I'm a huge fan of westerns. Yee-haw! I haven't played much sci-fi, but I'm willing to give it a go. Not quite sure what kind of character I want to play yet for this. One or two of my existing Wild West characters might be able to morph slightly to fit, but if inspiration strikes, I'm more than happy to spin up a new character.
Just curious what others have in mind character-wise? Maybe some loose connections could be worked in from the get-go?

I'm big on both sci-fi AND western so this RP sounded like a dream come true!!!
As for characters, for now I'm already willing to bring over my pre-existing ones Clan Aliprandi (wealthy investors who might be interested in making deals and/or purchasing new lands in the Rim) and villain Darius Dunmoore in one of his many aliases. Maybe as a researcher, or a wealthy patron, or again looking for henchmen and bandits on hire. Or, he gets captured by some bandits and forms a sort of truce where he offers them to work for him... soo many opportunities!
I'll be also making new characters too, of course! Maybe some space cowboy or an old sheriff

I’m also super excited for this RP and am in the process of creating a new character I think will fit nicely! I do have a few pre-existing ones, mainly Belen (an assassin). However, I am thinking of creating a kind of Star Trek-like character; maybe he/she was in a space academy, got kicked out, and then came to the Rim to escape their worries? Nothing is set in stone, though, just ideas .
If you guys have gender preferences for characters, please let me know too. (Ex: you want a MXF subplot and have a female character), or any other ideas!!

Belen sounds like she could work on plots with two of mine, Darius (because wealthy criminal) and Cris "Light Raygun" (former criminal)
I agree! There could be a fascinating plotline with the three of them, both as enemies or allies.
I also do believe it is firefly-esque, but check with someone else just in case

The vibe we're going for is kinda Firefly-esque, right?
Absolutely! But honestly, it can be whatever you make it.
Firefly and The Mandalorian are definitely the best examples I can think of.
I am STOKED to be able to play with y'all, most of my 'Western' experience comes from watching old westerns with my grandpa. So I don't actually have much experience in this kind of story (kind of counter intuitive I know) but, because of my watching of Firefly, Dark matter (great series btw you should watch it) and The Manadlorian, I felt compelled to start it.
I made a new character for this, and i might bring in another, but one is Alex Haus, a fugitive(of sorts) from the inner Core who came to the outer rim as a way to hide from those chasing him(a common story to be sure) and now he looks for any piloting jobs he can get his hands on (even though he does not have a ship).

rolled 1d20 and got a natural 20.
Note: The other character is a gunslinger Satyr I made for D&D but I might revise for this.
I, on one hand, have a lot of spacey sci-fi characters that I love and am tempted to bring into this. But on the other hand, I think I want to come up with a completely new character and see what this RP shapes 'em into. Alas, I'm actually out of character slots so I'll have to do some shuffling around either way... as well as spend some time thinking on what my decision should be.
I have a character concept that kind of requires some background, mostly because I built the alien society they come from. He's from the New Rugaaran Star Empire, and he's part of the founding species, the foxlike Rugaaran Arboreals. The 'New' empire was founded by a city-ship that fell through an anomaly (of the sort you often see in Star Trek), and while they have a number of species that came with (including humans), they haven't really had contact with any other significant powers, until recently. The Rim Worlds are a fair distance from the Empire's established borders, but adventurers and mercenaries are already making their way there.
Recently having finished a term of servitude to pay off some serious debts, he's kind of looking to start a fresh new chapter in his life, so he's headed to the Rim Worlds in search of adventure. His species is social by psychological necessity, so he'll be looking for people to link up with, as well as work to do. He's not the most capable adventurer though, at least by his peoples' standards. Arboreals are naturally resilient and have an almost instinctual affinity for technology (sort of like Rocket Raccoon, or predatory Jawas), but his work in servitude mostly consisted of domestic tasks and being a driver. He does have savings with which he's bought passage and the gear he has when he arrives.
Sort of a quick summary of what an Arboreal actually is:
Descended from vulpinesques which lived in the trees in the megaflora forests of Rugaara (read: trees that are large enough for people to build modern metropolises in their upper branches). Ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 meters tall, with a long tail, Rugaarans have flexible, digitigrade feet, with semi-retractable claws in order to more easily cling to trees in the forests of their homeworld. Hands have dexterous fingers with opposable thumbs, also with semi-retractable claws. Sharp eyes and ears offset a less-sensitive sense of smell. Entire body is covered in fur, mostly shades of grey, brown, blues, and dull or bright red, though flashes of metallic blue might be seen from the undercoat, which is long enough to protrude through the outer coat, and is metallic in appearance, and colored to protect against the homeworld's blue sun, as well as help disguise them from prey on lower levels of the forest. The long, tufted tail helps to maintain balance both when standing still and moving from branch to branch. Despite having good visual acuity, they have poor night-vision compared to species from other worlds, because the bright sun has a good deal of light reflected onto the night side of the planet by the single, though large moon, and the fact that the majority of the plants of the world fluoresce at night.

Oooooohhhh.
That's a very interesting concept. PM coming your way!
