This should make RPing via mobile a vastly easier experience, as there will no longer be a need to pinch, stretch and pan to navigate and read.
Actually, this update wasn't scheduled to go out for another few months! However, I felt the need to rush this update to you for one simple reason: the kudos you guys have been writing for the Festival of Being Excellent To Each Other have been heart-meltingly amazing. I know that for those of you on mobile, giving kudos was an arduous and frustrating experience. Hopefully, my mobile-bound friends will have an easier time participating in the festivities after today!
There's still a long road ahead of us to make the mobile version as pleasant to use as the desktop version in its own special way. A touch-screen experience is a completely different one, and the site wasn't originally designed with it in mind! There's much refining, tweaking and elbow-grease ahead of me -- not to mention all the hundreds of character templates that are going to need the same treatment over 2015. But I know you'll help me make it the best it can be by reporting your experiences and letting me know what would make life easier for you!
Love you guys.

Yipes, how do I turn this off?!
I'm using an older iPhone with the Safari browser, which doesn't have the option. I don't think Firefox for iPhone exists, and I decided to uninstall Chrome after it added stuff in weird places where it had no business adding stuff
So unfortunately I usually abandon sites which force a mobile version on me. Not that I'll do it to RPR, and I understand you have different priorities, but this so ruined my day

You can use the built-in "request desktop version" feature in mobile Firefox and Chrome right now to swap back. Still working on swap-back support for other browsers.

It took me a few to figure out what had happen haha love it,guys!
Thanks for making a mobile-friendly version! I'm sure I'll definitely use it when creating a character, that's nearly impossible to do with a touchscreen.
That said, for my normal RPing needs, I'm finding the new version incredibly frustrating. The text sizes are so big I can only read a tiny portion of what I'm used to and have to scroll up and down the page the whole time. Plus when I'm in public transport, everyone can now read what's on my screen
Is there any way a choice between the desktop and mobile version could be built into the site, maybe like deviantart has it (in the footer)?

The change is definitely taking some getting used to, and there are aspects of the layout I do believe could be improved... but I certainly think this is a huge step in the right direction.

Looking good!
I agree with being able to switch between because personally I don't like this new layout and I'm used to being able to see everything with one screen...
I'm really thrilled you guys are liking it so far!

This... This is simply stunning, on so many levels! Without having a laptop or computer, its been a bit of a challange with many different aspects, but this, is an amazing change that will gaurentee more effectiveness as I RP and navigate the site more! Thanks Kim!!

I just totally fangirled... LOVE IT!!!!...early Christmas YAY^.^
Okay guys, for those wanting the desktop version I threw together a temporary fix that will allow most versions of mobile firefox and chrome to successfully request the desktop version of the site.
I stand corrected! I didn't realize a different method was involved with deciding whether the client is mobile or not. I'm pleased!

Oh, well, Kim herself explained the same thing right as I was. Thanks Kim!
@ f0x, AshAngge: You're not getting the desktop version because this applies to all browsers, mobile or not. Try shrinking your RPR window down: once the window hits a certain size it'll change to the compact version. So no, it's not your phone's settings that are at fault, there's not really anything you can do about it. You guys have a good point, though, it's nice to have the option to use your preferred layout.
Anyway, Kim, I'm glad for this update! I'll definitely be using the mobile version.

Love it! A pleasant surprise for today!
The "request desktop version" button won't work, since the view is decided by the size of the viewscreen, not the name of the device type.
We may figure out some other toggle for those that prefer the pinching and scrolling version.

But using my tablet I noticed that half of the screen is a dark brown when editing characters or just responding to messages. It's kinda difficult...
