  • -l- OOC Guidelines -l-

We all know that we are not supposed to judge books by their covers. However, such things are commonly the norm. This being what it is whilst representing the group, or whilst in my presence a respectable appearance should be presented. failure to do so will receive a request, then followed shortly by a boot. repetitious infractions earn bans.

“Manners maketh the man” or so it is said. This being the case I do demand a particular level of manners and bearing OOC. This is not to say you should not stand up for yourself or abandon your convictions, however asinine behavior will be met with the like. Let it be known that I personally have a short temper when it comes to poor manners or low brow behavior, and am likely to handle infractions of this harshly.

Personal issues or “inflammatory” topics should be avoided in public areas, as they have a tendency to cause other issues and sow dissent. IF ANY topic is asked to be dropped in a public place (aside from sanctioned disciplinary actions) you are obliged to do so. these things should fall under common sense however in some cases warnings might be given. Should such things become problematic and spill over to a point they cause problems instigators and agitators can expect to be ejected, likely with extreme prejudice.
  • -l- IC/RP Expectations -l-

When you go into a place, as a Kinn, or representing this group there are some things to remember. Firstly, when you are going into another area/room/realm, you have NO authority over that RP or its systems. Each room, regardless the various clashing opinions or deviation from the norm, are subject to the rules which are set in theory by that rooms owner. That being said, there are of course “connected” areas, and generally most areas go by fairly well defined rules. IF you do not agree with them, leave. It is not your place to run around the world and change peoples minds on how they chose to play, lest you are asked to do so or offer input. If you stay, be well aware a rooms/realms rules as once you have agreed to play as a Kinn or RPC from this group in a place you will be expected to abide by their rules, though should the rules of a place change and you then chose to leave, so be it.

In Kinn controlled area we are known as “Zone Free”. This being because I feel zones are a form of unacceptable meta gaming in all reality, but that’s controversial to some. I’m going to take a moment to attempt to convey what I mean by zone free. First and foremost, there is nothing off limits, do as you please, so long as it is within the characters means and setting to do so. However, you cannot force any RPer to play situations they do not wish to play out. This however does not mean a situation can be denied, it does not have to be played out, but at that point the character can certainly become subject to the situation. This means if you get yourself into something and another RPC reacts in a way you don't want to deal with and refuse to play the situation out, whomever is in charge of that RP has every right to "puppet" your RPC. The person doing the puppeting should attempt to keep the RPC as true to form as possible. Everything has consequences.
Some situations played out, such as ERP, are NOT to be posted to the GP, feel free to leave some sort of reference or what have you if you must.

You are expected to play Kinn a particular way, there are a great many freedoms given, however certain behaviors are expected to be presented. There is a place the psychology is explained in the race overview (-l- Kinn of Sinn-l-). In failing to do so the person whom was responsible for you introduction is also generally held accountable to a degree, as is the person whom conducted your Kinn testing. Failure to “adhere” will be addressed most likely by me personally, though I may delegate the responsibility as I see fit. Generally refusal to adhere will result in expulsion and forfeiture of that ”Legitimate” Kinn Character.

"Mixing" is a very serious infraction here, it is a plague and I will not tolerate it. The ONLY exception to this rule is i will not ask players to engage with people they have personal issues with prior to IC actions. IF an issues between players develops during play you will amicably separate IC, tantrums will not be excused or forgiven. "Meta gaming" while just as bad has i feel more of a grey area. We do engage from time to time in planning out particular aspects of some stories. This is in all reality a kind of meta gaming, and from time to time produces less than desirable results. In the occasions where this is done those involved in the planning will address IC knowledge. IC actions which deviate from IC knowledge will be questioned, failure to explain oneself adequately in such infractions will make you guilty of meta gaming and likely be dealt with harshly
  • -l- POSTING -l-

There are plenty of things which SHOULD go without saying, so for the time being I will avoid saying what should be common sense. There are some other things, finer points if you will, that I would like to touch on though.

