Forums » General Adventure » A Business Man Arrives; Nirvana Reserve

In the morning, a two Ponyta-pulled carriage rides up the road towards the Nirvana reserve. The hooves pound against the road, the decorated wagon wheels rolling away, as a man in a suit sat inside. His locked briefcase was sitting in his lap, a thin, wiry mustache above his lip and his short, graying hair slicked back.

Workers were attempting to repair the fence and the gate of the reserve, while one was tasked with painting the sign with a fresh coat of paint. The sign was temporarily taken down to make the task easier, five workers busy with repairs, while the other five tended to the Pokemon inside. They look on as the carriage rides up, slowing to a halt as the driver woah's the ponyta, "Hoy! Is the owner available? My passenger would like to speak with him."

The fence had been badly damaged by a stampeding herd of Bouffalant, luckily that had been the only serious property damage and the herd had been corralled back into the reserve. It was just the one of those things that could happen when dealing with wild pokemon after all.

Of course that was no consolation to the workers who now had to fix the damage, but they put up with it as they had been here for years and cared about the place.

When the carriage pulled up, all five of the workmen stopped working briefly to see what was going on. Once they were asked about the owner, a bit of snickering could be heard. "Well I believe that she's just finishing up her rounds, but her grandfather is in the visitor's center up ahead who can call her in. Your passenger has impeccable timing as even tomorrow would have been too late to catch her."

