She grabbed hold of the reins and steeled herself. "Wish I'd say I know how it is...but it's just been horses. A lot of horses. We'll see how it goes!"
The rolling of the raptor's hips and the rudder-bobs and waves of that tail was an altogether different feeling from any walks, trots, or runs of her horses. But she adjusted incredibly quickly and thanked whatever gods felt like looking down upon Anexus today that she'd chosen the trousers over the skirts! As they were led, she'd continued to stroke the feathers and little mandarin pet-whispers to the raptor as they'd walked; Landi wouldn't know of course, but they were nice sounds all the same!
If there was any concern about her being led off like this, she didn't show it at all, and kept chatting up Bjorn between animal-talkng to the raptor. "Oh there's plenty to explore, even just in the city - never mind the wilds! As long as you don't upset the fae or catch the eye of any unseelie while you're out there. And stay far from the Ingress." The last bit was slightly recitative - as if she'd been told time and again to stay far from the Ingress herself and only barely accepted it under duress.
Rook — 11/15/2020
"I figured, so this will feel weird! Amusingly enough, I've never ridden a horse. We had a camel once, but he couldn't handle the ship life, so we found someone to take him." Not dry enough, not like Guildereim, even if that island was more humid than dry. Landi followed along at a casual gait, but kept an eye on both Richa and people that they might pass by. Thankfully the latter kept a wide enough berth from the creature.
"We leave them alone, but I'd rather not risk them hurting Landi. My mother would have so many heads!" And she'd scorch the land they lived on, which was no good for anyone. "The Ingress?" Bjorn asked, looking up at her. "So! What do you do, Miss Enrica? What part of the city do you live in?"
Rigby — 11/15/2020
"A camel!" There was a snort then. "Poor thing, I have seen those!" From some of the same lands from where her father had found Rosa!
"Talk to any human here and they'll probably warn you away from the forests and the fae in them. The river divides things up further, and the unseelie live on that side. Back when the fae tried to take the human cities, a small logging town up north was wiped out." Aiolfi had fought and flourished and died, as they did. "Ages ago. The forest grew back in all places...except there. It's never come back to the Ingress.
"I want to know why." The last sentiment was stubborn and did more bluntly hint to this as someting she'd been over before. And possibly a small believe that she could change it.
...and then she finally came clean. "In the city proper, all my life. Palazzo di Aiolfi." Whoops.
Rook — 11/15/2020
"It was pretty great, managed to handle the raptors easily enough." It could bite back, if need be, and they tended to avoid bothering the creature. "You have? Here? Huh! I guess everything comes around this area?"
Not really a surprise, if so many races came and went.
As she explained the forests and the Ingress, he nodded along. "How do you plan to find out?" It was obvious that was the plan, and he was quite intrigued. Adventures were hard to find when you didn't go out until recently!
"Palazzo di Aiolfi. Look at you, mingling with the common folk!" Bjorn teased, pausing near one of the gazebos and he'd climb onto the fence to sit there instead of a seat. Landi leaned forward, resting her head on his lap.
Rigby — 11/15/2020
"There's a lot of coming and going. Depends on if you're using portals or if you know where the gates end up. There's one awful gate that connects to the old-world's oceans, be sure to avoid that one." Thankfully not Kasuria's oceans! "If you ever want to see some shipwrecks in the middle of the mountains, I can show you where they come down. Used to head out there with my brothers all the time."
She'd confessed and he'd called her out right back! "I mingle!" It was insistent! "...a little. Had to do a lot more mingling lately. Just not...at that bar." And then backtracked a little, amending. "I'm working on mingling!"
"We never went out a lot growing up, but he and his men did. Jobs, treasure-hunts, exploration. It's how he found Rosa and brought her back. It's how he met our mother. They'd both come back with stories about the lands they'd been to and the people and creatures they'd found there." Stories of good dragons, even...
"That's what I want to do. Find a few to explore it, see what we can find. And whether it can be fixed or brought back to life."
Rook — 11/15/2020
"Oh, I don't think I'll be going through any portals anytime soon. I like it here, and since it's so big, there's plenty to explore here first." The rest of the world could wait, he had time! "I'd like to see that. Think we'd be able to get there on our respective mounts?" A horse and a raptor, seemed an unlikely combination, but atleast one could keep threats away from the other.
