The following is a description of the Sanctum, the home of the Kyriders. When you make a new thread in this forum, be sure to somehow indicate where the thread takes place.
The headquarters of the Kyriders is an extensive and ancient system of caverns, cliffs, tunnels, and meadows. Though mostly natural, some of the tunnels and rooms have been hollowed out by blackpowder or pickaxe. It is tucked away in the mountains and foothills in the far northeast of the Kala Ree basin. The network extends deep into the mountainous rock and under the stony fields of the foothills, with entrances scattered across them and up into the cliffs and peaks. Small watchtowers, little more than drystone columns with enough space on top for a Kyrka to perch, are positioned in the foothills, tall enough to offer a good view of the surrounding land.
Much of the foothills are fenced off into meadows and fields. Most are used for grazing herds of Nuru, but some house crops or orchards. Almost everything grows wild these days, including the herds. A few abandoned farmhouses, now overgrown with wild grasses, sit lonely at the crests of rocky knolls. Years ago these meadows were tended by unbonded Serra happy to help the Kyriders, but now very few such Serra remain. With the dwindling number of Kyriders, most of these fields aren't needed.
A series of dirt roads, hard-packed from generations of feet and wagons, runs through the foothills. The main road is wide enough for ten Sillari to walk abreast, though these days it is lonely and barren. It ends at a large opening, wider than even the road, in a cliff face over a hundred feet tall. This hole opens directly into the vast gathering hall.
Gathering Hall
Tunnels go off in all directions. This room, known as the Gathering Hall, is used for meetings and training. People also often choose to socialize here, so there is a lot of furniture scattered around the edges.
The Aeries
High within the cavern system is a network of small rooms used as personal quarters. At any given time most of these are empty and bare. Most are open to the outside air to provide easy access to the sky, and may share an entrance with other chambers. The largest of these rooms are offered to Alphas, former Alphas, and Betas. Each room is furnished appropriately for its occupants. Families and friends are kept together, and Kyrlings are generally given rooms with no windows at first, for their own safety. Once the young Kyrka master flying, they are offered windowed rooms.
The Hotspring
The hotspring cavern is where Alpha Kyriders lay their eggs.
Hunting Meadows
A large part of the fields near the Kyrider caverns are fenced off. These act as grazing fields for large numbers of prey animals, such as goats, sheep, and Nuru. There are even rabbit hutches for young Kyrka to practice hunting.
In addition to these places, the Kyrider caverns also have places for storage, cooking, and the like.
