The town of Whalerdrake was in disrepair. The roads were dirt, the shop had its window partially boarded, and the Pokemon center's windows were dirty as well. But its light was on, and that's what mattered. The town folk were gossiping as usual and a fog settled over the water. The fishermen were still out there in their tiny boats, trying to make a living.

"It's those foreigners." One older lady was talking to a small group of locals, "They ruin everything." The town still blamed outside sources for its misfortune. Then Sara came by and the ladies stared at her. She wasn't from around here. The small group stared at her for some time.

Finally, someone answered her, "It's past the forest." They pointed to the mountain that rose over the treeline. There wasn't exactly a road out towards it, however.
The Pokemon center was a bit run down, with the bright paint fading. The chairs inside were a bit ripped along the cushion, but still functional. There was a lot of dirt spread throughout the floor, but a weary voice answered Sara, "Just a moment."

A very tired looking Nurse Joy stepped out of the back room's door. She had her hair in a net and tossed her gloves into a nearby bin, filled with gloves. She strode to the counter, yawning a bit, "What can I help you with?"
The weary nurse busily cleaned her hands onto a rag, "I can help your Pokemon." She set the rag near her console, mulling over the young trainer's words. She rested her hands on the counter, taking a side-glance towards her console, "Why does this keep happening to me.."

She holds up her hands, "Just, slow down, please." Trying to put it all together, Nurse Joy worked on healing Sara's pokemon first. Then she handed them back to her, "The mountain is up north. You can't miss it, unless it's dark out. Or your in the woods. So be careful."

Leaning a hand against her hip, "As for helping out around here, there's been a report about an injured Pokemon somewhere in the woods. One of the Poke-rangers reported it this morning, but got called away on other business." She sighs, "If you could find it and bring it here, I'll give you some supplies." Because she's all out of money, and vouchers.

But she likely hasn't left this Pokecenter in a long time and doesn't know much about the Diamond Shelter.
Nurse Joy holds up a finger and pulls a drawer out. Flipping through the different papers with an occasional lick of her finger, she finally draws out a report file with a picture of a feline Pokemon. She slides it across the counter top, "A Purrloin. They usually travel in packs in the woods at night and there may be more nearby if you find it alone."

Smiling, but yawning and fanning her hand in front of her mouth as she did so, "Thanks again. I'll be open all night, so don't worry about when you bring it in."

Nurse Joy Knows--Nurse Joy has no idea

The forest was fairly thick, with trees close to each other. Strange Pokemon calls echoed throughout the walk, as the nocturnal Pokemon began to awaken. There were several felled trees, laying on their sides. Sara was probably the only person in these woods right now and only the subtle crunching of twigs and the bristling of wind through the plant life answered her.

Her flashlight eventually shined its light on a more square structure. There was a small hut hidden behind several tall trees. But the area around it was clean of debris and somewhat flat. From the makeshift window, there was a light.

(Acrobatics roll if Sara wishes to approach the house).

As Sara walked forward, she managed to step over a tripwire that was connected between two nearby trees. But this may have been more luck than not. Unfortunately, a hidden net and the leaves covering it springs up. The net pulls Sara upwards, confining her.

The shack's door creaks open and a man wearing a black ninja outfit peaks out. With more gusto, he pushes the door to the side quite easily, "Who walks among the chopped trees loudly?" His voice was a bit gruff, closing the door behind him.

Strangely enough, the man was bulky and might have been wearing red and black flannel and jeans under his outfit. He waved his hands in slow movements, "Waah, hyah!" He karate chopped a nearby piece of wood on a chopping stump, splitting it in half.
The ninja-clad man steps out of his house, "That is an unusual response. You don't sound like one of them." He closes the cabin door behind him, taking a moment to check the surroundings. He strode out and crossed his burly arms, "I'm surprised you found me. You may become a great ninja yet." As an after thought, "Have you seen my son? I sent him to town and he hasn't returned."

