"Hey, Chris, this is a really good time for a pokeball. This Totodile is looking really weak, any more and he likely is going to be knocked out cold."

She was too far away, any further in the fight and it would be useless to attempt catching the Totodile.

Furrowing his brow he grabbed his duty belt and pulled an empty pokeball from a pocket. "Not exactly the best at this, but here we go!" He tossed the orb of red and white towards the heavily injured Pokemon.

Chris returned to the main site and sat down, her hands cupping water to splash over her face and to soak her hair. Whipping it behind her, she looked up and smiled, "That was a nice swim." The Totodile was pooped though, and settled on the beach on his belly. She looked over, "Aha, seems this little tyke is ready for a nap." That was one she remembered Phoenix saying something about Pokeballs. She hmm'd low in her throat and dug in her hoody for a Pokeball. Clicking the middle button, she bent her wrist forward, "Boop." and the Totodile vanished into the ball.

It shook for a little bit, before it settled. Chris put her sandals back on and walked through the river to the other side, "Hey, Phoenix!" Upon reaching him, she held out her Pokeball with the recently tired Totodile, "I'll trade you Totodiles, huh?" She had this smile on her face..
"Hmm, not entirely sure that is a fair trade." He grinned as he picked up the pokeball before him. "I'll take it. I need a Pokemon that is real good at putting out fires."

Phoenix reached down and grabbed his red jacket before rummaging around in one of the pockets on its chest and pulling out a sticker. "A gal gave this to me back some time ago, apparently when you put them on the pokeball they release a special effect." He stuck the small heart shaped sticker on the pokeball and extended it towards Chris. "I was never going to use it, though you might like it."
Chris rolled her eyes, "I guess a bucket is less adorable." But she swapped the Pokeballs and eyed the sticker. Lifting her brow, she plucked the sticker from Phoenix's hand and gave an incredilous look, "A sticker does all that? This is the first I've heard of stuff like that." Kitty was busily swimming in the river, now that the competition has been dealt with. He stops near the two as they talk and Chris motions him closer, "Kitty, Kitty come here. We'll see if you get magical powers through this sticker, huh?" Kitty, however, just stuck his head up and spouted water onto the sandy beach and continued swimming.

Chris laughed to herself, "Seems he doesn't like it. I'll put it on my Totodile ball." Pressing her thumb into the Pokeball, she smooths it out. Then, after standing around in what was left of the sunlight before clouds passed overhead, she shimmyed into her pants and tossed her hoody back on, placing her Pokeball in with her other one, in her pants' front pocket.
"Yeah, I got bored one afternoon and a young lady convinced me to join a contest as her partner. No clue how those things work, our show was supposed to have a romantic theme." Phoenix shrugged, "I wore this ridiculous outfit, but we did win."

He finished dressing and clipped his duty belt back on. "Strange girl, had this little green pokemon that would suck in foul odors, some grass type? It was really small. Oh, it had flowers on it, but I don't remember its name, it was however number four hundred and ninety two in the dex."

Phoenix flipped open his multi-purpose device which had a built in Pokedex modified to the purposes a Ranger would need it for. "Ah, there it is!" He flipped it around so Chris could see it, "A Shaymin, that strange little thing." Looking at the screen he pressed it, "Keeping one requires some special permits, being how rare they are and what they do for the environment. The only Rangers qualified to obtain one of those are the fellas who respond to disasters. Cleaning up smoke, smog, and other harmful things in the air."

Phoenix could not help but hope to one day obtain one, it would be awhile before he was qualified for that however, he also could not seem to remember the name of the girl he had met, which was odd because he had checked her permits and everything - to have seen her name so many times it was odd he could not think of it now.

"Eh, I will remember it eventually." He shrugged.
Titania was would struggle to hold back her sobs as she watched the Rufflet's talons dig even deeper into her beloved Oberon. Why didn't he return when she told him to?! That was so reckless of him and now all she could do was hope that he would be ok with proper medical attention.

However she couldn't run, doing so would be a waste of Oberon's sacrifice. She had to keep trying, but she was going to have to change her battle strategy. Reaching for Lagi's pokeball, she would call him out. "Lagi use growl." She needed to reduce the rufflet's attack power and hopefully reduce the rufflet's fighting spirit.

