So! Two days ago strange errors started cropping up all over the site, followed by some downtime in the wee hours of yesterday that lasted into mid-morning.In a nutshell, the Server took ill on Saturday night. I started to do diagnostics, and came back with some very bizarre results that required ever more testing. A few hours in, I had a family emergency and ended up having to abandon the pursuit of Server troubles to go deal with the flesh and blood sort.
I thought the Server would be able to limp on without me in the meanwhile -- it was sneezing pretty hard, but at that time it just looked like a cold. Sadly, while I was off making sure all my loved ones still had all their limbs, the Server took a turn for the worse. Around the time of night that I was collapsing into bed still wearing all my clothes, the Server made a similar decision and wandered off to take a nap.
When I crawled out of bed in the morning, I found the Server most unwilling to wake up again. Calls were made to the on-site attendants to go and investigate Server and see why it wasn't responding to its alarm clock.
Fast forwarding to when we eventually discovered the issue: it seems that Server ran out of inode space. What is an inode, you might ask? It's how a computer remembers where stuff is in its own brain. Despite still having tons of space to store files on its hard drive, it had run out of space in its brain to know where all those files were, and so was growing more and more hesitant to have any new thoughts. And it's true -- the RP Repository stores an astonishing number of character images these days. That's a whole lot to keep track of, even for an electronic brain!
I fear this is just like our trivia-loving Server, to over-indulge in knowledge to the point of illness.
Server's brain was upgraded to help it remember where it's been squirreling away all of your images and other data, and I'm working on ways to better anticipate and prevent this sort of problem in the future.
Very sorry for all the inconvenience! It was the perfect storm of problems all at once.
Before you worry: everyone over here is fine now.
I extended all Epic Benefits by an extra three days, to make up for any lost time for anything you purchased!

I'm glad everyone is alright over there! That is the most important part
I was beginning to wonder what was causing all the mess too. xD
PS: Also didn't know "kerfuffle" was a word until now X__x
@Kim: Just saying that's an interesting way of describing the problem
Yup, that was Loki YOLOing.
Holy crap, is that Loki YOLOing?
Good to hear that everything is sorted out, both with the server and your family.
Glad your loved ones are alright, and for the server to be back up.
@TornBySanity & @Rubix - Thanks for your support and patience!
Glad to hear your family is alright Kim, they come first. Also, our silly lovely Server. From Trivia to full brain space, you never know what that guy is up to! He definitely knows how to keep you on your toes M'lady.
@Caustic -- Sincere question! What is that supposed to mean?
Glad your family is okay! And thank you for always working very hard to keep RPR going for us.
...Huh. That's one way to describe it O__o
