I feel almost positive that there has to be a suggestion for this already but I wasn't able to find it. If it's already been addressed, please feel free to delete this out!
I would love a drop down notification list, Facebook-esque style. I can't name how many times I've missed something (usually kudos or a reply to one of my posts) because it went by on the home page timeline without me seeing it. I don't want to opt in for emails, but it would be lovely to get notified. Perhaps not for the little ones (your friends commenting on posts, etc) but the events that directly relate to you?
