Would it be possible for owners of groups (like me) to be able to move finished or obsolete stories / forum posts/threads into other groups owned by ourselves to archive them away (without needing to delete them to clean up) so the active groups do not become necroed with stories that are months old and noone roleplays with any more?
I don't see getting the ability to move stuff from one group to another.
Why not have a designated area in the group for those stories/threads and just move them there?

No. Topics will stay in the group for which they were intended. People said a thing for a particular audience, there's too much potential for abuse if you can then thrust that thing in front of another audience the OP did not intend it for.
As a side note, please be aware that "cleaning up" often enrages group members who wanted to have their stuff around for reference. The main site mods get a lot of FURIOUS or panicked messages from people who want to know if we can prevent group mods from doing this to their work.

Why not just lock those topics so people can't necro them, but they can still reference them?
