A rat chomped down on her bare toe as Rivka tried to tip over the barrel. "Eeeeee! Zakkewasser!" she cursed, shaking the rat off her foot by flinging it so violently that it sailed halfway across the cellar, colliding with several other rats as it landed. The barrel, however, refused to budge, even when she pushed against it with all her (un)impressive strength.
So Rivka hopped atop it instead, peering behind it to check if there was a hole where these rodents were coming from.

Oh, now wasn't that strange? Rivka could see what looked like an etching in the packed earth, or a least a part of it. Most of it was covered by barrel. Before she could report her findings, a sulphurous belch of a scent rose up, and in a faint puff of smoke, a Rivka-sized rat blinked blearily up at the goblin.
Morkhan at least was getting much work done; more than his de-legged undead friend. The revived rat was crawling forward on its two front feet, chomping at its smaller bretheren with little impact, though the swarm was quick to realize the danger and shy away from their undead cousin.
The few remaining tried to gnaw at Morkhan, but to little effect. His armour was too thick and they were scattered, not as well coordinated as when they'd first lunged Rivka. It wasn't long before the human had finished the last of the aggressive ones off. Now, only the occasional skitter and screech could be heard from the survivors as they slunk along behind boxes and barrels, planning their next move.

Morkhan leaned on his axe as he looked at the trail of rat corpses he had left. He banished the half of that giant rat and targeted three much smaller, but whole rats. He pulled off his cloak, now wet with blood, and walked through the rat blood and gore to where Rivka was with the barrel, while sending the three small rats to keep watch on the survivors. What in the name of The Raven were these rats?
That... was ... the ... LARGEST ... rat .... Rivka had ever seen. The goblin's eyes opened wide in amazement, the etching she'd spotted halfway beneath the barrel almost, but not quite, forgotten.
"Birdie, birdie, big rat!" Rivka screeched excitedly. "And magic!" It wasn't a very thorough description, but the best she could do in the heat of the moment. Because that rat looked a bit dazed, perhaps having being teleported from elsewhere, or maybe conjured into existence. Either way, Rivka wasn't going to wait for it to get its bearings. She dropped down from the top of the barrel straight toward the huge rat, her sharp claws extended toward it, intending to tear into it before it got a chance to attack.
((Trying out the 2d6 method! ))
