The area of the city outside of its protective walls, but still considered within its jurisdiction.
The Stables + Caravan Grounds
Location - Western and Eastern Gates
Thornmouth's stables are situated just outside the city gates on each side. These larger than normal facilities provide around the clock care for the animals boarded there, the stable hands here experienced with unusual mounts and serving a variety of beasts, including those that can fly. They charge fees based on mount classification starting at daily costs, but including discounts for weekly to monthly boarding being paid up front.
There are caravan grounds situated outside the eastern and western gates as well, where they are significantly larger and clearer on the eastern side. The camps here are numerous, diverse, and busy enough to form almost a small village outside the eastern gate, mercantile representation dominated primarily by humans, beastfolk, and dwarves. There is also a significant number of centaur that can typically be found here.
The western caravan grounds are housed in a smaller clearing that could be considered part of the Forest District, surrounded by encroaching vegetation and camps showcasing a much more laid back vibe. It is watched over by the western gate and Faewatch barracks. While mundane merchants rule the caravan on the opposing side, here the primary representatives are fae, elves, and other more magically inclined individuals from the west.
The Forest District
District - Western Outskirts
A decent number of the city populace do not live in the city proper, but outside its safety in the neighboring region of the forest directly west. It's technically a district of the city and under its jurisdiction, but one on the outskirts that functions as its own town. These people play an important role in constantly fighting back the persistent growth of the forest (which seems to want to grow across the central region now that the thorns are gone).
Faewatch Barracks
Landmark - Western Outskirts
The Faewatch are an elite guard that watch the forest and the moon gate (Gate of Aetheros) to ensure the safety of Thornmouth's citizens. They ensure the seelie from the fae kingdom don't cause problems or overstep their bounds. They often clash harmlessly with the fae Court Guard at the border, but both factions have a similar job. The barracks sit protectively behind the forest housing district, ready to defend it's more exposed citizens at a moments notice. The patrols this elite faction of the guard perform are day and night.
The Farmlands
District - Northern Outskirts
Sunset Sanctum
Landmark - Northern Outskirts
In the transitional area between farmland and wastes north of Thornmouth, one can find a sanctum built from the remains of an old castle tower spiraling deep into the earth, an inn of sorts for supernaturals troubled by problems beyond their control. It is a place where the ‘afflicted’ such as vampires and therianthrope can surrender themselves during bad nights for voluntary lockdown.
Riftwalker Manufactory
Factory - Southeastern Outskirts
In the Southeast on the other side of the walls, nearest to the slums and docks, the Manufactory is an unremarkable looking two story brick building and serves as an outpost of Thornmouth's nascent industry. It manufactures primarily paper, and paper products, including a recently successful printing and publishing annex. While a plume of coal smoke is nearly always emitting from the broad chimney of the building, the most objectionable odors are frequently those of rancid eggs, rotten cabbage, and dead fish. A large portion of its output is purchased by the Steeplestone Academy, the rest finding itself distributed to general stores, or private clients. An employer of the destitute and desperate, it nonetheless suffers from a very high turnover rate.
