It was another foggy day along the muggy shoreline of Whalerdrake, a young man had just finished jogging. An abandoned shack of grey and black wood was his temporary home and it stood in the background, near Gruum Cavern. In the distance, on the foggy water, a fishing boat with a few old men with their fishing poles in the water. They talked the shop but mostly complained about how the local reserve had plundered the fair town (which was absolutely un-true).

A local lad ran to the beach, waving at the old man "Misters, misters! Someone's been shot!" The old men yelled back, "What?! They're opening a shop?" After much more yelling, the old men finally rowed back to shore and stepped out of the boat with their rubber boots and dirty, yellow raincoats, "Aye, what's this all about lad?" The boy answered, "Someone was shot and taken to the Pokemon center!" The men shake their head, "Them foolish youngins.."
"Someone's been shot..." Joseph repeated to himself. "How interesting." He looked to his mankey, standing beside him. "Guess we're doing something today." They went ahead to the Pokémon Center, wondering what could have possibly happened to cause this.

"Maybe the guy was a thief?" he asked. His mankey let out a snort, for no. It was a system of communication that they created to better understand each other. A snort was, of course, no, a clap meant yes, a foot stop for something being urgent...

"Maybe he was messing with the guy?" Another snort. They guessed like this until they got to the Center.
The Pokecenter was rundown, its windows barricaded up slightly due to nasty weather. Inside, Nurse Joy, who looked really bedraggled, was tossing bloodied gloves in to the trash. She looks up, appearing tired with sagging eyelids, "Oh, are you a friend of the young man? He's stable, but, I don't know when he'll wake up." Another trainer, a young lady with a hoodie and sandals, was petting a Vaporeon at her feet. She shook her head, "I don't know why he ran in tried to fight all of them.."

Chris glanced towards the new trainer, offering a wave, "Hey. Are you.. a Ranger too?" Kitty, the Vaporeon, moved to inspect the new trainer, sitting on his hind legs as he shifted his head to the right and left.
Joseph shook his head. "I just live in the area and heard what happened," he admitted, shrugging. "I got curious. It's not like I really had anything to do, anyway, so I figured I'd check it out." He looked down at Kitty, smiling. "Well, hi there!" His attitude towards Chris and Kitty seemed very different. Towards Chris he was monotone, indifferent. Towards Kitty, his voice was sweet, and he seemed happy to see him. He turned his attention back to Chris. "So, what even happened?"

Saitama the mankey was keeping a close eye on Kitty. He was near her trainer, and she didn't like that.
[Woops, typo! Chris wasn't shot!]

Chris nodded to herself, "Makes sense." She became curious quite often. Crossing her arms behind her head, she closed her eyes and looked up at the light of the partially clean Pokemon center. Kitty meowed in response, got up, walked in a circle, and then laid on his side. Chris opened her eyes and shook her head again, "We were staking out the mountain area for some crooks and he got all heated up about something. Next thing I know, he charged into the darkness and got shot before I could find him."

Chris sighed, "So I carried him all the way back here. It was such a mess.." Nurse Joy checked on her computer, "Hmm...it seems he'll be sleeping for some time. I'm really sorry." Chris smiled wearily, "It's fine. Thank you for looking after him."
The doors to the Poke center slid open and Titania walked in, giving her weary Pokemon, in their Pokeballs, to Nurse Joy, ""I was trying to bond with and train the rufflet, but he got knocked out by a lucky blow. I thought I was making baby steps with him too until that happened."

Nurse Joy was running the Poke balls through her machine, pushing a few buttons on her console, ""At least you're safe. I'm running low on medical supplies.." Chris stood up and Kitty walked behind her, "Hey! I..I'm really sorry. Your friend got shot and he's in a coma.." Bearer of bad news! Chris shook her head and slumped with her hands in her pocket, "It all happened so fast and he charged in, and there were people with guns and.." She trailed off, not sure what else to add, except, "I carried him back as quickly as I could."

Joseph was free to leave at any point of this, but he could also stay around for some soap opera action!
There was a beep from an incoming call on Titania's pokedex, from Phoenix, "Hey! Hope you're alright. We just cleared the Diamond Shelter, but I have another mission. I won't be around for awhile." After they talked a bit, Phoenix had to hang up because the Rangers were moving out in response to a wild fire.

