As now, you'll be able to view an All Ages section of the LFRP forum, as well as an Adults Only one if you are 18+.

These are going to be the practical changes:
  • You will no longer need to opt-in to being able to see the Adults Only version of the forum. On your 18th birthday, it will be available to you. Instead, opting in will be for viewing adult posts that specifically contain sexual content.
  • There will be a slight tweak to the rules. Instead of "all topics that advertise RP with sexual content must go on the Adults Only forum," the rule will be "all topics that advertise RP with sexual content must be flagged for sexual content." (The handling of which age group it is shown to will be automatic in the case of RPs with sexual content.)
  • All people 18+ will gain a new way to view Looking For RP topics, which allows seeing ALL RPs you are eligible to join on one forum view, instead of having to flop back and forth between All ages and Adults Only in order to see everything on offer in the forums now. This will be the new default view for everyone 18+ - however, you can choose to change your own personal default view, for those who want to use All Ages or Adults Only as their default starting place.
  • You will be able to filter LFRP topics that are flagged for sexual content: Disallow, Allow, Require.
  • An adult who posts a topic that is flagged for sexual content will have their "Allow me to see posts with sexual content" setting auto-enabled. This will help in a bunch of ways: 1) You'll be able to see your own freshly posted topic! 2) Even if you haven't fully explored the settings, you'll still have a very direct way of discovering what section such posts are meant to be in and how to get access to it, just by doing what you were going to do. 3) This should cut down on the number of sexual topics that are misposted on the all-ages board and increase the pool of people who have their settings set the way they actually want them to be.
This sounds wonderful Kim!
Again, Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication to your and our beloved site!
Looking forward to it
👏👏👏

I would suggest making sure that the wording here specifically includes topics that say they may have sexual content!
Am I reading it correctly that when an adult makes a LFRP thread (one without sexual content), that the original poster would mark it as either 'Adults Only' or 'All Ages'?

:)

Yes. It will default to all ages if you don't make a selection (or don't indicate it will contain sexual themes.)
Well, to elaborate on the above, YES, but, when you click the "add topic" button on the LFRP forum, if you're over 18 you'll see this:

Then you'll be whisked on to the topic creation form, with the right setting auto-checked for you depending on what you clicked. This should make it harder for adults to ever accidentally post in "all ages" when it wasn't what they intended, and highlight to newcomers that there are ways to filter their posts without making them explore all the settings first. My hope is that it's an easy and crystal-clear process for old and new players, and sees a decrease in misposts.
Wow this is so easy and absolutely a step in the right direction.
Everything sounds good to me, but I have one question that wasn't quite answered before, I don't think. When it comes to the current link that leads to the AO LFRP forum, will that still be up for those who have it active once we integrate to the new forum setup?

If so, can there be a way we can opt out of seeing that link, but be able to use the AO filters in the new forum? That way just one link leading to the new forum is available for those who want to jump right in and set things how they like? And with new 18+ user accounts, will they just see the new forum setup, or will they have the option to view the old AO LFRP Forum link if they wanted to?

I'm still tinkering with what can or will happen to the current link structure. I don't have an answer here yet.

All right then, that sounds fair enough to me. Overall, I like the new setup you have in mind. Like Claine said, it's definitely a good step in the right direction.

Agreed!

Also great work Kim, I can honestly think of no complaints at this time, aside from the minor clarification issue I quoted from Heimdall there. I honestly think this will make things better, and though it may take a little getting used to having it all integrated just with filters, I think in the end it will make it both more streamlined and more efficient, not just with being able to manually sort your options, but that if you take certain actions it will automatically filter your options for you the way you probably want.
