We had a number of great questions this month. Here are the answers for those of you who couldn't make it to office hours, but may still be curious!Kim, I've got a question. It involves editing character connection titles! Well, for example, when I change Family in the Connections to Kin, when you connect a character to that character, it shows up as family. As in the activity feed, for example. I mean, it's still strictly connected to the "Family" branch, right? Whatever the title.
Yes, the change is cosmetic for that profile only. The rest of the site will still treat it as its original title. This was meant to limit the potential damage in a situation where someone took umbridge with a person or group of people and retitled a connection category as "sluts", or something potentially more offensive. Aside from being a dick move, it's potentially a little more socially damaging in that people know that to be in a character's connections, you have to agree to be.
I tend to spend a lot of time obsessing over how every feature might be used for evil and prevent it, whilst still trying to make it useful for the 99.9% percent of members who are awesome and deserve nice things.
Didn't you have a list of all the things you wanted to do for RPR this year, somewhere? You've been making super duper awesome progress and I'm excited to see what's next on the schedule out of the big development log.
Yes. It has evolved slightly from the one I originally posted in January (mostly it's just gotten longer, though I did move a few of the original goals for 2015 into 2016 after realizing that there were some pre-requisites that made more sense to do first.)
There are three major things left on my development list for the year: Adding organization/categorization of characters for those players who have a great many, overhauling the interfaces related to character connections, especially as it relates to making changing the type of connection easier, and overhauling the underlying code for ALL existing official character templates (as described here: http://www.rprepository.com/community/newspost.php?post=363)
Three pretty large goals, but I'm really hoping to be able to plow through it all before we ring in 2016. But first, a small diversion in the form of trick or treat the forums!
To be clear here, the rule on posting threads in the chat is a no? Or are we allowed to do that once so often?
I would say if you just pop in and leave a single message about your RP, you're probably disrupting existing conversations and it's basically just advertising spam. We typically ask people not to do that.
If you are actively participating in the chat and it comes up naturally, it's okay to link to the things that are being discussed. We're pretty much okay with you posting links to whatever is relevant, so long as it is, in fact, relevant. Interrupting people or spamming is where we take umbrage.