Of course, he kneeled down and loosened the rope of the trap, allowing Sara to tumble downward in a bundle of ropes. The man allowed Sara to rid herself of the trap and he stood up, "What is your name, young one? And what are you doing out here at night? Practicing your ninja skills?"
The dark clad man gave a few nods, "I see. Don't worry about him. This too is ninja training." He crouched low and scooped up the earth, rubbing it between his fingers. He mulled it over, "An injured Pokemon? That does sound bad." He stood up and grabbed one of his Pokeballs, "Here, I can't leave this place but your heart seems to be in the right place. I will help you."

He clicked the button with his thumb and sent out a Growlith with a ninja mask on his head, "Shadowfoot will lead you through the forest. Follow him and I'm certain you'll find your Pokemon." The Growlith barked twice, then sat down, wagging his tail.
The ship slowly moved to dock at Whalerdrake and the old captain stomped down to the lower decks. He carried a lantern, because it was almost foggy near Whalerdrake's shore. He knocked on the cargo door, to give the young trainer a warning of his entrance. Pushing the door open, he stuck his grizzled head then the rest of his old frame followed suit.

Crouching low to the sleeping trainer, hidden between a few shipment crates, "Wake up miss. This is yer stop." He left the room after the trainer showed signs of waking and lowered the walking plank to the dock. Descending, he was greeted by two darkly clothed males who were asking all sorts of questions. The three had a chat on the beach, but the old man didn't seem to balk under the pressure, kept answering their questions incompletely to waste their time.
Shadowfoot led Sara through the woods, stopping to sniff the ground. He would point his nose towards a particular section of the woods and then lead the trainer along. Sometimes, he stopped and growled into the dark woods, and the scurrying sound of retreating Pokemon could be heard.

In time, Shadowfoot led Sara to the largest tree in the woods. Normally, there would be an abundance of Pokemon gathered around the massive, fruit bearing tree. But at its base was a curled up form. The trickling of blood was more prevalent here, creating a clear trail of it from the woodline to the tree.

The Purrloin was still breathing, licking at its paw.

Even the smallest amount of kindness in Sara's voice was enough to convince the weak Purrloin. The Pokemon limped towards Sara and then collapsed about halfway there. They laid in a curled up ball of fluff and hurt, mewing weakly. They wouldn't quite object to being picked up, unless Sara touched her paw on accident.
Shadowfoot barked twice, then sniffed at the ground. Pointing to the south with his nose, he soon trotted off into the woods. As Sara followed shortly behind, the forest grew very quiet. Shadowfoot seemed to growl and there other sounds of retreating Pokemon. They bounded into the woods, their sounds growing faint as they left.

In time, Shadowfoot and Sara return to the town of Whalerdrake. The Pokemon center was still open, but there weren't any people outside of their houses at this hour. The weak light of the Pokecenter shined through the boarded windows.

Nurse Joy was underneath a pile of paperwork and stirred when Sara entered the center. She snorts awake and lifts her head, which causes the papers to slide off to the side, "I'm here." Yawning, she reaches for the Purrloin, "Give them to me. I'll take care of them." If Sara gave the Purrloin over, Nurse Joy would curl them in her arms and walk into the back of the room. After 15 minutes, she returns from the room.

"They're stable. Thank you so much." She yawns again and pulls out a voucher, "I don't have much. But please, take this voucher. It's good for 500 yen at any shopping mart." Shadowfoot must have left a while ago, barking once, and vanishing in a puff of smokescreen.
Nurse Joy glanced to the girl, hmming in her throat as she thought it over, "Normally, there are not. But we do have a few spare cots for those who get caught out in the bad weather." Smiling a bit, "You may sleep in one, free of charge. Especially after helping me out." She motioned with her hand to follow her and Nurse Joy took out a folded, green cot. Spreading it over the floor and securing its metal legs, she stood up and pressed her hands into her back, "I'll go fetch some warm blankets."