Nurse Joy slid a clipboard over the counter, speaking to Titania, unaware of her call, "You can check his vitals here. I've done all that I can for him." On the sheet, the name read "George Sweedle, Ranger." He had much lighter hair and a mole on his nose, but his height and weight was similar to Phoenix's, as was his age.
Frowning at the news that the Pokemon Center was running low on Medical supplies, she would ask. "Is there anyone who might be able to spare some supplies to help get you through to your next shipment? I would be happy to look into that for you if you can provide a few names. Maybe even pick them up for you so you wouldn't have to leave the center."

It was then that Chris came running in with the news that Chris had been shot and was in a coma. She looked completely crushed at the news which was like an echo of the news she had received three years ago. Just like before with her parents, someone she had cared about had hurt by horrible people while trying to protect pokemon. Albeit unlike her parents, he hadn't been killed, but if he never woke from his coma, then was it really any better from being dead.

As if sensing her distress, suddenly a bright light would burst out of her bag to materialize into Oberon. The Sylveon would rub his head on Titania's leg before looking up at her. "Syl?" The eeveelution would ask with a concerned note in his voice. The teen would then move a hand to stroke Oberon's head and it was then that her pokedex rang. Picking up the pokedex would reveal an incoming call from...Phoenix?!

Answering the call as quickly as she could, she would be heartened to know that her acquaintance was perfectly fine, though he had another mission. She would put him on speaker so that Chris could hear him for herself and then would end the call with an expression of pure relief evident on her face.

Then nurse Joy would come carrying the chart for a different ranger who superficially resembled Phoenix. "Thank you Joy, but this isn't my friend as I just got a call from him. I don't know who this ranger is, but I don't hope that he manages to recover from his coma."

She would then walk over to sit in a nearby chair and spend a few minutes calming herself down.
[Typos are their own story!]

Nurse Joy thought a moment and pointed a finger upward, "Marblewell has the closest Pokemon Center. It's through the Diamond Shelter." Smiling with tired eyes, "If you could get there, they would gladly prepare supplies. My sister, Nurse Joy, is who you would want to talk to. I would be very grateful if you picked them up for me."

Chris lifted her brows and stood from her seat to listen in to the call. As Titania sat down, she checked the clipboard and laughed, "Woops! But they look so alike...ah well, I'm glad he's okay for now anyway." Chris leaned on the counter as Nurse Joy went back to check on her patient, "Hey...if you need any help carrying those supplies back, I could help with that."
Titania stood up and nodded at Nurse Joy. "Then I will head to Marblewell and do my best to get those supplies for you."

Then directing her attention at Chris, she would nod and say. "They do resembled each other quite a bit and I imagine that it was quite dark. Between that and the chaos going all around you, I can see how you could have made that mistake. Mistake or not however, it was still a good deed and maybe one day this man might regain consciousness."

She would then heads toward the door before turning back and saying. "Another set of hands would be quite welcome as two people can carry far more then just one." She would then walk out and head towards Diamond Shelter.
Chris smiled like a child being praised, "It was, wasn't it." Looking back towards the general area where she had left the man "I hope so." Chris looked down at Kitty as Kitty looked up, "Alright. I'm ready to go when you are." Walking after Titania and shoving her hands into her pants, Chris talked and pointed out the path to the Diamond Shelter.

The path was free of Pokemon and the two trainers made their way to the cave's entrance. Chris looked inside, but it was all very dark, "I don't have any way to see in there. But it shouldn't take that long to get through!" Giving Titania a thumbs-up, Chris began the journey of getting through.

The two were making good time, even though Chris was fumbling around and following the wall for the most part. Around the third bend, there was another set of footsteps that kept up with the two. When Chris stopped, they stopped shortly after. As Chris began walking again, they started up.

Titania would walk with Chris as they made good time despite Chris's fumbles. As for Titania she would hold Oberon's upper left ribbon in her hand as she walked. She wondered how long the cave was and hoped that they wouldn't get lost.

The young teen also thought about the rufflet tucked away in it's pokeball and hoped that perhaps the Joy of Marblewell Pokemon Center might be able to identify his peculiar ailment. Hmm it was unlikely, but maybe Chris might know something.

"Hey Chris, have you ever heard of a disease that makes pokemon really vicious and their attacks unusually strong?"

As she waited for an answer, she and Oberon would try to keep a look out in case of other travelers or attacks from wild pokemon.

Chris stopped for a moment and considered Titania's question, "Hmm.." Her expression was hidden by the darkness and she finally answered, "Only once. Some people were talking about strange colors and violent Pokemon. I wasn't paying too much attention to them at the time..."