Then once the carriage had passed on through, the men went back to their work while wondering what the passenger could want with Titania.

~~~~
Titania had just finished a new caretaker's training which would be the last thing she did at the sanctuary for quite some time. After all, tomorrow she would be leaving to start her own pokemon adventure, the adventure that she had put on the back burner three years ago for the sake of the reserve. However her grandfather had told her that she had worked very hard and that now it was time for her to chase her dreams. He had assured her several times that everything would be all right without her and that he would make sure things would run smoothly in her absence.
The sixteen year old looked down at her Obereon, her constant companion since her parents death and stroked the shiny Slyveon's head. "It's going to be strange leaving the reserve huh Obereon?" The Slyveon responded by wrapping his lower right feeler around her wrist and saying. "Veon!"
It was at that moment that the radio on her belt buzzed and she received a message from her grandfather Lance Acacia. Looks like she needed to make her way to the visitor center.
(Fyi, right now she is dressed in a work shirt and jeans since she was working. She will been in her avatar clothes later. Also Obereon has a different then normal shiny coloration that can be seen on her pokemon page.)
The driver made a quirk of his face, dipping his head in response, "We was unaware of a change of the reigns. But thanks. Mwah!" He snapped at the ponyta, who stirred and snorted, pulling the carriage past the workers. Strolling along, it eventually slows to a stop as the driver woahs. Sitting back and sticking a pipe into his mouth, the driver knocked on the side of the carriage. The door opened and Mr. Grey Suit stepped out with his briefcase beside him.
Stepping into the visitor's center, Mr. Grey takes a look about as if he was judging something. The last thing he looked at was old man Lance, and in his eyes he saw him as an obstacle that should move itself along. As Titania entered, Mr. Grey had remained standing and offered his hand to shake, "You must be the owner of this reserve. You may call me Mr. Grey." A short pause before he continued, "I'm here today to grant you an offer to sell the Nirvana Reserve. With this financial decline that we've been in, it's only wise to get out ahead while you can."
The visitor center had a country feel to it with the decorations and furniture. The walls had several posters detailing information on some of the Pokemon that lived on the reserve and viewing tips. Also for the visitors benefit were benches, snack machines, complimentary cold water as well as information of safaris and their prices. There was even a children's corner stuffed with pokemon books and plushies. There were also some rentals of hiking gear as well as maps to the areas reserved for camping and swimming. One thing of note was a large sign that reminded people that it was illegal to catch Pokemon on the reserve.
Mr. Grey Suit had arrived first to the visitor second and she would arrive only a few minutes later with Obereon right beside her. It only took a single for her to decide that she didn't like this man, but she politely shook his hand anyway since she needed to be professional.
She would grow angry at his offer to sell Virvana reserve, but managed to keep a polite neutral expression on her face with great effort. "I'm afraid I don't have even the slightest interest in selling Nirvana reserve. Now if tat is the only thing you wanted, then I'll have to ask you to excuse me as I have a lot of work I need to do. Please feel free to rest and have some water as it is a hot day today."
Her tone was polite, but extremely firm. Titania then fetched one of the water bowls meant for their pokemon guests and filled it with cool water for Obereon who drank from it happily as she waited to see if the business man was done with her.
Mr. Grey Suit stared at the younger trainer with such a piercing, yet neutral stare. He didn't smile, nor was his face distasteful towards her or the decor of the room. His handshake was firm and swift, his focus never on the act but rather on Titania's eyes. Settling his hands on the briefcase he held, the man gave a firm nod, "If that is your answer, I will accept that you have no intentions of selling it. However, I find it unwise to start your travels without this large boon in your wallet."
Offering a very short and business-like bow of his head, "But only time will tell if you made the better decision today. Good day." Mr. Grey Suit turned about and left the building without passing by the offered water. He closed the door behind him and returned to his carriage, "Take me to the ferry. My business here is done." The driver wiped at his forehead with his cap and gave a grunt, "You got it." The business man climbed into the carriage and it turned slowly, soon rolling out of the reserve's grounds and down the road.
Titania said goodbye and watched the business man leave. Now while it was true that the money would have been very useful on her journey, the reserve was her life, family legacy and her home. To abandon it for simple money was truly the unwise choice in her mind and one she had no intention of making.
"I'll be in my room Grandfather making final preparations for tomorrow. Let's go Obereon."
She headed out of the visitor center and got in the jeep. She wasn't going to be able to drive it all the way back to the house as the jeep was used for reserve work, but she could drive it to the ranger station between the visitor center and the house.
Actually rangers was the one area in which the reserve was doing phenomenal in. After her parents death in the Team Rocket attack, she had reached out to both the scientific community and the pokemon league. After all, the reserve boasted one of the largest herds of Kangaskhan and was an important breeding area or several pods of Lapras. Pokemon researchers often visited to study the two species in the wild so she had used that to appeal to the scientific community pointing out that if they didn't help to protect them, then they wouldn't be able to study them. As for the pokemon league, she pointed out that if they wanted to continue seeing the species at the pokemon league, then wild populations had to be protected so they could reproduce. As a result some of the best rangers were moved to Nirvana to help attract and train aspiring rangers. Of course the chance to work with two highly endangered species was a huge bonus for several of them.
As a result of this success, there had been fewer poaching attempts in recent years, but they had to remain vigilant, any sign of weakness would be an open invitation for another attack like the one that claimed the lives of her parents. However on the bright side, there were plans in the works to start taking a very limited amount of eggs from the Kangshkan herds. While most of the eggs were destined to be used for starting new herds in other protected areas, a few would become trainer pokemon. They would serve as prizes for an invitation only tournament which would serve to both raise money for the conservation of the species, raise awareness as well as give some very experienced trainers the chance to obtain one. There was also a plan to do the same with the Lapras populations, but that was for even further in the future.
She soon arrived at the ranger station and dropped off the jeep. She would have to walk the rest of the way. Titania fetched Lagi's pokeball and let out the charmander to walk with them. The teen had only recently obtained the fire type and thus was careful about when she let it out. After all a fire type pokemon could do a lot of damage if it misbehaved. However now was a fine time to spend time with him and let him get some exercise as she could keep a proper eye on him. She believed that her pokemon journey would be a great way to help them develop a strong bond.
Now it would still be a half hour walk to her house, maybe if if she was lucky she would find some berry plants on the way. After all there were several medicinal types of berries that would be very useful for a pokemon journey.
0-10, Other. 11-50 Berries, 51-100 No Berries
The berry bushes just off the path looked inviting, but unfortunately most of the ripe berries had already been consumed by the roaming Pokemon. Finding their taste delicious, but only wanting to eat so many, the other berries left had small nibbles on them or were sprawled along the ground beneath the bushes, flattened by passing Pokemon.
Titania had been hoping for a bit more luck on the berry front, but that was ok, maybe she'd be lucky some other time. She soon arrived at her fenced off home, entered the gate and recalled Lagi. She then headed inside with Oberon and headed to her room. She had done most of her packing already, but wanted to do a last minute check as she intended to be on her way first thing in the morning.
Oberon would help her gather up a few small things she had missed and then the girl would set out the clothes she intended to wear tomorrow. It was a larger, but perfect replica of the outfit her mother had sewed for her on her 13th birthday. It was mostly black dress with a purple ribbon across the waist, with several purple and gold tassels. As the skirt was quite short, she would wear a pair of black short shorts underneath. She would also wear black knee high socks and black shoes with a white bow as well as a fake purple gem in the center. She then went into the kitchen and got some pokemon food out in bowls for both of her pokemon. After letting Lagi out again to eat, she prepared dinner for herself.
Once the three of them had eaten, she would recall Lagi and locked the door. She intended to go to bed early tonight so she would have an early start in the morning. Titania would change into a simple night gown and get into bed with Oberon following immediately behind her. Then hugging Oberon close, she would close her eyes and go to sleep.
~~~The Next Day~~~

