Hey everyone.
I know that most of us know that self-care is very important for everyone, no matter their walk of life. Very often, self-care is only portrayed as doing fun and pleasurable things, stuff that is supposed to make you feel good and relax.
After several years of therapy, I found that this is not always the case. Self-care can entail a lot of things, and this article perfectly describes it. If you feel like your self-care routine isn't working, or you want to know more about it, take a look:

What have your self-care accomplishments been as of late?

I thought I was doing this self-care thing the right way until November when it became obvious I was not. Yes, sometimes self-care looks like pleasurable activities, and in such cases, it is not so hard for me to get myself to do it. But if that were all that self-care entailed, I would not have found myself in the place I am in. I've been doing that kind of self-care for years with insufficient gains, so this leads me to believe my self-care regimen was incomplete.
What social workers and other people don't often tell you is that self-care can be completely terrible. Self-care includes a lot of adult-ing, and activities you want to put off indefinitely. Self-care sometimes means making tough decisions which you fear others will judge. Self-care involves asking for help; it involves vulnerability; it involves being painfully honest with yourself and your loved ones about what you need.

I want to add that my self-care today has been good. I'm focusing on obtaining a scooter for my travel needs, as well as a short lesson on how to drive it properly. This is a bit stressful, but in a good way.
Unfortunately I also have 3 health care appointments surrounding this process - a flu shot, a diabetes eye checkup at the hospital, and that same day a therapy appointment.
This is too much, but all of these are necessary. So tomorrow I will at the very least reschedule therapy to an earlier or later date (1-2 weeks), and see if I can move the flu shot up a week as well in case I feel under the weather.
It's not fun to do, but by spreading these appointments out a bit more, I'm at least reducing the load of having everything happen in a short span of time, which is much harder on me.
