/under 18) Keep in mind the following:
- This only stops people from initiating conversations with you. Already started private message conversations will not be cut off.
- If someone else starts the conversation and adds someone not on your friends list or outside of your age group, you could still end up talking with those people.
- You can still vote-in new members of an existing conversation who are not in your friends list/age group.
- Again: all this does is stop people from starting a conversation with you, not from participating in an already initiated conversation.
- These settings will not prevent Kim or the moderators from initiating a conversation with you.
- If you choose the not accept messages from people outside of your age group, but make someone outside your age group your friend, that person will be able to bypass the age controls.
- I hope that this helps to decrease unwanted "spam" RP requests or other situations that some people may find uncomfortable or worrying, but you are still required to use good judgement and take care to keep yourself safe online. Contact the moderators if you ever need assistance!
Taken all together, this is a major update that touches many core components of the RPR. New bugs may have been introduced -- if you see anything not working the way you think it should, please send a bug report. There's no penalty for the thing you report turning out not to be a bug, and reporting a real bug means you can be a hero to dozens or hundreds of people who won't have to deal with the problem once it's identified and fixed. Plus, you can get a nifty accolade for your profile!

AHH! Thank you Kim for the amazing update!!!
@Lightside - that was part of this update! I'm so glad you like it!
Really happy to hear about being about to restrict PMs to other adults only.
Kim, did I mention I love you for the new PM/friend settings? If not, then I love you! I'm not sure when you added the "my age group (18- or 18+)" option to the "who can send a friend request" setting, but thank you for that too; I just now noticed that!
And I'll definitely have to give the Find RP tool a little more of a test run now that it's more intuitive to open topics!

@Kim awww that's so cute, I sure won't mind!! I feel flattered glad you think it's funny as well
@Leighton - That's really funny. Do you mind if I tweet that picture, with credit to you?
Thanks so much for your efforts and hard work, Kim
I think the option to push your LFRP topic without posting again is really really cool!
And while the updates sure are very useful, just for fun I created a little useless but still (hopefully) somehow funny picture of me typing random things in the new search bar because I felt like being silly and also felt like sharing this Click here if you feel like seeing it, haha! Cheers everyone and have a nice day

Ah, finally I know where that searchbar came from! Certainly a good change for newer people trying to find their way around.
Also professor minotaur is a surprisingly helpful beast

This sounds super awesome and useful.
The fact that you can search for active LFRP threads and users more reliably is a welcome change, and even more welcome is the fact that you can renew that ad. Like, that's something that will help keep the forums clean and concise as well. :> So happy to see such a welcome change to the site and forums.
Personally not sure how to feel about the friend and messaging stuff all around, but I'm happy that it's an option that other people must have wanted it and will use for their own personal benefit. :> It at least provides some ease of mind and comfort to those it will benefit.
