FAE
The Custodians of the Wilds

The large majority of fae live out lives immersed in magic as custodian spirits to the great wilds of the west. They will do anything to prevent the mundane races from crossing over the sundering into the wilds, to where they sacrificed defense of the isthmus in the hopes of using human politics as a means to prevent further war.

This is leading to social and culture shifts as many fae have left the wilds to experience Thornmouth, these individuals and trade between nations bringing with them both influence and temptation. The elves in particular are enamored with the arts, fashions, and forms of entertainment coming out of the young isthmus nation - they trade the most out of all the fae, even after the marriage of Eilwen and Galen.

The fae of the western regions are a diverse group of several major subcultures. While the wilds are primarily ruled over by the Seelie and Unseelie courts, the elves rule the regions to the northeast and the wilds are filled with unaligned fae who reject the idea of living in civilization. While a faerie's court will often predict a fae's alignment, there are always those who do not fit to type, such as benevolent unseelie and malevolent seelie. These individuals tend to have to find their own way, either on their own in the wilds, or as a part of other civilizations. A number can be found in both the elven kingdom and the lands of Thornmouth.

A fae of the courts tends to be tall, narrow, and lithe - beautiful humanoids with slender features and ears longer than that of the elves. Yet a wild fae appear to be hybrid of all shapes and sizes, while elves are distinctly draconic and overall less alien than their courtly counterparts. It seems their magic plays a part in dictating their appearance, which can change in a wide variety of ways - behavior and experiences altering color, form, and size.

Wild fae are far less humanoid than those of the courts or elven kind, tending to be much more fantastic as hybrids in appearance and representing a wide variety of creatures, plants, and things.

The elves have been permanently changed and 'standardized' as a species, more mortal than spirit through their dealings with dragons.

All fae (save elves) are able to exist in a small form more typically associated with fairies and also in full sized forms. Some communities only exist in one form or another out of personal choice, but fae cities tend to cater for both sizes.

Notes:

Those of the courts tend to shun elves, seeing them as outcasts who are even more arrogant than they (in their eyes) - the elves put too much pride on having been the second race following the dragons, and they now exploit nature more than they shepherd it, showing too much interest in advancing and in turn expanding their civilization.

Half Fae - It is notable that fae carry the ability to breed with nearly any other humanoid race (not unlike dragons). A "half-fae" can refer to a hybrid of any of the fae races and it is often hard to distinguish of which type they even are. These people often find themselves not fully fitting into either magical OR mundane society. A seelie or unseelie may find themselves drawn to the fae wilds, but they won't be welcomed without difficult trials to prove they are worthy.
SEELIE
descriptor

Ruled by King Castien and Queen Faraine

The seelie are considered to be more aligned with 'good' and light than their unseelie counterparts. They are prone to mischief and pranks, but are far more noble and restrained than other faeries. The seelie court consists of those that are far more tolerant than most, kind enough to warn those who don't understand their customs that they have offended or been unintentionally rude (rather than immediately punishing the culprit). That being said, they do still have a heightened sense of pride enough to violently avenge intended insults or come across as arrogant. They are associated with greens, golds, unicorns and other light-aligned creatures.

UNSEELIE
descriptor

Ruled by King Mordun (Moor-doon)

The Unseelie are considered the 'darker' of the faeries and are more commonly aligned with 'evil'. They are considered vengeful and insults are harshly punished whether they were intended or not.

Unseelie are known for being involved in the Wild Hunt, in which many humans wandering the wilds were/are rumored to be killed. They're known for tricking and assaulting travelers for their own personal agenda or simply their own amusement. They can often manipulate lesser minds with silver tongues or magic. Occasionally unseelie take to a respectful mundane being, such as a human, and may try to keep them as a pet in their household - but they are also known for more cruelly kidnapping humans and using them as slaves.

Unseelie are known for creating abominations, creatures born of unseelie magic. These creatures will always return to the unseelie lands and linger on their borders or within, feeling a constant draw. Sadly this constant draw applies to half-unseelie offspring as well who may not be as welcome.

WILD FAE
descriptor

Wild Fae are neither seelie or unseelie, but some members may have once been. They are often neutrally aligned and are a law unto themselves, showcasing a wide variety of forms dependent on their nature. They very much enjoy pranking and harassing fae and mundie alike, and can sometimes be aggressive to get what they want. Their behavior can be considered playful and puckish most of the time, but like any fae are best dealt with carefully. Many are solitary, though there are some communities in the trees where they live, often in small fairy form.