Firstly would be some of the finer points of posting, namely the requirements. I don’t feel that it is much to ask for a base line post requirement of three lines, roughly a paragraph. I prefer more but I'm aware and understand that not every one is capable of the monster novella and para post that I prefer and enjoy. If your posting is consistently short and often found wanting (meaning your post are crap) you will be encouraged to "grow", should you fail to do so you may find yourself removed from the RP's. There will be the occasional exceptions to the three line posts minimum, mostly I imagine in "Live RP" when RPC's are having back and forth conversations, I can not currently conceive of any reason a post would be so short in a thread based RP.
Posting time limits? No, not really, that being said though there is a stipulation. No one wants to wait upwards of an hour for a paltry post, I have seen this in the past, and been a victim of waiting long times, such as an hour only to receive a five line post… this is unacceptable. Hopefully this will not become an issue, to attempt to avoid that debacle though the stipulation to posting in live RP is as follows. Most people who make longer posts have knowledge of the "-C- & -F-" post ends, there are many variations, but the point of "continued" and "finished" are fairly obvious. IF a person is taking more then thirty minuets to make a full post that person will be expected to post what they have thus far with the infamous "-C-" for continued at the end of what they have typed at that point in time. At which point that person will go back to finishing their post, once they have finished it you simply add the "F" for finished, or "E" for end, whichever you prefer, as long as you indicate your post has been completed.
also its worth noting that there is what has apparently become a forgotten technique to "over ride" the post limits on the live chat box. It's a simple thing really. Highlight your post in whatever program you are using to compose your post. Select copy much as you would under normal circumstances. When pasting it into the IMVU chat bar DO NOT press ctrl+V, right click the chat bar and select paste. If you want to double check you just press the "end" key on your keyboard, that takes you to the end of what's in the bar.
Pausing live RP's can and will happen for any number of reasons. Generally they are then moved into a thread, which also acts as a log. Posting can continue in the thread or log so long as a coherent and agreed upon posting order is maintained by those involved in that RP session. The current players of that log/thread may also feel free to take that thread or log "Live" once more. If you find yourself "the odd man out" and are holding a log or session for more than two days, on the third day the majority of a group may chose to skip your turn, if not remove your RPC entirely from that scene by whatever means that RP group agrees upon WITHOUT that persons consent. Meaning if you are inactive, and no reason is rendered for the inactivity PRIOR to the third day you can quite possibly lose your RPC (yes they can kill it and it will count so long as the means used are legitimate)

Some RP's may be thread exclusive. People may feel free to start these as they see fit, when these are begun the author can attach any number of stipulations to the thread they start BEFORE the setting. If there are no stipulations posted prior to the setting that thread is to be considered "Free" and or "Open" and will fall under normal rules and any one can join. in those cases a posting order is still to be maintained, lest otherwise stipulated.
IF you are going to be inactive for a number of days you can use ANY method to make that known. Be it as personal as a direct text to a member of this group, or a message to someone directly that you know here…there are plenty of ways to make it known you will not be around for a few days. Your reason is irrelevant (meaning you can say something as simple as "I don’t feel like it" or you may even opt not to explain it at all as some things are personal and I respect a person's privacy), but you must make the leave of absence known. On these occasions your RPC becomes immune to "idle death" (meaning your RPC will not be killed without you consent), you will however likely be removed from all of the RP's you are currently a part of.
on RARE occasion exceptions may be made, life can be a funny thing and on occasion has ways of epically screwing people. Those exceptions will be made by ME and me only
  • -l- RECRUITMENT -l-

