We need to define out elements so we know what the heck they do and who can use them. We can't have people making up nonsense elements and creating their own abilities because when we will have OP nooblets.

Here are my ideas on what elements what we should use and what they control.

Fire - basic shit. It's fire. Low levels would only be able to manipulate fire that already exists, higher levels would be able to create fire.

Water - Same as fire, but with water. High levels would be able to pull water out of plant life, soil, etc. Low levels can not manipulate ice. Ice would be difficult because it's frozen and solid rather than fluid and easy to move.

Earth - Able to manipulate rocks and soil. The higher the level, the bigger the chunk of earth a fox can move. High levels can manipulate softer gemstones and metals. High HIGH levels can manipulate hard metals and very hard gemstones.

Wind - Can manipulate air currents. Level determines how much wind can be controlled at once. Low levels would need wind to be blowing to be able to use it (like fire needs pre-existing fire to move it). Higher levels could create their own currents to control. Winged foxes may be able to cheat their way into this at lower levels by flapping their winds to create a breeze to control.

Flora - can manipulate plants. Not for foxes under 3 tails because this requires manipulating living things. Level determines how much plant life can be controlled at once. Only high levels can manipulate trees.

Lightning - can control lightning. Not for foxes under 4 tails because holy shit it's lightning guys. It can kill things in one hit, even a small one. Level determines how large of a strike can be produces. 4-6 tails would need lightning to occur to control it, but are able to create small amounts of electricity. 7-8 would really need to work to create lightning from nothing - insane amount of energy and concentration - but can produce more more static shocks. Only 9 tails can summon lightning on command. Lightning can not be summoned underground.

What other elements can we use?

Are we just getting rid of the idea that magefoxes are innately born with certain elements? The old standard me and Sing agreed upon was that magefoxes were born with elements and they could most easily study and advance in that element, and then learn other elements at a much more difficult pace.
I still agree with foxes being born with an innate element, like one of the four very basic elements. lightning and flora-born foxes could originate from very strong parents.
Okay, I thought about it some more, and I still think Light/Dark/Shadow should be considered an element (or something). Seriously, from a nature/evolutionary perspective, that type of magic would be super useful in hunting and running away from predators. I don't know, I just really feel that we shouldn't take away that type of magic.
I don't think I'm wild about limiting what elements players have access to by number of tails; I think it makes more sense/makes for more interesting progression to have every character born with one tail and one element and progress from there. I like the idea of Earth and Flora being separate, especially when you're bringing gemstones and stuff into it- that seems like it could go in a lot of cool directions, especially with metallurgy and making pretty shiny jewelry. Low-level Flora users could still create plants, but maybe they could be limited to simple stuff like clover and grass that dies and decays very quickly (limited by physical contact, maybe...) Lightning is a little harder. I'm tempted to go with the 'it's a sub-discipline of Fire' route but then we'll get umpty fire users who really just want lightning... Hm. Maybe low-level lightning users could be limited to small sparks, static, sensitivity to.... pressure systems? Or seeing circuits (even non-electrical ones- like the water cycle and that kind of thing, being aware of systems? I dunno, I'm just throwing stuff out there.)

I like the idea of having some kind of illusion / camouflage magic just because it's so prevalent in nature; maybe we could roll light and shadow into that? Low-level players can do very minor glamors and magic trick type things, high-level users can do fully immersive illusions... It seems like it'd be easy to abuse, though.
