We've been discussing this over here on a related-but-not-the-same suggestion topic: https://www.rprepository.com/group/group.php?gID=3736&page=topic&page2=72567 But since it is in fact not what the topic of that thread was originally I thought I'd put a new one over here so new people browsing the project forums can see it.
Your post starting and ending with double parens (()) will qualify a post as being OOC and allow it to show up on the OOC tab.
For those who want to put the time in to retro-actively making their topics work with this: If you've been doing OOC some other way you can edit your posts to use (( )) instead of [ ]'s or whatever your thing was to make them qualify.
The other bit is -- you can now post with your USER account on an IC forum (previously only characters could post on IC forums,) however doing so causes the post to be counted as OOC regardless of paren usage.
IC/OOC tabs only appear on IC forums to begin with, of course.
This is already done and dusted for forums in the rebuild. I'm working on the PM version now.
This might be a bit of a cheeky suggestion, but if the site is able to identify a PM as a IC post.... Then can we have an extended edit period?

This will work quite well for existing IC forum topics. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make it retro-active for private messages. For those, it'll be something that works going forward when we switch to the updated version.

This sounds fantastic, love all these little tweaks that make things much easier to sort and track.
Also, here's a thought for a way to tweak this planned feature just a little more, but feel free to tell me if it wouldn't work because I don't know how easy or difficult it might be to code. What if, when you make a post, it automatically gets sorted into the same filtering option you have? Assuming that you have selected one of the more specific options instead of the 'All' filter.
Like, if you have 'OOC Only' selected for the thread and you go to reply, your post would get auto-sorted into OOC, and vice versa for 'IC Only' (except when posting as the player account vs. the character account, obviously).
Again if this would be too complicated to code/unnecessary, I understand--it's not truly that difficult to edit in a couple of parentheses--and either way, I approve of the thought and reasoning behind it.
