The longer time goes on, the more further back Roleplayer's Guild seems like a distant memory, but for some it was still a cherished place in their heart.
Me personally, I've come to absolutely love RPR far more than RPG, even at its prime. The community mods and admin Kim are the best around, and the site is optimized in far more ways than any of the previous places could ever compare!
However, RPG had a few nifty features I'd potentially like to see in RPR 2.0 if feasible.
Featured Profiles
On the dashboard of RPG, there was a featured profile list. 16 online users were displayed at random. With RPR, perhaps the feature could an optional thing to toggle on, and your character wouldn't necessarily have to be online for it to be seen. Perhaps even the ability to toggle which characters are features.
Yes, there is a 'search RP' function, but this doesn't seem to stand out compared to just the LFRP forums. I feel something that's featured right on the main feed will stand out more.
Universes
This one's sort of iffy
RPG had a universe feature, where someone could create a universe, detail that universe with a description (either brief of vivid), and then people could join that universe and have it displayed with the character.
For example. My character Lu Di is part of the 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms', 'Dynasty Warriors', and 'Warriors Orochi' universes. These universes could not only be displayed on Lu Di's page, but people could click on the universe to see info about the information and be able to search by that universe to find characters in the same verse.
This solves one of the primary problems I have with convincing people over to RPR: The noticeable lack of canon verse characters. RPR has always been a place dominated by original verse characters, and I feel creating a category to be able to search by universe will perhaps ease this.
Auto Resize
Simply put, the ability for pictures to autocrop down to a proper size if they're too big. This has probably been my ONLY frustration on RPR, if I'm being honest. It is quite a pain to have to use a third party system to resize my images to a size that RPR's parameters will accept.
If there's anything I want to see, it's definitely this one.
Additional stubs and category filters for searches
Being able to search by writing length preference, for example, with a sort of min-max sort of fashion. On RPG, you could set your parameters between one-liner, semi-para, para, multi-para, and novella. Myself, personally, I like to keep to the multi-para to novella levels, by for myself and with the person I'm writing with.

We had this at one point; you could nominate characters to be in it. Eventually, it got removed, partially due to administrative burden of reviewing the nominees and the sheer number of slave characters that were nominated (slave RPs was a HUGELY POPULAR GENRE back then.) Maybe we could bring it back in future!

We also have game tags, though they've been strongly de-emphasized from how they were used originally. It's definitely time for a review there.

I think that having a "universe" thing you could create would be better because outside of being a place to search for characters in a universe it could be used as a place to describe a setting, and thats something I certainly feel like I'm lacking- Instead I just have to copy and paste it from a text document whenever I'm talking to someone new and want to tell them about my own setting.

This is usually solved by making a 'setting/universe information' page in the group for the universe.

I've always assumed groups and universes were one and the same since most group RPs are in their own universe. Most people who use the group function use it to make a universe.
So I'd dare to say this technically...actually very much, already exists.
I also believe it's possible to add a group/universe a character is in via the 'game tags' option on the character page. You can add the name of any 'game' in this case universe and the link to the group that the universe and that character is tied to, so that when people click on the name it will take them to that group and show them said universe and it's information.
I think you can search other characters with a specific game tag.
What you might be looking for/what might make groups better:
Adding a basic optional universe creation tool to groups like with characters but instead of character information its universe information.
Featured Profiles
Haha, I can only imagine that was problematic back then.
But yeah, perhaps something without nomination. Just something someone ops their character(s) into in order to be displayed on the front page at random.
I don’t remember where I was going with the ‘search RP’ thing. That’s what happens when you quick type something right before bed. I think it more might have been related to the universe thing and my text got jumbled.
Universes
Neither groups nor games makes searching for specific canon characters easy.
I suppose that’s more what I’m looking for; an easy way to search for all the characters of a specific verse.
Aniroleplay had a simpler solution, from what I last remember. There was a tab for ‘verses’ that you could type into. You separate each verse by a comma and the search engine treats them as separate categories.
Auto-Resize
SAAAAAAALLLLVAAAAAATIIIIIOOOOOOOON!!!
RP Search
That’s actually what Roleplayer’s Guild had.
For each character, there were a few features you could display via dropdown bar:
Whether the character was Fan-Fic (e.g. a canon character that you didn’t initially create but were playing; example being Batman, Spider-man, Bugs bunny), Non-canon (Original characters in a established setting, say an original super hero in the DC universe), or original (which counted as the character and verse were your creations).
Minimum roleplay length requirements ( One-line, semi-para, para, multi-para, novella)
Maximum roleplay length requirements (same as above)
Literacy (very low, low, average, high, and very high). As many people have pointed out, though, literacy is far too vague, and this one I don’t think is needed.
And if your profile was checkmarked for an ‘adults only’ checkbox, you could also list your erotica preferences: No erotica, story driven, character selective, or erotica preferred.
A lot of these are covered by the ‘always/sometimes/never’ feature, but I feel like there’s no specific way to SEARCH by them. For example, if I want to weed out people who can’t RP past para level, I kind of have to guesstimate by their profile.
