WHERE'S DA PUNK
Shouldn't we have more Punk-based RPs? When I came to this site, I was disappointed at the lack of Steampunk roleplay. Instead of complaining, I thought I'd change that. There are other punks in addition to Steampunk I'd like people to RP about or at least know of, which are all listed below. -

Punks and Stuff
In addition to Steampunk, there are many types of Punk that offer great RP settings.
1.) Steampunk is obvious. It's based on if everything technology was created through steam power and clock gears, with culture based on the 1880's. It's awesome. Skyships, clockwork androids, nobles... Just. Awesome.
2.) Dieselpunk- this picks up where Steampunk stops. After steam came grease and diesels. With a 20's-40's culture, Dieselpunk is all about ridiculous WW2 future scenarios. Metal Slug and Disney's Atlantis are examples of Dieselpunk.
3.) Cyberpunk- TRON, but not a videogame. There are two versions of this. In the first version, which is more well known, is stuff like F-Zero and Starfox, along with Star Trek. The other version is today's technology but to the extreme, which is exemplified by the movie Lockout, if you've ever seen that.
4.) Stonepunk- fire and rocks were all we had at one point. What if we made an entire city with a government and everything, using only sticks and stones? Ridiculously impossible structures and whatnot are present in stonepunk, with having as many technological advancements as possible be created out of simple machinery, even if they aren't really possible. The Flintstones is an example of Stonepunk.
5.) Biopunk- If you've every played Bioshock, Bioshock is a Biopunk game, mixed with Ocean/Sky Punk and Steampunk. Jurassic Park is also an example of a mainly biopunk story.
6.) JunkPunk, by JayBird.
JunkPunk is similar in regards to aPUNKalypse, Weird West, or Space Western (Browncoats!), or Desert Punk. In the idea of JunkPunk, it is usually a lack of resources that causes the 'signature look'. Good examples of this that come to mind are the Borderlands series and the Fallout series. In many, many instances, even in the 'nice' areas, there are recycled and re-purposed materials everywhere, from the chairs in an office being made out of old ejector seats to the oven in your house being made out of the trunk of a car. When you play the game of Junk, you recycle or you die.
7.) Ratpunk, by JayBird
Very neatly related to JunkPunk is one that I have seen even less often, but with a hugely imaginative and elaborate example. I am referring to something I call RatPunk. The only thing I have to reference is the movie Flushed Away, but all of the examples therein are pure gold. (Plus, y'know, Hugh Jackman. Fer reasons.)
As I mention, RatPunk is rather similar to JunkPunk, but on a totally different scale and means. In RatPunk, everything is re-purposed from another/higher culture. A playing card becomes a table, candy wrappers become church windows, the battery-powered motor from an RC car becomes the ultimate weapon of destruction. It helps to have characters that are very very small in RatPunk, but it is not necessary to do so.
The following punks are things that can be added to the main types of punk:
1.) "Apunkalypse"- which is basically post-apocalyptic.
2.) Cattle Punk- This is more of something to be added to another Punk. It's space western, essentially. Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Borderlands are great examples of Cattle Punk.
3.) Desert Punk- Basically a place where the environment is ridiculously harsh.
4.) Dungeon Punk- This is just typical fantasy. It's about if magic was real, would we focus more on advancing technology or magic?
5.) Gothic Punk- Harry Potter is an example of Gothic Punk. Magic is real, but we just don't know about it. OR, it is real, and everyone knows about it.
6.) Ocean Punk- Pirates of the Caribbean, anything with lots of pirates, etc. Lots of water. And pirates.
7.) Myth Punk- Modern reimaginings of various myths.
8.) Space Opera- Stories that focus on a lot of deep space travel. Star Trek and Star Wars are examples of space operas. -