Titania was in the jeep with her grandpa as he insisted on driving her to Nirvana's gate. Both her pokemon and herself had eaten a large breakfast which was to tide them over to dinner. In her absence, her grandfather would be looking after both the reserve and the house. As for her normal salary from the reserve, she had arranged for most of it to be used on the reserve. She would however keep enough to keep the house bills paid and for a savings account to be used to put towards the care of her future pokemon when she returned.

Once they arrived at the gate, Titania and Oberon would get out of the jeep. Then they would say their farewells to her grandfather before setting off. Titania would let out Lagi to get some exercise and started to walk. She was now off the reserve grounds so any pokemon she saw would be 100% legal to catch. So she kept her eyes peeled for any wild pokemon as well as any edible foodstuffs like berries and mushrooms.

(I suck at describing clothes so please look at the gallery page in Titania's profile to see her outfit.)
The ground between the reserve and Whalerdrake was mostly flat land, unless one walked into the neighboring woods. However, a few bushes near the edge of the woods seemed to be bearing fruit. It's berries were ripe and plentiful. They were red with a green stripe near the stem and none of them seem to be bitten into or riddled with worms. There were roughly 8 of them altogether on the bush.

Titania gathered up the berries and studied them to see if they had valuable properties or if they would be simply food for later tonight. In either case, she would stash them for later and head into the woods. She hoped that she would have more luck finding wild pokemon here then on the flat land.

She held onto one of Oberon's ribbon like feelers and kept Lagi slightly to the front of her so she could keep an eye on hi,. It would be easy to get lost in the woods so she wanted to make sure her pokemon stayed very close to ensure they didn't get seperated. Luckily she had a compass so she wouldn't have to worry about going in circles.

(Did I ever tell you what edges I gave her? Well I know right now that she would have a high pokemon education rank as I was planning to give her that from the get go. Anyway let me know if I forgot to give you those so I can fix that.)
Travelling deeper into the woods with the berries in tow, Titania came across a recent forest bed. Most of the area was shielded by light trees, the area well insulated by the tall grass. In one of the beds, a wild Weedle stirred and prepared its horn upon taking notice of Titania. The bug Pokemon waved its small stinger threatening.

Titania wasn't very pleased when the berries turned out to be Redsturm, but maybe when she reached a city or something she would find someone who could show her how to make something useful out of them.

