Whilst talking to my good friend dndmama, and agreeing that it'd be amazing to be able to like kudos that we really really realllyyyy like and agree with when we see someone elses kudos for someone we also love and have left kudos for already, (or even liking kudos that are given to us.

I know a upvote and downvote system wouldn't be a good idea, no kudos should be downvoted - so just the ability to like/heart kudos would be nice.

I also think having the ability to reply to the kudos that people give you would be amazing but less important I suppose.

EDIT: suggestion changed--- I just want the ability to like kudos and reply to kudos I get, once. Meaning we can only like and reply to a kudos we get once.
that's a great idea!!
I like the idea of ‘like’ing someone’s kudo. There have been a few I’d have used such a feature on.

As for commenting, the guestbook feature already works well for comments for characters if that feature is activated on the character page.

Of course but guestbook is a character thing and not a writer thing. Plus replying to a kudo would be way different than a guestbook comment.
Since kudos and guestbooks are used for completely different things.

Kudos is for a very specific 'review' of someone or a character. Where as guestbook is usually used as an IC feature not an OOC feature.

You can't really even reply to a kudos a character has gotten via the guest book because they aren't the same thing and aren't connected in any manner. So the result would be a completely disconnected comment.

That said I'd rather have the ability to reply to a kudo or just like a kudo over a guestbook for Player page because I get the feeling if there was a guestbook on players page that people would start only using that and not use the kudos feature at all.
I think being upvoting kudos would be useful, especially in supporting well written and explanatory kudos on character profiles and such

Yeah I get the difference and know there isn't any guestbook function for accounts. An upvote for all kudos would be cool.

As for guestbooks only being used for IC, that is the choice of the one writing the entry. I've quoted the kudo and made a comment to the writer of the character before and it works. Got into some lovely conversations with other writers this way. :)

Anyway, that is an aside... this is about Kudos!
I often get the urge to "like" awesome or well written comments I see on the forum boards. I think it comes from the fact that I'm a Facebook user so it's in my head. XD

I usually quote and agree in that case, but that would seem awkward on kudos (quoting one and agreeing with it in words), because it would clog the kudos up. So I see what you mean.

The ooooonly thing I would worry about would be if some people that leave kudos might feel bad if theirs isn't hearted and other people's are, and things like that.

For me, I already know with that setup I would automatically heart every kudos because I'd worry about someone feeling left out. However, as it is, I already always PM people that kudos me, and thank them, and then usually kudos them back. A heart function would save time on that. I probably wouldn't PM to thank them separately then, I'd just heart the kudos. And then I'd still kudos them back.

So, as a time/effort saver I can see how it would be beneficial, I would just still worry about the some people feeling left out thing.

Like if there were 10 kudos on someone's page, and 9 were "hearted" but kudoser number 5 wasn't hearted by anybody, that person might be less inclined to kudos people in the future because they'd be like "aw...no one likes my kudos."

On the other hand, it might encourage people to write more detailed kudos. And it would be an extra emotional boost for the reciever of the kudos to see that not only did someone kudos them, but X number of people also agreed with the sentiment! Hm.

But I guess that could work the other way too (if no one liked a kudos, it might detract from the initial joy of getting one, in the same way that it getting liked would boost that being-appreciated feeling that kudos give). I dunno...I guess I see advantages and disadvantages, so I'm neutral.

An ability to reply to kudos would be cool...for me it would just save the time of creating a separate PM. Which I don't mind doing -- like you said, less important but would be cool.
i think i like the meaning about being able to reply to a kudos on your profile; i'm satisfied with being able to just pm people but i do see why you could want to publically reply to people!

what i don't like is the idea of liking kudos because i assume it would be like on most social media where you can see how many likes a kudos would have. i think it was mentioned earlier how a player could feel sad if their kudos got less likes than other players had left on the same person's profile (at least that's how i understood it, please correct me if i'm wrong!). of course that should be taken into consideration but i particularly don't like the idea of it because it would make me (and i'm sure other people would feel the same way) insecure if i could see that the kudos on my profile has two likes and if i go onto another players profile, one of the kudos they have received might have ten likes. this would get me to overthink if i'm simply not good enough to write with, if nobody really agrees with the kudos, etc.

People can already see how many kudos someone has. If someone has 15 kudos and someone else 'only has' 2. I don't see how this would be any/much different personally. I'm sure plenty people get a bit sad that someone has 20 kudos and they only have 3 but that doesn't mean kudos shouldn't be a thing - so I feel like it doesn't mean liking kudos shouldn't be a thing. Not that it 100% should be but just that I don't think that should really be rhe reason why it can't or shouldn't be.

At the very least I'd enjoy me being able to like my kudos that I get.
Issue is it becomes a popularity and vanity metric even if it is intended as an upvote for quality and relevance and though it could potentially save the anxiety of messaging to save thank you I think kudos are generally written by friends and acquaintances.

This is what my brain keeps coming to, honestly. Whilst upvoting kudos sounds very sweet, making something genuine and heartfelt potentially tainted by being a popularity contest seems detrimental. Unless you heart all of them it could cause unintentional friction. I don't think anyone wants that awkward conversation of "Why didn't you heart my kudos?"
At this point I think I just want the ability to heart and reply kudos I get. And reply to them once.

Since it's just one heart/like and only one comment/reply instead of multiple it shouldn't be a problem then.

Thanks for all your input 💕
I think the system is pretty good as-is. I echo the dissenting opinions above, I don't think this would make kudos any better, although I understand the reasoning behind the suggestion. I think it's a "best of intentions" kind of thing. It would also add another layer of things that would need to be moderated (all kudos are reviewed by the mods), so there's that to consider as well. I think it's easy enough to just message a user back with thanks - I've done it on more than one occasion - since kudos show the user who submitted them.

Ah! But in fact, in RPR 2.0 I believe anonymous kudos will be a thing - so in fact we will not be able to PM every single person who gives us kudos back. If anything this makes being able to leave one reply to a kudos, (or like I said at the bare minimum, like their kudo once) even more important and useful.

Though yes the moderation thing - is definitely a consideration in regards to the idea of a written reply.

-- this could also be fixed by having chosen options of thanks to chose from (if the heart thing isn't made available).
This is an interesting idea, but I think not something we're going to add right now.

Understandable :)
