Friday RP prompt

Posted by Kim on February 16, 2018, 9:45am

RP prompts may be complete plot ideas, a single situation, a character, a feeling, a challenge, or even a photo to use as inspiration. Start a new RP to play them out, or use them to add a twist to an existing RP. Modify them, take inspiration from them, or use them as is!

An NPC joins your party and attempts to get your characters to recount their deeds. They say it is for a play, but perhaps they want the information for a less heroic reason..?
Do you have a suggestion for a RP prompt or plot bunny you'd like to see featured in the news? Send it to Kim -- if it's picked, you'll receive credit for the idea.

Meet Cute Challenge

The Meet Cute scene challenge continues through next week, so if you haven't had a chance yet, make plans to create a meeting between two characters that is so unusual or memorable, it seems as if their coming together must have been fate. The results don't have to be romantic if you don't want them to be! Becoming life long enemies is also one of the available options. ;)

Exandar sat down by the fire. The campaign had gone better than he could have hoped for, even now the figureheads were going through the motions of a peace that history would remember as surrender.

Being a mage Dar was used to spending such times as this alone. When he was young he knew lonliness in these times, but now all that stood out in these quite moments were the patterns of beauty that lived, and died in the flames. So much of his life had been spent staring into the flames, and never did the patterns repeat; so unlike the empires of Man.

This night though, such thoughts were fleeting, as company was not. A figure walked out from the crowd, making her way into the small little world illuminated by the flames.

When it was clear the robed mage would not break the silence, the woman took it upon herself. "Hey, good work out there. Was that three, or four score you incinerated?"

"No score, I do not burn people." Silence followed as the women just nodded, expecting him to go on.

When he didn't, "Well what do you do? Sorry if I am bugging you, but I am always so curious about mages! Tell me about youtself?" The enthusiasm on her face was only topped by her cheerful attitude. Both clashed horridly with the blood-soaked battlefield and grim deeds of the previous hours.

"I simply help those in need. It is what we are all doing here I think." By this point the mage bore a smile like a man who found it a burdan. "What of you, what are you doing here?"

"Oh, I am a historian. I record the annals of history! Sometimes I turn them into plays. Like a bard, but more academic, less tavern-crawling. Would you tell me about yourself? From what I understand you just showed up on the battlefield a few weeks ago during the retreat."

"Oh? I did not realize my joining was noticed." The smile grew heavier, not that it ever showed. The benefit of so much clothing between them. "Why do you want to know?"

"Well yeah! You were basically the only person who did join, things were looking grim. Kind of rare for mages... Or even normal people around here. It seemed you joined a lost cause. Think that would make anyone curious of why."

"Well." The mage shifted himself, and lowered his hood. Only than did the mages stark silver eyes fall upon the too thin woman. She knew hunger as a constant friend. Her leather tunic was stained with their days work,, and beyond her chipper attitude, there was an exhaustion in her eyes that would have fit far more had she been on the losing side of this conflict.

"Imagine that everything you have ever experienced, everything you have ever known, doesn't matter. Not really, not in the big picture. Imagine if you knew this, what would you do?" Exandar paused here, letting the woman mull things over, but continued before she could respond.

"Myself, I would look for those things that do matter. I would search for them, and fight for them, and if need be, die for them. I would try and change things. Now what if I were to tell you that this war, this battle between brothers. This mattered. Might that explain things to you?"

Silence greeted the question, and kept it company for some time before she answered. "Not really? Why does it matter? How do you know nothing is important? It sounds a lot like you are making excuses for inaction in some way, and justifying what actions you do take... No offense." This last was added almost fearfully.

The mage could only laugh. "You might be right. I am not the one who could tell you. A bit too close to the source." He winked at her, and for a moment his face changed. Aged decades, grew scared. The eye that remained opened became solid gold, a false eye with an iris of pure silver. Haggered, aged, beaten. The visage was gone as quickly as it came, leaving the otherwise unmarred and charming man looking at her.

"Let us just say I can see a bigger picture than some, and act accordingly. That is why I am here." The mages silver eyes changed once more, the silvers of his irises replaced by a glowing gold.

The woman could not help but to stare into those golden rings which pulsed to a tune just beyond hearing. "Now, let me tell you about why you are here..."

[Something like that...]

If they use it for a bad reason, my character would make sure he wouldn't never again.

I read it as someone needs to pay for a debt, a cruel and personal debt.

My characters would find suspicion, but probably won't try to call them out on it. They would probably just do what they wanted, due to fear of what the NPC is going to do if they don't continue their deeds.