Then not too long after she entered the forest, she managed to find a wild Weedle in a bed of tall grass. While it was a wild pokemon, she only had a limited supply of pokeballs and decided that she would rather save them for something else. However this could be a good chance to train Lagi her charmander a little.

She ordered him in front of her and prepared to battle.

(Would asking Lagi to use Ember potentially start a forest fire? I don't know how realistic we are going to be.)

(Edit: well I'm probably not going first. XD)

{Lagi could be given more complex orders with the command skill, such as to not wildly burn the area around the weedle. If he's not a recently caught Pokemon, it would be an easier command.}

The weedle pulls back and springs forth, pushing off of the grass floor to attempt to poke Lagi with its head-stinger. But the poor Pokemon misjudged her attack and ended up bumping herself against Lagi's chest harmlessly.

Titania was pleased to see that the weedle had failed to damage Lagi with it's stinger and quickly ordered him to counterattack. "Lagi use your Ember attack on Weedle, but don't hit the grass!"

Titania wanted Lagi to win the battle, but she didn't want to damage the environment in the process. After all, growing up on a pokemon reserve meant that she understood just how precious the natural world was.

(Not sure what the burn chance roll would be, so I just copied your 1d100.)

The weedle's soft belly was exposed to Lagi's attack, the well placed ember melting through her defenses. Squirming about, before fainting, the weedle went limp in the grass beneath her. The distant flock of Pidgeys and Tailows took flight from the forest line and the other sounds of the forest seemed to dim. A strange sound called out, drawn out for a while in a deep, guttural sound.

Titania was happy to see that Lagi had managed to win the battle, but quickly became concerned by the strange sound she heard. Even so, she would take the time to cover the knocked out Weedle with grass to protect it from predators. After all, she was the reason it had been knocked out, so she could at least hide it while it recovered.

She would then walk in the direction opposite from that strange sound while praising Lagi for his performance at the same time. The young trainer would then go back to looking for wild pokemon once she felt she had walked about half a mile from the battle site.

Trekking over fallen logs and through the tall grass, the trees became steadily thicker. The light that shone through the canopy dimmed, but the sounds of many Pokémon was growing. The tall grass parted to a large, old oak with twisting branches that must have been as thick as Titania herself. A Mankey was settled in the tree, angrily throwing fruit below, the berries splatting across the ground floor and along the roots of the tree.

Below, a group of colorful Flabebes swayed back and forth, collecting the berry pieces and eating them. A few Tailows pruned their feathers, sitting along the branches of the tree, and a Zigzagoon or two were sneaking pieces of fallen fruit and eating them away from the group of fairy Pokémon.

As she walked with her two pokemon, she fetched her compass making sure to take a glance every now and then to help her avoid becoming lost. She soon came across an ancient oak that had a Mankey angrily throwing berries down below. Also in the trees were Tailows preening their feathers

On the ground were the Flabebes and the Zigzagoons eating the fruit that making was throwing to the ground. Out of all these pokemon, it was the Mankey and the Tailow that caught her attention. However she quickly ruled out trying for the Mankey as it would likely be too great a handful for a novice like herself. So that left the Tailow.

Noting the distance been the Tailows and herself, she decided that this was a job for Oberon. "Obereon, use Fairy Wind on the right most Tailow."

The Mankey ceased his throwing of the fruit and snapped his eyes to the human. With one small fist, he beat against his chest and started to climb down the massive tree. Meanwhile, the Tailows were busy singing to each other, until one of them was buffeted in the face. Most of the Tailows took flight and fled over the treeline, but one Tailow, probably the target's mate, became upset as well. Both birds flew downward to peck at Oberon.

But in their enraged state, their beaks only bit at the air around Oberon's ears, their small talons causing very minor scratches. But the first Tailow seemed uninjured from Oberon's attack, their energy focused on causing harm.
