Many of you have probably seen a variety of weather types in the Pokemon world and have seen some have helped you while others have hurt you. How do you utilize these weathers to aid you in battle? Well, it's simple, there's a variety of ways for you to become a weather master that can aid in your battling and totally disrupt your opponents.
We'll be starting off with one of the most common types of weather, strong sunlight. This is a useful bit of weather that is very helpful for Fire- and many Grass-types. This increases the power of Fire-type moves, decreases the power of Water-type moves, and if you have a certain ability, it can either aid or hurt you. Moves like Synthesis and Growth are powered up under the harsh sunlight, allowing a Pokemon to heal more and in the case of Growth, doubles stat increases. Pokemon with Dry Skin as their ability are harmed as a result of the strong sunlight. If you're running a mono-Fire or sun dependent team, having a reliable sun setter is a necessity for any team. Pokemon with Drought like Ninetales or Torkoal are irreplaceable, and strong Sunny Day users are great choices. Pokemon like Primal Groudon is a fantastic choice since, unless your opponent sends out Primal Kyogre or Mega Rayquaza, its harsh sun cannot be changed until its KO'd. All Pokemon are also immune to the freezing status.
There are two types of sunny weather, and they both have different effects in battle:
You have harsh sunlight which is caused by Sunny Day or Drought. This raises the power of Fire-type moves by 50%, activates certain abilities, and weakens Water-type moves by 50%. This can last from 2 turns to 7 turns, depending on whether or not your Pokemon is holding the Heat Rock, otherwise it'll last from 2-5 turns.
Then you have extremely harsh sunlight which is activated by Desolate Land, the exclusive ability of Primal Groudon. Unlike the harsh sunlight, this can only be overridden by Primordial Sea or Delta Stream, the exclusive abilities of Primal Kyogre and Mega Rayquaza respectively. Like Sunny Day, this increases the power of Fire-type moves by 50%, however this also renders Water-type moves completely ineffective. It will only disappear once Groudon has been KO'd.
Now, let's move onto the abilities and moves that are directly affected bu the sunlight.
Moves:
Growth, under the harsh sunlight, Growth will raise a Pokemon's Attack and Special Attack by two stages rather than one.
Synthesis, Moonlight, and Morning Sun restore 2/3rds of the Pokemon's HP rather than just half of it.
Hurricane and Thunder's accuracy drops to just 50%
Abilities:
Chlorophyll - The user's Speed is doubled.
Dry Skin - The Pokemon loses HP every turn, in rain, HP is restored every turn.
Forecast - Castform will change into its Sun Form and become a Fire-type.
Solar Power - Boosts Special Attack in exchange for losing HP every turn.
Leaf Guard - Prevents status ailments.
Flower Gift - Increases Attack and Sp. Defense of the Pokemon and its allies.
Harvest - A berry is guaranteed to be recycled.
Try to utilize this type of weather whenever you get the chance, it'll come in handy for you in the future. Good luck in your future battles
