Harpur often found himself in the town square around mid afternoon when doing his usual patrols, except now he also had a damn manticore with him. He'd tried to be discreet when he'd noticed that letter, he didn't want Bazil to know he was planning on responding to it. Chances were that he hadn't been as subtle as he'd thought he was with the way he kept glancing at it and hovering near the board to try and get some more info.
Now, the evening after work he'd left the barracks far earlier than usual to head home and get out of his armor. As soon as he was ready he headed out and checked both ways down the street before heading off in search of the house address he'd memorized. Moving under lamplight he made his way to the front door and then finally knocked upon it, glancing up and down the street with the vague paranoia that someone might be watching him.

Anna had gotten some offers to look, though a couple people wanted to get properly prepared first. She understood that, of course, and wouldn't ask for anything else. As evening came, she'd finished off her own dinner and dealt with the leftovers. Even if she didn't anticipate her husband home so soon, she still prepared food for more than just herself.
At the knock, she swept towards it quickly and opened up. "Oh! Hello Captain.." Anna greeted with a soft smile, moving her hands down to clasp infront of her stomach. "This...isn't bad news, I hope?" Perhaps they'd been found and Harpur was to deliver an outcome she didn't want to hear.
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur smiled warmly and bowed shallowly at the waist "Mrs. Bazyck. No news, but I saw your call for aid on the city board...ah...I'm here to offer my assistance." the corners of his eyes crinkled warmly. He looked up and down the street again before nodding past her "Would you mind if I came inside? I'd like to hear more" he could smell food and he tried to keep his stomach from rumbling, he hadn't yet cooked himself dinner having come straight here instead.
"Of course, if it isn't a bad time for you."
Rook — 03/16/2021
"Yes, of course. Come inside." Anna moved so he could step inside and once he did so, she'd close the door. Oblivious to why he was looking about, simply because she didn't see reason for paranoia, she said nothing of it. "Could I get anything for you?" She'd get a couple cups, incase he wanted a drink, though some part of her was sure he wouldn't go for a cup of night-tea. "It is strange times, but....people delay sometimes, right? No one knows what can happen out in those woods.."
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur stepped inside and looked around the house, partially paranoia, partially normal curiosity. "You have a lovely home" He'd have said it even if it wasn't lovely, it was just polite. "Oh- " he turned about from where he stood in the middle of the room and cleared his throat "A coffee if it isn't too much trouble? black, please?" he was a different man around human women especially, that much was obvious to anyone who'd observed him. He was considerably more gentle and almost shy of all things.
"I know those woods better than most." and yet faewatch wouldn't hire him "When I saw your request, I realized that if your husband is to have a fighting chance of returning...I'd better respond." he smiled and patted at the hilt of his sword "I know a few tricks to get us out of there if I find him and his fellow hunters in a bad situation. I'll do my best... I do have a few questions first, of course."
Rook — 03/16/2021
"Thank you. I have tried to keep up with the cleaning." Though, Anna mostly wanted to sit by the door and wait. It was a neat home, but nothing special - simple and cozy. There were some flowers to help brighten things up a little. "Of course, just let me get a pot started." And so she did! She poured herself some tea in the meantime, but didn't add anything to Harpur's cup as requested.
"I really appreciate that, Captain." Anna said gratefully, and leaned into the counter, smoothing out her sleeves. "I am happy to answer them, of course. What would you like to know?"
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur could see where maybe the home had fallen into a little neglect due to her concern but he didn't comment, though he did follow her to the kitchen and then head to wherever he could see a broom if one was out in the open "Perhaps I could sweep to return the hospitality, hm?" a coffee and invite inside was worth a little work as far as Harpur was concerned. Thornmouth was a budding progressive city but sweeping often still wasn't seen as a man's job. Yet Harpur had no real hesitancy in offering, some might just recognize it as the mark of a man who had been alone for long enough to rely on himself and they'd be right, and to a degree Harpur had come to see men who didn't do such things as the weaker sort. Contribute to the household you lazy bastards!
He rested a hand on the broom as he awaited her answer "Do you know where they were headed to hunt? a specific landmark they headed for? Perhaps a direction... a huntsman's map perhaps?" he knew hunters sometimes had maps at home that they marked regarding what areas were abundant in game or not. "Did he say anything unusual before he left? Of course I'm sure it was just a hunting trip, but I have to ask these things."
Rook — 03/16/2021
"If you would like to, that would be nice." She wasn't going to decline any help she could get, even if it was just cleaning. Once the coffee was ready, she'd fill his cup and brought it over. "It's just been strange with the quiet, even if I'm used to his hunting trips by now." With the coffee delivered, she'd sit back at the table and sip her tea while considering his questions.
"I just know there was mention of more deer closer to the mountains, and that someone gave him a tip of such. There's a map..." She'd get up again, so she could retrieve it and lay it out on the table. She'd indicate a circle written on one side. "Unusual? No, things have seemed normal.."
