Virtus Overview
RACE OVERVIEW
The Virtus are a virtuous race and stand in eternal opposition to the Fallen as well as the Kinn of Sinn. As with the Kinn there are three basic species of Virtus, composed of three “Noble virtues” per caste. Truth, Fidelity, Perseverance are the virtues which the “Yetzirah” personify. The “Briah” embody hospitality, Self reliance and industriousness. And the “Assiah” represent Honor, Discipline, and Courage,.
These people are polythiestic, worshiping gods of light and mercy whom are aligned with “good nature”. Their three castes often heavily influencing both the gods they favor as well as their physical and mental attributes. Their goals are to bring about peace in the multiverse and thwart the Kinn in all of their endeavors. The virtus often receive one “gift” from each of their gods which represent one of the virtues which they personify.
Virtus are considered as a whole as a “good” and virtuous race, though on occasion there are “outliers” present within their ranks. They are somewhat castigated but their line of reasoning that “ in order to fight demons one must become a demon” is given a degree of understanding and leeway. The Virtus do most often fall under the “good” alignments, even the worst of their outliers only make it into the more “neutral” alignments. This does place them squarely into the “good” category which carries a number of notable characteristics. They have an increased effectiveness against “dark” and “evil” opponents in combat due to the bulk of their skills and abilities being centered around both “blessing” and “purifying magics. On the other end of this spectrum, though they are naturally weak against “unholy” and “profane” things, they often are able to employ a number of methods to mitigate this through various equipment and casting of various blessings and purifications.
VIRTUS CASTES
Atzilu (outliers)- this caste has no particular place, unlike the other three they have the gift of choosing three random virtues and play random roles in the areas they live. They are notably bereft of having a Merit, and are never granted positions of power or authority.
Briah (Self reliance/Hospitality/Industriousness)- This is the caste of the fabricators, skilled in construction and forging. Their gifts revolve around enchanting things which they create for the people of the nation be it lodging of some sort or the arms and armour they produce. Their Merit known as “The Deacon” rules over the lands of Pudori.
Assiah (Honor/Discipline/Courage)- The caste of the soldiers, skilled in the various forms and art of combat. Their gifts revolve around summoning and invocation soldiers and soldier like aspects to assist them and their allies in combat. The Assiah Merit, “The Prelate” rules over Misericordiam.
Yetzirah (Truth/Fidelity/Perseverance)- This caste is the ruling class, skilled in diplomacy and logistics. Their special gifts and abilities revolving around intelligence and bolstering those under their command this is a highly “support” oriented caste. Their Merit which is called “The Chaplain” rules the lands Integritate.
MERITS
Each of the three castes of the Virtus is ruled over by a “Merit” from their citadel in each countries capital. Traditionally they are the “most able”, capable and often most powerful individual from each caste and functions in much the same way as a King would. Merits are chosen by a majority vote of their caste and hold their title usually until their death, though on rare occasions situations arise where they have stepped down and surrendered the title to one more able and worthy to rule. The process is a very “diplomatic” one involving debates, after the debates have taken place the caste votes on which individual is to be the Merit of that caste.
VIRTUS CULTURE
The Virtus are a fairly diverse people, consisting of no one particular race, consisting instead of castes, which personify particular virtues. The people of the three main castes are determined to bring the realm to a time of peace by any means necessary. They have been at war with the darker denizens of the realm for time immemorial, their warring against the Kinn beginning long before recorded history. Their countries are ruled over by Merits, whom govern through a means of democracy. Each areas ruler is voted on when their previous Merit steps down or retires, at which point an election process takes place. For each caste the newly elected Merit is voted on by the people of that caste.
Their primary culture can be hard to pin down, their lands are large melting pots of customs and traditions. dictated by the people of each area, offering a wide variety between each country, its towns and cities. There are a few common threads which tie people together, stressing good nature and kindness to one another as well as worship of the gods of light and kindness.
Each particular county, though ruled over by a singular Merit from a particular caste is composed of a mixture of the castes, as well as other random citizens. The castes of an area do have a “head of caste” for each town and city to maintain a sense of order and propriety, these people voted into their position by popular vote of the town or area in which they reside.
Virtus have no specific set currency, each area having its own preferences and taste often according to how readily available the currency offered is. The most commonly found forms of currency are gold, silver, rubies, emeralds, and opals. They are also known to heavily employ a bartering system, often preferring this form of trade over currency.
