Although the start of that magical festival, the Festival of Being Excellent to Each Other had to be delayed this year as we were in the middle of an epic site transition, it's okay -- there's never a wrong time for kindness. It's that special time of year when the RP Repository celebrates the Festival of Being Excellent To Each Other. During this festival, we pause and reflect on what it is that makes RP not just meaningful, but possible -- strong friendships, vibrant communities, and the connection, respect, admiration and trust that we have for our bestest RP partners.
This week-long event reminds us to carve time out of our busy schedules - and our inboxes full of RPs - to tell the other players around us what their time, attention, creativity and compassion mean to us.
Prepare for a week of excellence!
Let them know you care
Part of the tradition of reflecting on how thankful we are to the RP partners of the past year is giving the gift of public recognition!
Write your RP Partners a kudos to tell them how much you appreciate their time, their brilliance, the effort that they put into creating story hooks and plot twists and special moments. Tell your friends how much you've seen them improve and that their hard work has not gone unnoticed. Tell those who were there when you were going through a hard time what a difference it made. It doesn't have to take a long time, but it's sure to mean a lot!
Every five kudos you write this week will earn you a special winter candle accolade to display proudly on your profile, available only during FOBETEO.
Remember, to be eligible, a kudos needs to contain a clear "why" explaining what makes your friend so special! Don't just say "He's awesome!", tell the world what makes your friend so awesome. Click here for the complete kudos guidelines.
Kudos are Different this Year!
With the transition to 2.0, there's some new features for kudos!
First, you can now give kudos anonymously. This is perfect for all of you who have been RPing as anonymous characters and wanted to give compliments to your RP partners, but didn't want to give away your player identity.
Second: To help you really pinpoint what makes someone so awesome, you can now select excellent qualities from a list when giving a kudos. Here's your current choices:
This should make it easier to explain why you're giving the kudos, and easier for everyone reading it to understand why your friend is so great. But it doesn't let you off the hook for writing your kudos for a public audience. Remember: Kudos are not guestbook comments, and they must be intelligible to someone who doesn't know either you or the recipient!
- Kind and understanding
- Helpful
- Great sense of humor
- Creative ideas
- Wonderful writer
- Drives the plot forward
- Long posts
- Concise posts
- Fast responses
- Long-term partner