"I think you're doing a great job so far." Bjorn pointed out, running his fingers over Landi's feathery crest and in response, the raptor moved to sit down. "That sounds great! My mother used to do that with a group, I'm sure she'll pick it up again eventually. Kind of in our blood, but without the conquering lands thing here." That wouldn't go so well!
"You'll have to count me in, too."
Rigby — 11/15/2020
"Worst thing we've got to look out for up there is if any ships come down, but there's plenty of warning, I've heard. And it's rare enough...I've never actually seen it happen."
On their respective mounts: "Aurelia's done the foothills once and she'd had more than enough of it. Florizel's my brother's, he'll probably be better, he's made the trip a few times. Won't race'em though. If only cos I'll win." Clearly poking fun, and she'd pet Landi's neck in the off-chance that the raptor picked up on that one! "Think those legs can tackle the rougher paths though...wouldn't they, girl!" Enrica did brighten up considerably when Bjorn noted she was doing great!
"Aiolfi, through and through." Her fidget was twirling a strand of hair into a curl around her fingers. "Nothing to be conquered here, no matter what some people or fae tell you. But consider yourself conscripted!" It was a grin and she'd ventured a clap to his shoulder! "More or less!" If 'conscripting' was equivalent to gathering a small batch of younger nosy adventurers.
Rook — 11/15/2020
"Well, we'll make sure to keep these guys from following." Guys as in mounts! "And if we must, we can make a jump for it." That was, of course, a jest.
"Hah! That remains to be seen. Landi might even cheat and leap forward." To the pet, the 'raptor crooned and eventually chirped. No aggression here, but the girl was calm as can be and Bjorn didn't show concern towards her. "They're certainly good for it. She can head over most terrain easily, though she's not so fond of damp spots."
Avoided them if she could.
"Very good, I don't think I'd be a good Conqueror anyway." Maybe when he was older and had an actual group of Viking rather than his sister or his parents. "Great! So, when do we start? What do you usually take? Landi can carry so many things."
Rigby — 11/16/2020
"Florizel can leap!" Even with more legs to trip. Clearly it was on - at least with her current available mounts!
"We start when we can wrangle our things. And I actually find my contact. We need...Brothers." Well, brother. And Cie, if it wouldn't lay her flat, these days..."Maybe.
"Gear you're not afraid to ruin." She gestured to herself, then: trousers, no skirts! "Weapons." She didn't look like she had any on her right now, but Aiolfi as a rule was not a family on which one should turn their back. A rule which seemed rather overly-ferocious reputation when stacked up against the rather-forward girl!
"Nothing heavy or obvious enough that you or she can't carry, but something you know well. We won't be fighting off ships dropping on our heads," that 'we' was grinningly presumptuous "but scavenging groups have given us trouble before. Not a LOT of trouble," she'd added a bit hastily. "But best be prepared."
"Conquer over there whenever you're ready. You don't sound like you're in that much of a hurry!" It was a laugh and a hand-wave, the 'over-there' was a vague gesture. Just-not-here.
Rook — 11/16/2020
"Well, I'll have to give you directions to my house then, so you and your own can come get me! I've no siblings that can go, my sister's too little right now." And he wasn't going to take her on a long trip, not quite yet. "We vikings have the best gear and weapons, you know, don't you worry about that."
He nodded after, patting Landi's head. "I'll bring my own food too. We've got a lot of stuff that can handle long trips." And after living on a ship, he knew all about that. Dried everything, but also harder breads, cheese and the like. "She will want to hunt her own, though." Probably better that way, if they didn't want to pack anything heavy.
"I am not! Conquering is better when you're older anyway, got to deal with uhhh, 'politics'."
Rigby — 11/16/2020
"You'll like my brothers. Only one of them is even old enough to show up, and you're lucky he's the one that stays up all night reading about vikings! Sure if he's found any of your peoples' weapons he's got them hidden in his room, somewhere."
"Sounds good. Jerky, and plenty of it!"