She went into the laundry room and came out a few moments later with two blankets and a small pillow, "It's not much, but here." She spread the blankets out onto the bed and tucked the pillow in between them. There weren't any other set up beds in the back room and clutters of boxes stacked everywhere.

The night passes by and morning comes along with a fresh new fog over Whalerdrake. It was the first hour of a brand new day! Nurse Joy was passed out in her chair, arms crossed over her computer's keyboard.

There was a noticeable path that jutted out from behind the trees. It led from the northwest side of town. It looked a little overgrown, as bushes moved in to claim what was rarely walked along. There were a few townspeople up at this hour, but most quietly chatted to themselves. The old sailors were already out on the foggy waters, fishing on their small boats.

The forest was fairly dense. Without the discovered path, it would likely take her much longer to navigate through the thicket. Judging from the location of the mountains in the distance, this was likely the path towards them. There was also a really large tree off in the distance, as the early morning fog only covered the water and over half the town, but didn't quite reach the forest just yet.

But as she began her travels, Sara noticed a strange Pokemon sitting in the middle of the pathway. It was licking its pink paws, with its large ears and small red ball in the middle of its head. As the Pokemon noticed Sara, it stopped cleaning itself and stood on its four legs, growling towards the trainer. It had such blue eyes, with small white irises.

The Espeon glanced towards the Pokemon and its trainer as the Pokedex read out, "Espeon, the Sun Pokémon. Espeon are able to read air currents, allowing it to predict the future, as well as its opponents' next moves." Speaking of which, the Espeon moves forward and hunches its shoulders low, letting out a growl from its throat.

Harlow's attack stage has dropped by 1! Harlow's current attack power is 9.

The Espeon recoiled from the claws and rolled along the path a bit. Getting up, Espeon's hairs stood upright and the dirt of the path ripples upward towards Sara's Pokemon. The small metal bud hunkered down, but the dirt flew into his eyes. The Espeon turns and high tails it away! Its small paws carry it off the forest path and into the woods.

The path was clear, but the Espeon had fled. Harlow gains 7 experience!

The Espeon's trail wasn't quite hidden, but Sara continued on. The trail slowly ascended upwards with the steepness increasing. Eventually the path opened up into a small hill that led to a large, mountainous entrance. There was a sign outside, next to the dirt path, that read "Diamond Shelter". At this morning hour, there were several miners that were working near the entrance.

They were affixing lights above the cave entrance, standing on ladders, and some were seated and eating breakfast. The entrance was open enough. The wiring and drilling and talking was much nosier than the quiet woods, but it wasn't unpleasantly loud.
The miners looked up from their sandwiches, waving at the young trainer, "Hello there!" Then they considered her question, one rubbing at his mustache, "We're just finishing up setting lights on the main section. If you went below or above it, it'd be dark." The other one started up, "But with Team Rocket gone, we'll be able to light up all the levels in no time."

One of the workers climbed down from his ladder and wiped sweat off his brow, "Whoo. That should be that." He flipped the lever on the generator and it whirred to life. A sign came to life in a gentle white light, reading "Diamond Shelter". The other miner looked Sara up and down, "If you want to go poking around the other areas, we have rentable lanterns at 50 yen. Just leave it by the entrance when you leave. But that's not a daily charge, it's a once per entrance. So make it count."
The miners look between themselves, sharing glances of thought, "We mostly stick to the main floor. Can't say many have even looked. I reckon you'd be the first little lady." The other miner scratched at his scruffy chin, "There was a scientist in the mine long before Team Rocket showed up. He was probably looking for something as well."

He shrugged, "We're not mining it right now, as the mayor just wants it opened and secure before we work. I'd say you're free to look around, but we can't be holding your hand. So be careful in there." The third miner hands Sara a lantern and points to a small valve, "Here's where you turn it. This way is on, this way is off." The lantern was fairly sturdy, likely made of the same material that they mined here. It was a little heavy too, but didn't look like it would break if she dropped it on accident.