Oberon noticed someone following them and tugged his ribbon along Titania's hand. Then Titania heard the extra footsteps and there was a slight stumble. The person seemed a little far away and having difficulty keeping up. There was a heavy wheezing that soon quieted down. Silence filled the darkness for a long while, before Chris was slowly moving again.
Titania's interest was piqued at Chris's words as they sounded like they could be relevant towards the issue her Rufflet had. "So where did you hear about that? Those strange colors and violent pokemon." She would ask.

It was then that Oberon tugged at her head which made her turn around. The teen then heard the extra footsteps and the sound of a slight stumble. She would then whisper to Chris. "Someone is behind us."

Now it was probably just another trainer heading to Marblewell as well, but she didn't like the fact that she couldn't see them, especially since they were behind her. So Titania would call out. "Whose there?"
{Sorry! I have moved to a new place and didn't have internet between doing so.}

Chris took a moment to sit against the rock, only her nose illuminated by her worn-down light in her Pokedex, "Let's see...it was around here. The volcano people in these funny looking coats. They have this huuuge building up there and a really clean pool." She tapped the screen, "Come on, come on! Don't freeze up on me.."

Looking up and tucking her Pokedex back into her hoody, "There is?" Trying to squint in the darkness is a vain activity. The wheezing stopped for a moment and a small, but possibly very heavy-weighted man answered, "I'm Beritto, hiker extraordinaire! I'm was having some trouble breathing; sorry about not announcing myself earlier."
To say that Chris's words had Titania intrigued would be a massive understatement. Yet she would try her best to remain calm and would ask. "Do you think you could take me there after we finish the errand for the pokemon center?" In truth she wanted to go now, but she had promised to help the center which truly needed said help so that would just have to come first.

Shortly after that she would call out to the person behind them who would call himself Beritto and apologize for not speaking up sooner. "I see, well at least you spoke up when asked. It's just in this darkness one can never be too careful." She would say and then visibly relax a bit. She had been a bit tense considering the events she had been in so far. After all it had been quite the day day with both really good and really bad things.
Chris's voice answered from the darkness, "Sure I can! It's...just across the sea, but I know where it is. The ferry hasn't been showing up...I've been stuck over here for some time now." Beritto let out a hearty laugh, "Oh ho ho! You've been looking for the ferry master? Why, that's me, Berrito!" His laugh echoed off of the walls and Chris makes an exasperated sound, "Really?!"

It took several hours to navigate the mountain pass, as the trio passed many corridors with glowing, raw moonstone shafts and their empty minecarts. When they finally made it to the other side, it was very dark and the moon was up above them. Beritto was heavily bearded and had a big, unlit pipe tucked into his thinly stretched shirt and coat. An old fisherman's cap was stuck on his head and his cheeks were very rosy.

Sitting down, he lit his pipe, "Shure am glad you lasses came along. Been shtuck in that mountain for far too long. I'll hop to the shtore and buy a lamp." Looking up at the skies, he pulls his pipe out and smiles, "And for helping me, the great Beritto, I'll take you to my ferry and get you across, no problem!"

Titania listened as Chris explained that while she knew how to take her there, the problem was that the ferry they would need hadn't been showing up. However before Titania could curse this stroke of bad luck, Beritto would suddenly start laughing before explaining that he was the ferry master. It would seem that her luck was looking up after all.

The three of them would then travel for several hours through the old mine before finally finding the exit. It was here under the moonlight that Beritto would make them a generous offer.

However as much as she wanted to take the man up on his offer, she wouldn't forget about her promise to help the the Whalerdrake pokemon center. "As much as I want to take you up on your generous offer, I just can't right now. I promise the nurse Joy of the Whalerdrake pokemon center that I would retrieve much needed supplies from the Marblewell pokemon center. So I have to do that before I can cross the sea."
Beritto made himself comfortable on his makeshift seat, "If that's your decision, I'll be here once I get back from the store. Good luck to you." With a satisfied smile, he rocked on the flat rock, puffing away. Chris waved at him and turned, walking the path to Marblewell. From the higher elevation and the downward slope, Titania could see sprawling farms and fences, with several Pokemon moving about in the valley.

The city-in-the-making welcomed the two with a large, handmade sign that read "Marblewell". The buildings were lined along either side of the main road and the Pokemon center wasn't too far away. A ranger's office was also right across the center, where several people dressed in Team Rocket gang colors were being arrested in a line outside the office. A ranger waved towards the other two, but was busy speaking into his walky-talky, "What's the eta of the police?" Nodding a bit, "I read you. Phoenix out."
