Hello everyone! I'm really interested in hosting a masquerade ball sometime this spring, but I want to try to take it to the next level. OOCly, I want to people to use temporary alts and not tell people which one is your character. Now, this won't be required, but I think it'll add an extra layer of intrigue to the whole shebang. Does this interest anyone, or does it just sound like too much work?

That's actually a reallly cool idea although I don't think it would be hard for people to figure out who is who, regardless, haha. I think it would probably work better for a larger crowd.
That's true! I, for one, don't plan on being found out. ;) People would definitely only get out what they put into it. If everyone participated, I think it'd be really fun. And even if they don't, it'll still be a fun masquerade!
I like the idea. There are some people that wouldn't be able to hide much, but others have all kinds of possibilities. Using Alts would also allow for that added level of 'is this who I really think it is' that's the goal for a masquerade. :)
Would it be open invitation or closed with people able to 'sneak-in' by posing as someone else? Also would servants be wearing masks, etc. etc. Hahaha.

I really like the idea.

I really like the idea.

There would be servants designated to keep drinks poured and the like, and they would be in simpler masks, though nothing so elaborate as the attendees. Beyond that, I think that in the spirit of the event, everyone is welcome so long as their identity is succinctly hidden--this would be checked by someone at the door. Lowborns might not be able to afford something too fancy, but it would be enough to wear concealing attire and a large mask, hood, or cowl.
Id loveee a masquerade!
One concern I see here is for characters who realistically wouldn't keep their identity a secret from each other--for instance, Jabriel and Goditha. Theoretically the disguises would make it difficult for an assassin to target anyone, but that isn't a good enough excuse to not have your guard with you! Now, both guard and ward would have disguises, and no one else needs to know who they are, but already that puts a bit of a damper on some of the intrigue.

Basically, I'm just trying to think of the best way to go about this! I definitely want to keep the intrigue. Possibly even at the end of the night have everyone whisper the uploader with their guesses as to who's who, and whoever gets the most correct will win a port space or something.
Not sure if I'd be able to attend such since idk if I'll ever have time anymore for any substantial rping outside of forum based things, but here is my two cents on this.

Alot of issue in this is that people play multiple alts here, so it would be hard to keep people from knowingly picking someone else. For instance, you play both Brendel and Ivian, and Ivian is Selwyn's guard and Selwyn and Ivian would know one another in all of this. I suppose you could with-hold who certain people can guess on based on that, but we're in short supply of women to men nobles here and blocking too many people from guessing on specific people narrows down that person/s

I don't think guards/lord/lady would not know each other and I think that guards would probably not be doing much/any dancing, rather standing along the sides keeping an eye on everything, so they'd be playing their lord alts should they have any.

I think this would be a fun idea, but I am not sure we can make much of a game out of it, at least one that doesn't involve dice.

Hope that all makes sense.