However this time, she would choose to protect Lagi, putting herself in harm's way. She had to keep Charmander safe in order to weaken the eaglet pokemon. So watching the Rufflet, she would get ready to defend herself.

Chris tugged at her hoody’s pouch, looking up at Chris when it was squared-off, “I have no idea about contests, but that’s good that you won.” Kitty hopped out of the water and shook himself off, sitting beside Chris as she leaned in to look at the strange Pokemon. Shaking her head, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Of course, she also pulled out her older Pokedex and was scrolling down the numbers (once she got it working). The scrolling stopped, but she tried to scroll down anyway, “Huh, mine doesn’t go to the four-hundreds.”

Shrugging, she stuffed it back into her side pocket and threaded her fingers through her hair, bringing her hoody back up just after, “Probably. Most things come back to you when you walk too, so you’ll probably remember. That swim was just what I needed though.” Slipping her sandals back on, “Alright! Let’s go and find us a mountain!”

Just when it seemed that they have gotten lost again, Chris busts out of the forestline and steps onto a pathway, with a sign directly ahead of her. She stops for a moment to pull out twigs from her sandals before she approaches it. Turning around, probably as Phoenix exits the woods, "Hey, look at this! I did it." She thumbs at the sign, which has a few labels like You are Here and Diamond Shelter Road and The Diamond Shelter.

Titania would manage to fend off the rufflet's sharp talons, while also keeping it from attacking Lagi. She had three balls left and had managed to reduce it's ability to fight. However she really wanted to further improve the odds of a successful catch. Her Charmander did know the move Smokescreen, but Rufflets would have the ability Keen Eye which would make the move useless.

So her best bet was to see if she could figure out what ability this Rufflet had and maybe hope that Lagi could further reduce the eaglet pokemon's attacking power.

With that in mind, she would try to study it while defending Lagi and herself.. While doing so she would also tell Lagi to growl again, preferring the chance of a stronger growl, then the chance of a completely useless smokescreen.

However she had to try catching it again, this pokemon had badly hurt Oberon and was fully capable of doing the same to Lagi. So she would go for a pokeball using one arm while using the other to shield her face. Then she would toss the ball at the unnatural pokemon and desperately hope that it wouldn't be able to break out this time.

Titania would watch the pokeball intently desperately hoping to hear the click that signified a pokemon caught. Then when that blessed sound was heard, she would sigh in pure and utter relief. Then looking down at Lagi who was clinging to her leg. She would kneel and hugs Lagi close to try and comfort him. "Lagi you did a really good job and I'm proud of you. I would love to give you more attention, but Oberon was really hurt and I have to get him healed. I promise to give you the praise and attention you deserve once he's treated."

She would then recall the charmander back to his ball and then walk over to pick up the Rufflet's ball. Maybe Nurse Joy would be able to give her some answers about what was going on him. However her first priority was getting Oberon treated.

With Rufflet's ball secure, she would start to sprint back the way she came, desperate to get back to the Pokemon Center and to get her beloved Sylveon the medical attention he badly needed.

(Don't know if I need any dice rolls, let me know if I do.)
Titania would relax a little upon seeing the friendly face of Nurse Joy and would quickly hand her two pokeballs. "My Sylveon is badly hurt and the Rufflet isn't that much better off. On top of that something is...wrong with the rufflet as well. I only just caught him and he was in the possession of Team Rocket beforehand so I have no idea what they could have done to him." She would point to each ball when talking about the pokemon inside so Nurse Joy would know who was in what ball.

Then having given all the information she could, she would take a seat and release Lagi before putting him onto her lap. She would then hug the Charmander and stroke his back as she did her best to wait patiently. The teen so badly hoped that Oberon would be ok and also that Nurse Joy would have some answers regarding her new Rufflet.
"Almost there!" Phoenix cracked his knuckles before unbuttoning the holster on his belt that revealed a collapsible baton which he flicked out with one swing of the wrist.

"Hades take point. They start reaching for their Pokemon or any weapons be sure they don't succeed in doing so." His heart raced as they proceeded towards the mine. They had been taught every in and out of a raid during the academy, but typical procedure was to move in with local law enforcement, and there was no time to wait and see if they even showed up.

