Vierrynne was slightly surprised as she noted that Shaelyn understood some of her words. "yes... Gladiators..." she murmured.
She herself didn't trust any of the currently present people, but at least they didn't attack or hurt her in any way, so she might as well stick with them for now.
"Better to get some sleep. It's night time right now." she explained just as the light in Griffon's hand disappeared. The others may have been unable to tell, but living underground for centuries has caused the Drow of Esperia to develop an unnatural track of time, being able to feel when it was night or day.
"You're going to need some rest. I've got the feeling we were the last to be thrown in here this year..."
She smiled at all of them, but a little bit longer at Shaelyn. At least she was kind to her. Vierrynne hadn't gotten any true response from the other female yet, and the storyteller had just been rambling. Not that they were to blame of course... They didn't know either.

Shae nodded." They will probably come to check to see if we're still alive soon." Shae looked around at the others before stretching a little." I won't be sleeping since I'm not tired. There are some empty places to rest in the left corner and against the back wall."
Avery didn't know what to think or what to say. She knew not to give up but she didn't know what options she had. She started thinking out loud. "So what options do we even have? Is the only way out of here to win the fights? Or do we all have to stick together? But we don't even know eachother..." She trailed off lost in confusion, worry, and thought. She didn't move to the corner and she didn't lay down. I don't think I can sleep.
Griffon brought back the eerie glow with his small and weak light source. "I was just out for a while, I'll sleep later." He smiled, coming back to reality. "Besides, we need someone who can cheer up people... you all look so... horrid." He paused, then added, "no offence!" If there was any question as to why Griffon was able to stay so upbeat, it is because of a few things that would make everyone understand if they just knew. For starters he was raised to be joyful at all times possible as well as to know that despite his families adventuresome past, present, and future, very rarely does a Pardoner die on an adventure. This was not because of any magic or blessing, no witchery was involved. They were a lucky bunch, and a bunch that could weasel their way out of most trouble. This did not make them invincable however. Every now and then a Pardoner had luck evade them and they met their untimely demise.

He looked at Avery. "Who knows what to do. Being touchy-feely might not save you from the sword of another of these prison mates." He smiled at her. "Just stay alive I guess. You know how to fight right?"
Vierrynne however, did decide to lie down. The others may not follow her advice, but she knew better. She laid herself down next to Shaelyn as comfortably as she could on the hard rocks, and closed her eyes. She didn't doze off completely, and was still following the others' conversation in the background. For a second she opened her eyes again and looked at Shaelyn. I wonder what she was doing here... Griffon was obviously an adventurer, so she guessed he had his reasons. Of Avery, she had no clue either. She sighed slightly and closed her eyes again.
"Well ya, I know how to fight, if I have my bow. I'm good at that but not to great at anything else." She looked at Griffon. "I know some magic too, but it backfires sometimes" she tried to sound positive when talking but she was quite nervous. "And I'm not saying we need to be touchy feely with everyone but maybe make an alliance or something. Just to stay alive. I don't know it was just a suggestion. Favorite weapon?" She tried to keep the conversation going.
Vierrynne answered Avery without opening her eyes. "Forget about magic. We'll be getting countermeasures for that." she changed her position into a more comfortable one. "If they'd allow magic, more powerful mages could get out. In fact, the door itself over there, as well as the entire cave, is currently magic-protected."
"Well good thing I'm not good at it. Uh so what do they have us do? And how does all of this work?" She realized her positive outlook was diminishing. She didn't know what to think but wanted to know so many answers. Gosh I don't want to be annoying.
Vierrynne replied, her eyes still being closed. "Two weapons will be laid out in the center of the arena. The contestants will be dressed in whatever their superiors feel like. Once you get into the arena, run for whatever weapon you think best. Whoever gets there first has first choice, I guess." she shrugged. She didn't look in the least concerned, but in fact she was terrified. A shiver ran down her spine, and she moved for a second in an attempt to hide it.
"Well okay. Thank you" she stopped talking. Well now what?!. She took to thinking. I've never killed a person, or anything that talks.. She realized that she had took to liking the 3 that had been talking. She laid down. Not sure where she was but she managed without hurting anyone. So that was a plus. But she couldn't close her eyes. She was so scared.
Griffon looked down at his ball. "Well crap." The ball sparked and fizzed out. While his abilities were more magic tricks they still used a tad of magic and half of magic was the mind. With the combination of the two he could do no more. "Got anything else to ruin for me?" He looked to Avery. "Mine is my cutlass, best weapon for me."
"Mine is archery but I can fight with swords, especially heavy ones. I don't use magic but I get stuck fighting in cages because of my ability." Shae sighed. She yawned and stretched.
She looked to Griffon and then to Shae "cool" her voice had lost all perkiness "wait so if you're good, you can't just win? They put you in a cage?!" She roller her eyes awesome she thought. This should be fun. She realized she was actually kind of tired but didn't want to sleep. She wanted to hear what the others would say. Maybe all hope isn't lost yet.
"Archery is not a weapon! That is a skill." He shook his head. "A weapon for archery would be more like a long bow, short bow, compound bow, E-T-C. Even maple, oak, and whatever other kind of wood. There's alot of variations of bows." He smiled, feeling smart.
Avery smiled with her eyes closed. "You sure do know your stuff, don't you?" she laughed a little but it sounded almost forced. "How have you learned so much? And why don't you seem tired or nervous at all?" She tried to get comfortable but being on the stone ground made it almost impossible. She kept moving around but nothing helped.
Griffon shrugged in the dark. "I'm a story teller, if you use my voice as an indicator for how I am then I have the ability to make you believe anything." He took a deep breath. "I try not to think of it, for I still have time before my life is in the hands of another. It is dark now, come the light then you shall see my shaking hands as they clutch a bloody blade, be it" he meant the blood, "mine or anothers." He took a nervous breath and sighed a nervous sigh.
"well there we go. You seem human now." She glanced at Griff. "And no I can't tell what you are like just by what you say, but it was to see if you would admit to being human or if you were a hotshot." She sighed "Im glad you aren't a hotshot."
Vierrynne gave up on sleep, she herself was too nervous for it as well. She sat up right and sat against the cave wall. "Don't worry about it, no one here expects you to not be afraid. Except for he occasional brute, maybe. However-" she glanced around the cave "- if we have one of those here, he's yet to reveal himself." she sighed as she took in the others. Indeed, for a moment there the fear had surfaced in Griffons' words, Vierrynne had spotted it as well.
Shae smiled." Sometimes, people would put their brutes in another cell so they don't have people already dead." She yawned and shook her head. She reached up and pulled a few feathers from her hair." I've been cooped up in here for too long." She said to herself as she tossed the feathers aside.
Vierrynne saw the feathers. "What are you?" she asked. "A shifter?"
