Friday RP Prompt

Posted by Kim on August 10, 2018, 9:15am

RP prompts may be complete plot ideas, a single situation, a character, a feeling, a challenge, or even a photo to use as inspiration. Start a new RP to play them out, or use them to add a twist to an existing RP. Modify them, take inspiration from them, or use them as is!

Change the weather. Instead of an "average" summer day, challenge your characters with a hurricane, dust storm, blizzard or some other unexpected weather event. -- This idea was suggested by Smithie
Do you have a suggestion for a RP prompt or plot bunny you'd like to see featured in the news? Send it to Kim -- if it's picked, you'll receive credit for the idea.

I prefer my LOTR RPs to be set in varying stages of moon/low level lighting. I have never truly considered the weather other than windy or roiling clouds so I really appreciate this tip. Thank you for helping me think in different ways. It seems so obvious but has eluded me. I can imagine how much more dimension it will add to my stories.

The sun gets hotter and hotter. Very rapidly the forests oceans rivers have all been burnt away leaving the world a vast desert. The survivors envy the dead in this vast wasteland.

@Dunedain-Ranger If you can figure out a way to make general awareness of the moon phase into a prompt that would stimulate more interaction between two or more characters, please do drop it in my inbox. ;)

A very good idea! I myself tend to use the enviroment in descriptive narration. Example:

'The blazing sun suddenly gave way to a dark thundercloud, darkening the hills they were riding among. The respite from the heat was aided by the hard rain that fell, soaking and chilling them to the bone. But it was shortlived, for the cloud swiftly passed, and they were soon sweating and uncomfortable, more miserable now than before due to the humidity of the evaporating rain.'

Likewise I use the moon phases as a way of time in RP's, but that is another prompt on another day maybe?