"Chris," Phoenix stopped but did not turn to her and kept his eyes in the direction of their objective, "it is pretty possible if not likely one of these guys may be armed, and I very well may be on the losing end of all this. If that happens you flee the scene and escape to safety." Hades turned to look at both of them, his body still facing forward. "We signed up for this, right, Hades?" He rubbed his partner's head for what very well could be the last time depending on how events unfolded.

"One promise, he'll need a good home." Phoenix took a pokeball off his belt and tossed it to Chris. With that he nodded his head to Hades and continued on up towards the mine. Just outside of it he would stop and see if any back up was even being sent let alone close to arriving.

Roll for back up?

Chris eyed the baton, “Woah, that’s snazzy. Wish I had a fishing pole that did the same, sometimes, you know?” Smiling to herself, she busied herself with walking along the path to the cave entrance. She wasn’t in a rush, and Hades went ahead of her easily, with a “Right!”. Chris looked over, as did Kitty, and she shook his shoulder some, “You don’t need to worry about me, I kick bad guy butt all the time. I’ll help you out though, if they prove too much for you.” Chris caught the Pokeball and looked at it, then looked up at Phoenix, “I’m not exactly great with other types of Pokemon, just so you know…but, okay. But just in case, because I’m not keeping him if you get a lump on the head.”

That was when they stealthily approached the cave entrance. Chris waited on one side, her back against the wall. It was a large entrance and it was very dark inside. Chris squinted her eyes, but shook her head, whispering, “I can’t see a thing.” She glanced towards Phoenix after a while, whispering, “What are we waiting for?” It was at that moment that Phoenix recalled that he didn’t see any stations in Whalerdrake, and that this path that they took led from here to Whalerdrake. If his call had been well received, they would have to enter from their side or fly over the mountain to his side..
Titania would continue to stroke Lagi's back and talk to him as she did so. "You did a very good job Lagi, I wouldn't have been able to catch that poor Rufflet without you. Thanks to you maybe we can find out what's wrong with wrong with him and help him get better. Maybe one day you may even be friends with him. Of course that is if he chooses to stay after all this."

Soon after that, Nurse joy would come back with her pokemon and she would be elated to hear that her pokemon were all right. She would then gently set Lagi down and then take the pokeballs. "Thanks so much Nurse Joy!"

Then kneeling on the floor, she would release Oberon and immediately hug him when the second she could. "I'm so glad your ok Oberon. I was so worried about you. However we did it, you and lagi made it so I could catch the Rufflet." She would then pull Lagi in for a group hug.

Then after a minute or two she would say. "I love you both, but now I have to do something alone. However I promise to let you both out as soon as it is done. " Titania would then recall both of her pokemon and then look at Rufflet's ball. She couldn't just keep the eaglet pokemon in a ball forever after all, she had to try working with him after all. However that didn't mean that she couldn't take precautions.

So the teen would stand up and after thanking Nurse Joy again, would leave the center. Then she would head back to the forest so she would be away from other people. She would then get out a small portable bowl and fill it with pokemon food. Then stepping about ten feet away from the ball, she would hold out Rufflet's ball. Carefully aiming the ball so that the Rufflet would materialize next to the bowl, she would call him out.

Once he appeared, she would offer him a warm smile and say. "Hi Rufflet, are you hungry?" She hoped that keeping her distance while offering him food would be a good way to start her interactions with her newest teammate.

(Btw I'm hoping to soon have Titania make her way back to Chris and Phoenix.)
Looking at the screen disappointedly Phoenix saw that if any help was going to arrive it would be well too far out to at this time make any difference. With the knowledge of an uphill battle, metaphorically and physically due to the incline that led up to the mine entrance, the ranger could not help but think that it was such a beautiful day to end up underground, either by six feet or thirty should this arrest go as planned.

His calm more quiet tone would give way to a deep authoritative shout that was more a roar than a call, "Reddel Rangers, come out with your hands where I can see them!" His badge was lifted up over the rock putting its golden glare in clear view without putting him in harm's way immediately to do so. Since Hades was hidden behind the rock with him and already out of his pokeball he could deal with any wiseguys who came their way with gunfire, that was always one good thing about having a lighter faster partner - he could outrun most people and their reflexes.
Chris was staring into the darkness, her fist clenching as she shook it, "Yeah, whoever is in there, you better come out! We'll kick your butt if you don't!" Of course, the mountain was rather large...Nobody answered Phoenix's challenge and after a little while of waiting, Chris peeks in again, "What if they're lifting their arms up in the dark and we just can't see them? Or they're tied up or something?" She shrugs, "If I had a bunch of bad guys around, I'd tie them up, or...beat them up and then tie them up."