And regarding the raptor hunting. Richa nodded. Understood. Jian needed his crickets and little lizards and his tiny ferocious metabolism tore through them like paper. Landi needed to get her own, far larger food. And probably very frequently. "Your mother...could she, or does she train these as hunting animals, too?" It was a straightforward and practical question even if it left her as a partial coo to Landi, too.
"Politics aren't so bad." Bjorn sounded like Marc in a way, there; knowing it and not throwing themselves into it! "It gets better when you get the hang of it, it's just knowing who's all in the game and how they all play." And then another snort. "The 'conquering' part helps too!" In a way. Easier means of taking something, but a longer period fighting to keep it.
Rook — 11/16/2020
"Do you think he would? I'd love to see, if so!" Now he was intrigued, simply because most of their culture was lost due to the strange time-travelling and winding up in an era much further from their own. "Will do! As for my mother, she can! They hunt much better alongside others, raptors or us." Landi closed her eyes at the attention, verbal or otherwise.
"They're so boring! I don't want to do that, I'll leave it to other people and just conquer things. Like...have an Ambassador or something." Because Ambassadors were for after you took a place by force, yep!
"Anyway." He got up, only to dig around in one of the saddlebags at Landi's side and he'd start drawing on it. A makeshift map, but...maybe it'd work. "We live right...here. And here's the city!"
Rigby — 11/27/2020
"Get on his good side and he'll show you his collection, worse than a dragon, that one." It hadn't been helped that Marc had also very stubbornly refused to let anyone else touch his deceased elder-brother's room in the past year, either. "...in collecting. Not temperament. He'sjustfineyoudon'tneedtoworkthathard-!"
"Dad married and mum was exactly that. She could do the talking much better. Marc sounds just like you, you'll get along just fine!"
She inspected the map, venturing some chin-scratchies for Landi if she'd allowed it; nodded once. Seemed to work just fine!
"I can meet your mother soon as you'll all have me, if she wouldn't mind..." Aiolfi's dropping in. No, you're not in trouble, and it's just the daughter, anyway... "Should come over yourself. For...collection, yeah? And plenty of weapons and works in our library of your people! Old, though. Some's very old." A helpless shrug at that - how much would even be useful? Still good stuff, though!
Rook — 11/29/2020
"Think you could introduce us soon?" He asked curiously, though getting to hang around people his own age-group and not a bunch of animals rather appealed to him. He did have fun with his sister and the raptors, but only the latter were really allowed far from home without Crow sticking around somewhere to keep an eye on them.
"I don't think she'll mind at all! Will probably be wary, but you're from a noble family and she likes to be just considered the quiet farmers living near the coast." Bjorn grinned, rolling up the map and he held it out to her. "I'd love to! We've got an interesting collection of things, too. Not all just weapons, but more my parent's things than my own!"
He hopped up, walking up onto Landi's back. "When would be a good time to go to your place? Think they'd let me wander in with you?"
Rigby — 12/08/2020
"'Considered.' As opposed to the super-secret reclusive battle-mount breeder?" She did outright smile, just shy of a laugh at that. "Can't speak for the men, but I'll try to be...not-as-intimidating. Or. Well...can't promise I won't snoop a little. Within reason!"
"We can make time!" She'd only seemed encouraged by all of these prospects! She took the map; slipped it into her coat. She pat Landi if allowed and then drew the coat up around her shoulders as they'd started to move once more.
"I can let our father know, but...if I just walked right in with you and Landi today, I can't see that posing much of a problem!"
"Tavern first, can pick up Aurelia on the way back?" An implicit hope that the raptor and horse could at least be cordial on the trip to the Aiolfi home!
Rook — 12/12/2020
"Imagine if she let everyone know she bred them, she'd get so many people asking for one!" Too much demand! He adjusted the saddle as much as he could, bringing the reins back to him. "You sure?" He asked, and after Landi bumped her head in response to the pat, she'd stand up when the viking lightly nudged her side.
"Well, I don't mind just walking on in if your father doesn't send the guards at me." Especially because of the large raptor. "Yes, of course. I'll have her walk at a reasonable pace." Once she was ready, Bjorn nudged the raptor forward and held the reins loosely in one hand. "Your horse's not easily spooked, I hope!"