For recruitment into the group not much is truly required as it is not expected that all members will be Kinn. A person must be interested and capable of making posts which are at least three lines long in the beginning. It is preferable that a persons posting be more along the quantity of five lines or more, the thing which should be stressed however is the quality and relevance of the post. If the person is found initially suitable they are to be invited onto the GP. If a persons posting does not grow to at least five lines over time (let's say a month in theory, as that is a generous amount of time I feel), or the quality of the posts are found wanting that person will likely be excluded from joining larger more significant RP until their posting become satisfactory.
Members should avoid berating people whom are learning to post to our preference and standard here. When possible offer encouragement, and if you are so inclined to help them to grow the quality of their posts.
Before a person is accepted into the group officially and their RP included into the story a satisfactory bio must be posted on the GP (bios must be approved by myself, the Marshal, or Lord Marshal).
We are accepting of nearly any race, skill or ability, even things which are commonly considered OP or god mod. Things which might "disqualify" a bio include things like lack of information, or fields answered with meta gaming answers. The caveat here is that questionable things must be explained in detail and follow a line of logic which is not overly reaching. Explanations such as "because I said so", or "because magic" and the infamous "I'm not telling" are NOT acceptable answers for ANY field in a bio here.
IF a bio is refused a reason is to be given to that person and when the person is accepting help should be rendered to make a bio acceptable.
When people wish to become a Kinn the standards of recruitment change. They must have passed the standards to enter into the group (suitable posting ability and an acceptable bio). From there non canon RP should be done to establish they are able to portray a Kinn RPC acceptably. Once they have established the ability to play a Kinn RPC a "Kinn test" is administered. The test can be administered by any recognized Kinn ( a recognized Kinn is a player who has a Kinn RPC in the Kinn family tree). Before that person attains Kinn title IC RP is to take place and be recorded in the logs of their character being brought into the fold.
  • -l- Points of interest -l-

I will start by addressing the question of “what is the lore here?”. This can prove a difficult question as Kinn are extraplanar, so they exist everywhere, and at all times technically. In effect this means our lore, is all lore. There are a few caveats here as there are some things I refuse. For example I prefer to shy away from the absurd mixes of four or five different species or races, as that tends to be done in a way to circumvent a particular weakness or to pile on desirable attributes and abilities whilst ignoring the more traditional weakness and shortcomings associated with the creatures that were mixed together. That being said it does not necessarily disqualify someone's bio, so long as the reasoning's are clearly stated and believable. Generally when there is a lore clash, that is easily circumvented a number of ways, such as realms are interconnected. Dimensional gateways being what they are just because something is true or held as a fact in one place does not mean it is an infallible truth. The greatest thing to be stressed is logic and detail.
There is a bit of Kinn specific lore, the abridged version is at the very beginning of the Kinn species bio, feel free to share that bit and mention what I have written if you find yourself at a loss for words. It has been left fairly vague to offer a great deal of leeway and freedom.
Another common question is the roles we have available, most of us here realize that there are not truly any readily available roles. That is not to say that particular players could not concoct one on the spot for a new player or member. Here I stress a degree of freedom, the most common role a Kinn is likely assign decides depends heavily on that Kinn and the mood they are in, as well as their perception of the RPC they are interacting with. Generally a role that is handed out is more of a mission for the time being that suits or benefits the Kinn that gave it. As time progresses and we grow this may well change, I have “fiddled” with the concept of a few ideas in the past, things like envoys, or “seekers”, and diplomats. That being what it is I suppose in a fashion we have any and all roles open, though that does not mean they are simply available for the asking. If someone asks for something it must be “useful” and the person asking must be able fulfill the role suitably. A lot of this, if not all of it, will truly be up to a person that is recruiting. On some occasions a recruitment may well create a bit of RP between Kinn, remember we are divisive and subversive creatures IC.

In regards to “the plot” this as well is left fairly open to interpretation. The end game is what it is, HOW the conclusion is reached though is left to the machinations of the members of the group. The end game as it were is a “return to darkness”, which does not necessarily mean the death of everything as many seem to think, it does however imply a return to “evil” being a prominent ruling force, and for the dominant faith to be replaced with the faith of the kinn “Veritas”. I openly admit is is something not bloody likely to be obtained, this is intentional so that the story does not end, enabling a story that will go on and on.
  • -l- Advancing In Ranks -l-

As the question will inevitably arise “how do i get promoted” this is a small bit of info to hopefully answer these questions.

Now, there are many “open” positions available, but this does not mean that anything is simply “up for grabs”. There are a number of positions that are common some places that we may likely never have. An example of this is I cannot conceive of a reason Kinn would require butlers, or nannys, guards are also unlikely but not impossible. That being what it is as we grow we are likely to have a larger “mundane” component to our RP, as that element grows in time those RPC’s or people “in charge” of those areas may well want or wish people to fill those positions. When those opportunities arise decisions on those positions will primarily fall to the person who wishes the position filled. The main caveat there is HoS prerequisites stand (a person may add to to, but not detract or counter any standing prerequisites). If a person is recruited into the RP they MUST be able to consistently post at least a three line post (although more along the lines of a five line post is a preference.)