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur went back to the dining room and swept the tiles, stopping only when she returned with a coffee for him. He picked it up and nodded a thanks before taking a careful sip. His brow furrowed at the mention of a 'tip'. He set the broom aside for the moment as the map was brought out, eyes narrowing down at that circle "I see...That's where I'll be headed then, see if there's any trace of him in the area." he rumbled and took another sip of his coffee.
"Any idea who gave him this tip? ...does your husband have any 'enemies'? people who might wish him harm?"
Rook — 03/16/2021
Anna brushed her dark hair off her shoulders. "I really appreciate that, Captain. Do you want me to tell others you're going, so they can join you? Some of his friends came by, but they want to prepare for the trip first." In regards to the other questions, she thought over it a moment. "Enemies? No. I mean, there are other hunters who can be rivals, but I don't believe they'd ever hurt him because of game.."
Atleast she hoped it wouldn't get to that point. "We have done nothing to gain ire from the community.." That, too, was a hope she was now worried about. "Some newcomer from the tavern's all I know."
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur worried about that. A newcomer, hm? perhaps it had been some plot to lure away human prey by some supernatural. It happened more than the people of this city dared to admit and often Harpur felt like the only one screaming that it was a problem. The king would sooner have them all ignore the dangers for fear of 'offending' some sensitive little supernaturals-
He snapped away from his thoughts and set down the coffee, returning to sweeping as he'd promised. He made his way around the table, making sure to get under each chair as well. He used the time sweeping to think "I'd like to leave at dawn. How soon are his friends planning to be ready?" he asked "Do you know if they were with him when this stranger tipped them off?"
Rook — 03/16/2021
Anna would politely move from her chair and held it to the side so he could sweep under it, before returning to her spot. "Probably just as soon, I don't think they'd be comfortable going out at night at this hour.." Far too risky, but while she wouldn't say it, it was likely due to any supernaturals hanging out outside the city borders. "They might have been, but he took a couple people with him too, so they could all assist each other with bringing game back."
She'd fold up the map and held it out to him, just before she finished her tea. "I can give you their addresses, one of those who remained might have descriptions for you."
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur could think of one other asshole who kept luring people away for hunts. Of course he doubted the situations were linked but he was reminded nonetheless and his mood briefly soured at the thought. He swept a little roughly for a moment...damn Jack, why couldn't he just disappear?
He grunted "Please do give me the addresses, I'll have them meet me at the faewatch tower just past the forest homes. We can prepare to set off there, the more the merrier....it will take us the best part of a day to reach the mountains anyway." They were longer hunting trips but true enough yielded better game if one knew where to look. He finished sweeping and then used a dustpan and brush to gather the pile up and empty it into a bin before at last joining her to nurse his coffee.
"Don't you worry, Mrs. I'll do everything I can to locate your husband."
Rook — 03/16/2021
"Of course, one moment." Anna would fetch parchment and a charcoal pencil, so she could write down names and addresses. "I do appreciate this, Captain. I wasn't sure if it made sense to ask the guards, given the location, but I do hope it doesn't interfere with your work otherwise." She'd fold up the parchment and slid it over, nursing her tea again. "I just hope they're all alright.."
Degu — 03/16/2021
Harpur placed a hand on her wrist gently as she wrote and squeezed it comfortingly "Ah it's a little beyond the guard's jurisdiction, but nothing stopping me heading off in my own time. You might've heard I have a partner now, hmm" he glanced aside "I'm sure he can hold down the fort while I'm gone." he smirked at the thought of Bazil being stuck with his unit, surely they'd give him hell?
"This is what I became a captain for, Mrs. Bazyck... I live to serve and protect. I'd better get going though" he took a long drink to try and finish off his coffee "I have an early start and a lot of people to contact before I lay down to rest." taking up the parchment he set down the mug and headed for the door "If any others respond to your request, you know where to send them at dawn. Tell them to bring camping gear, this is a long trek."
Rook — 03/16/2021
"I am very glad to hear it won't be an issue for you. I would hate to take a guard Captain away from the city, even for a short period of time." Atleast the number of Guards available wasn't limited. "Very good. I will make sure to get onto that right away." She moved to stand and put the cups away, walking to the door with him.
"Have a good rest, please. I will walk with you all as far as it's safe for me to go." Likely to the forest itself, but no further than that. "How long do you think you might be gone?" Anna asks, holding the door open for him.
Degu — 03/17/2021
Harpur bowed his head as he stood in the doorway "Two days if we're lucky, maybe three if we run into any trouble. Four if we can't find anything straight away." he wasn't going to promise it be fast when he didn't know what circumstances he might find the man in. "You take care, Mrs. Bazyck, I will see you on the morrow. Try to get some rest" he smiled sympathetically before he'd step through the door, smiling back at her before giving a salute. It was less a salute and more a promise before he headed on off in search of the other men.
Rook — 03/17/2021
"Of course." Anna said in a tone that hinted she hoped it wouldn't take as long as Harpur assumed it might. "I will try, my best. Thank you again for doing this." Once he was off, she'd clean out the cups and make a decent attempt to get some sleep. The possibility of her husband having help coming home would certainly help.
