THAT... is a good question. HMM... I shall say mutton chops are the most common form of facial hair for males. They aren't as good as (most) humans at growing full beards, but it isn't impossible, so, go nuts.
I'll go ahead and ask another question here, since if you've added it to the setting page I missed it--I'm pretty much presuming that the Serra have alcohol, but what else might they have in the way of mind-altering stuff? Tea leaves, tobacco, particular little mushrooms popular with teenagers, anything like that? I'm thinking customary and accepted things, like what people might grow and sell, or keep an eye out for when gathering/hunting; I'm already presuming there's wild plants out there that the well-versed herbalist/adventurous consumer can employ but that you wouldn't find at market.
Nooooooooooo...(...ot... yet....)?
But I am making a cranky old herbalist/healer who might have stuff like that in his pharmaceutical supply! And also strikes me as someone who might pull out a pipe sometimes if Serra have them.

Well I know that I don't need the answer, but you guys might. At what age are Serra allowed to use such substances if there are any?
Hmmm... yes. They do have tea and other drinks brewed from roots that have caffeine. They also grow various types of tobacco and probably other smokables with more potent effects. ;P Pipes are the favored means of smoking--cigarillos and similar things aren't really available. I reckon they also ferment whatever they can get their paws on... just like humans
Recreational use of psychedelics is fairly low, and is mostly reserved for shamans taking people on vision quests or to see their ancestors. I'm thinking there could be a couple different kinds, maybe with slightly different psychedelic (and possibly partly magical) effects, but feel free to make them up as you go.
Teens may be inclined to start imbibing in tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol around age 16, but before then, it's frowned on.