Kitty walked into the darkness, half in and half out, before Chris pulled at his tail to draw him slowly back to her, "Not yet, not yet."
Phoenix started coming out from behind the rock slowly. He placed his badge back onto his jacket and replaced it quickly with his taser. "Here, turn this on and flash it in there as I go in." The ranger tossed his companion a flashlight. "Something seems off about this, so be ready for a battle."

Now at the mouth of the cave he made sure his voice would echo, "Reddel Rangers! Come out with your hands up and drop whatever is in them, I am armed." The taser was in his right hand while the baton was in his left and held in such a manner that his wrist was used to steady the taser. Provided no bullets came his way he had the upper hand in a fight, if it turned into a gunfight however he was by far at the disadvantage.
Titania would watch as Rufflet quite viciously eat all of the offered food. Such behavior was hardly a comforting sight, tho perhaps it might mean that the Rufflet was at least willing to tolerate her presence while he ate?

However that small hope was quickly dashed when the Rufflet screeched at her and started approaching her threateningly. It apeared that the more likely explanation was that the eaglet pokemon simply hadn't noticed her out of hunger.

However while someone else might just give up and recall the pokemon, Titania wasn't ready to give up yet. Thinking quickly, she would side step in order to grab a stick off the ground. She would then throw the stick into the air as hard as she could. Then she would try to redirect the Rufflet's aggression onto the branch by commanding him to attack it with peck.

She hoped that by offering an airborne target, the pokemon would be more inclined to attack it instead of her as well as hopefully release a little of that pent up aggression.

Chris caught the flashlight and turned it over, and over again, "Sure thing." Eventually, she locates the button and presses it, startling herself with the sudden light. Clearing her throat, she waves the flashlight around, "This is great! I wish I had one of these."

The flashlight revealed many large passageways in the shape of tunnels. Each tunnel was man-made and large enough for mining carts to be pushed. The two tunnels immediately to the left and to the right were short, as Chris walked into them, illuminated a cart and a tunnel down, and then walked back to the mouth, "I don't think anyone's around here." That was until a flock of zubats erupted from one of the tunnels, the left tunnel from the center, and Chris had to cover herself with her hoody, laughing, "Ah! Bats!" Kitty melted into a puddle around her sandals.

Titania was very pleased to see the Rufflet choose to attack the stick as she had commanded. She then watched as the Rufflet landed and then looked at her as if he was waiting for another order.

"Good job Rufflet!" She would sweetly praise him before looking for something else that he could attack. She would then spot a half broken branch on a nearby tree. The branch looked like it could one day break completely and when it did it could hurt someone if landed on them when it did. It would serve as a perfect target for Rufflet and knocking it down now could prevent a future injury for someone else. "Rufflet, use wing attack on that branch and knock it off."

If the eaglet pokemon listened to her once again, she would praise him again and retrieve some pokemon treats, one of every flavor like she had for Zephyr. However she didn't want to push her luck, by approaching him so she would show him the treats and then toss them towards him This way he could choose which ones he wanted to eat and she could still tell which one he seemed to like best.
Titania would watch the Rufflet gobble up all the treats with a happy expression on her face, but would also notice that his wings were getting a little bit dirty. She could see the malice in the eaglet pokemonn's eye, but also saw how calm he was being. So she decided to give him a little trust. She would fetch her pokedex and look at the map while keeping one eye on Rufflet.

She was looking for a river in the forest and would quickly find one. Then noting what direction it was in, she would put the dex away and then say to Rufflet. "Let's go for a walk Rufflet. As long as you stay in my sight and remain calm, you can remain out of your pokeball. I bet you would enjoy the exercise after all."

Titania was offering the pokemon a bit of freedom as long as he behaved. She was banking on the fact that the eaglet had been caged up so long that it would be inclined to agree to her offer, but she kept his pokeball on hand just in case.

Then while watching him, she would start to walk and see what Rufflet would do.