As far as “mundane” positions are concerned, this for the time being is highly pendant on a number of things, mostly timing. Most Kinn display an open contempt for “fleshy beings”, this will make acquiring any position difficult. It is entirely possible that some Kinn will never attempt to involve themselves in such a way with fleshy or mortal beings. You’re best bet acquiring a position while being “fleshy” is to either be a “prospect”, meaning some one, or something, which is attempting to “join us”, meaning trying to become Kinn. The other Plausible situation would be to “be of some use” to the Kinn. this is one of those “timing” situations, because it really would depend on the needs or wants of the Kinn your RPC runs across. That is to say what is “useful” to one Kinn may well not be of any concern to another Kinn, you may even find yourself in a position that puts you at odds with other Kinn, which yes, will likely make you a target. Be both aware and prepared for that situation.

Now in order to become a Kinn you must first pass the prerequisites to join the group, from there you must ask receive a Kinn test, the test may be administered by any player that plays a Kinn RPC. The testing is "somewhat" standard, as there are no specific questions, however there are specifications on the questions asked which are as follows. the test will consist of thirteen questions, there will be one question which pertains to every one of the main species of Kinn specifically ( Black blood/Nefas/shade/sinner/visser). There will be two questions on their psychology, three questions that are "speculative", meaning the questions may ask about things which are not specifically written, and or ask about why something is the way it is about the species. Also to give testers a bit of freedom in the testing they may ask three "randomized" questions, which means they can ask about anything they please so long as it relates to Kinn.

You are not expected to "ace" this test, there is a slight bit of leeway given, you can miss three questions and still pass. Once you pass this test you are then able to become a Kinn, or create one as an RPC. a person may start as a Kinn ranking no higher then Shade. Prior to entering any Kinn cannon RP you will also normally play a "test run" of sorts to be absolutely sure you can in fact portray a kinn properly, which may or may not become cannon.

When it comes to advancing in position as a Kinn there are a number of ways to go about it, but there are “three doors” of a sort you should mainly be aware of. As you start most of your advancement will come from the approval and efforts of your “Sponsor”. Your sponsor is the person that brought you into the fold, IF you happen to be lucky that might even be “The Marshal” or “Lord Marshal” possibly even “The Evencar”.

Firstly, and most likely, would be “The Marshal” this person is the one whom lords over the lower ranking Kinn. you will need to “acquire their attention” IC, at which point the finer details of what your after can be discussed OOC and RP can be formulated IC to further your goals for advancement.

IF you desire a military role you will likely need the blessings of “The Marshal” at which point your RPC will be brought to the attentions of the “Lord Marshal”, though the “Lord Martial” can reach down and pick you up from any station below its own IF you manage to get their attentions. Once you’ve spoken to the “Lord Martial” OOC you can make plans for IC actions. It falls to the “Lord Martial” to make sure you are “up to snuff” to be one of the Bellators and assigns your rank and position as they see fit.

The most unlikely would be the “Evencar”, as this position reigns primarily over the Vissers and seldom involves itself in other matters of rank, though in fact it acts as “King of Kinn”. The “Evencar” can pluck you from wherever it happens to run across you and assign you to nearly any rank within the Kinn...be they good or bad.

Something to keep in mind as you play as Kinn any of the titled ruling class( Martial,Lord Martial, Evencar), or any one that holds a rank higher than your own is capable of demoting you. This being said a degree of IC “fuckery” is to be expected from time to time, meaning you may well find yourself demoted for trivial IC reasons during game play. The ruling class of Kinn are only subject to demotions from the “Evencar”. Demotions are NOT something that is to be abused though, if your are demoted there should be some reason given to you OOC if and when you ask. There should be very few reasons you are demoted for OOC reasons, mostly an OOC reason for demotion should pertain to your posting ability, extended leaves of absence, or inability to fulfill your assigned duties (which is technically both IC and OOC). IF a person's reason for demotion is found to be metagaming or “Mixing” it will be dealt with harshly, most likely resulting in an expulsion of that player. In the least they will be stripped of their own rank and standings.

IF you think someone is abusing their rank you can bring it to my attentions and I will have a talk with that person. I caution you to be a bit weary of complaining though, if you have a legitimate complaint then by all means bring it to my attention. If you are constantly griping “just because” you will likely find yourself on the receiving end of some punitive action.

In plain english if you bring someone to my attention for abusing their rank, and they are found to be acting with their rank, station and have a good reason it is YOU who will be in trouble
  • Consent

    How does consent work?

Consent is very simple. To get consent for something it’s as easy as private messaging the player you wish to roleplay with and telling them what you intend to do to make sure they are comfortable with it. This is just making sure that you are not crossing any personal limits on the players around you and will help you seem more friendly and outgoing to the player base of the sim as a whole. The more reasonable the players think you are, the more likely you’ll get regular roleplay and avoid disputes.
    When is consent needed?
Consent is needed by rules in a few cases

    · When doing any damage to/forcing your way into a faction base

    · When entering a combat scene. These scenes might be very large and another player might make the scene take even longer.

    · When entering a rape or abuse scene. In some cases, the victim of the rape scene might have consented to the aggressor raping them with no fallback, per the aggressor’s terms. You should ask before interrupting this scene in order to keep from interrupting what would otherwise be an enjoyable RP for them. This if the very definition of “White Knighting”. The ONLY expect to this rule would be is if the scene were happening on one of the main Streets. So, to recap: Posting into an abuse or rape scene that is happening around an alley corner (even if it’s in that range of the main street) without consent is BAD. Posting into a rape or abuse scene that is happening in plain view of the street is ACCEPTABLE.

    · When doing damage to a character you should message them and make sure they’re alright with it. If you do not message them and instead only post an attempt to damage then, do not be offended if they avoid it. This is them consenting out.

    · When engaging in any roleplay with a character that might be long term. This includes but is not limited to Rape, kidnapping, memory alteration, hacking, or affecting a players mind through supernatural abilities.

When it comes to consent if you are not sure if you need it just ASK FOR IT ANYWAY. It is better to ask for consent when it is not needed than to not ask and possibly upset a player.
Why do we use the Consent Rule?

The consent rule exists because everyone has different limits. Some people are more comfortable with some types of roleplay than others. Beyond that, some players may not enjoy the type of roleplay you are wanting to do with them. It is unfair to ask a player to sit through a roleplay they might not enjoy just because you want to do it. It’s actually selfish.

Often times if you find a player does not wish to do a roleplay you want, you can try to come to an agreement with them in order to form a story. If you are a player who is thinking about consenting to be a victim for someone else under an expectation that you will be able to get revenge later you’ll want to talk about this BEFORE you roleplay out the scene where you are a victim. This prevents the story from becoming corrupted. It is poor planning to let your character become a victim without checking what type of fall back your aggressor will be open to. If your aggressor is open to little or no fall back you’ll want to limit the type of victim you play until it will be a logical in character reaction for you for the aggressor to have little or no fallback.

Example: If you or the friends of your character would want to seriously beat or harm your aggressor if he raped you but the aggressor is not open to this fall back from the rape then you would NOT want to consent to rape and instead enter into a story where something less serious happens to your character. The only exception to this would be if you are okay with the aggressor getting no fall back from the rape. In which case it is up to you as the victim to roleplay accordingly after the rape.
    Can consent be abused?

No really, no. Not if it is used right.

“This guy,” Says the inexperienced player. “He attacked my character and really hurt them and now won’t consent to any revenge!”

Well now, hold up. Did you ask the other player if they were open to consent before you let them harm your character? The way the consent rule works is the victim has all the power. This stays true in standards of revenge roleplay. Before you let yourself become a victim, you should work these terms out.
I do not consent, what do I do?

Easy. Just IM the player who is attacking you and let them know you do not consent in the most polite manner possible. Don’t worry; they won’t think you are being unfair. It’s fine to be uncomfortable with things or to not enjoy certain roleplays. It may be difficult for some but try not to be shy about this or feel bad. We don’t want you in a roleplay you won’t enjoy. If the player begins to OOCly insult you, belittle you or treat you rudely please make sure you use the Report a Player function in our forms. We take OOC harassment VERY seriously, and you can be assured an incident of it with the proof needed will be handled.

Now, if you are someone who has previously attacked or otherwise assaulted another character and now that character, their IC friends, or people they have hired are now seeking revenge on you it is fine to let them know that you do not wish to play along. I’m assuming this situation happened because you and your once-upon-a-victim did not come to an agreement on if you would consent to such BEFORE the victim roleplay happened. If you did not, it would be wise to try and be fair and allow some sort of fall back if they really want it. If you don’t want to roleplay it out you can always fade the scene to black.
What do I do if someone is ignoring consent?
If someone is attempting to force roleplay on your character that you have told them, politely, in OOC that you do not want please report the player right away. We will handle it.
    What are limits?

Limits are the personal limitations of roleplay on a player per player basis. These are something you should ask if you're going to enter any type of victim roleplay.
    Voiding
There comes a time when people run into trouble during roleplay. It happens to the best of us, as much as we try to avoid it. Perhaps someone is trying to hand out a lot of damage, or maybe using power or metagaming. Voiding is one way to deal with this, but it comes with massive fallback for you. This page is going to break down the basics of how to void a roleplay if you deem it needed.

Remember: A void is erasing an entire roleplay

Do not void a scene just because you do not like the direction it’s going

You cannot void another player’s posts

Roleplay that has gone on for more than an hour cannot be voided

A mentor must okay a void before it will be official

Remember: A void is erasing an entire roleplay

When you void a roleplay you are basically stating that any play that has happened during the time you have been posting in the scene should be erased from in character knowledge and history. This is a HUGE step and should not be taken lightly or done in a moment of anger. It’s most likely that if you do void a roleplay most of the people involved in the scene will not want to roleplay with you again. No one likes having to start over.

Do not void a scene just because you do not like the direction it’s going

This is petty. Just because the action is not going in a way you wanted or like do not mean you should just void it and leave. If you find you are no longer enjoying a scene you should post that your character is exiting, then simply walk away. This is allowed via the consent rule. No one can force you to roleplay in a scene you do not wish to be in.

Keep in mind, however, if your character is cornered or if it’s very likely that you would be otherwise stopped from leaving you should message the players involved and express that you wish to leave the scene. This way they can help you make a viable exit that does not come across rude.

You cannot void another player’s posts

There is no time, ever, that you will be able to void another player’s post. If you suspect that someone is making a post because of OOC motivations, metagaming, or power-gaming you should message those involved and very politely express that you would like to leave so they can help you do so. Once out of the sim if you feel it needed, you can use the Report A Player Form to make a complaint.

Do not tell the player you are reporting that you will be making a complaint. This would be using the forms as an OOC threat. Also realize that upon Reporting a Player we will ask you for proof of you trying to work out the scene in a polite, adult manner in IMs with the offending party. Complaints submitted with no attempt to resolve the issue maturely will be dismissed.

Roleplay that has gone on for more than one week cannot be voided

This rule exists to prevent people from voiding scenes because they do not like the direction. Again, if you find that you are not enjoying a scene, private message the players involved and state that you wish to leave to allow them to help you make a proper exit.

A mentor must okay a void before it will be official

A mentor must give the okay to all voids. This process may take time as they will most likely ask for a log of the entire scene to review and request to know the details of why you are wishing to void. Expect them to also take the time to massage the other players involved to help you work a way out of the scene that does not involve voiding. This means your roleplay could be ground to a halt for over an hour if the issue is complex enough.

If a mentor is not online, please message the players involved, tell them that you would like to leave so they can help you post out and submit a form for a Request to Void. Do not tell the other players that you will be asking to void the scene. If your void is not approved then this will just make you look silly. It will also look like you are OOCly threatening the other players if you mention this and the players involved will probably not want to play with you again.
