Rain is one of the most common and perhaps most versatile forms of weather the game, it has a variety of effects that could easily turn the tides of battle; either in your favor or your opponents. This form of weather is particularly useful for many Water- and Electric-type Pokemon, while generally being detrimental towards Ice-, Fire-, and most Grass-types. This increases the power of Water-type moves by 50% while weakening Fire-type moves by 50%, moves like Moonlight, Morning Sun, and Synthesis have their healing rates cut to only 25% of the Pokemon's max HP, rather than healing 50% of it during normal weather. This also activates a variety of abilities. In addition, Sliggoo will only evolve if its raining in the overworld.
There are two types of rainy weather, each with slightly different effects in battle.
First, you have rain which caused by Rain Dance, Drizzle, or could automatically be summoned by in-game weather. It lasts from 2-5 turns, but can be extended to seven thanks to the Damp Rock. In addition to strengthening and weakening Water- and Fire-type moves respectively, moves like Hurricane and Thunder become perfectly accurate, which is very useful on a number of Pokemon.
You also have heavy rain caused by Primordial Sea, the exclusive ability of Primal Kyogre. This is effectively a Drizzle on steroids, however this completely renders Fire-type moves ineffective and it will not end until Kyogre switches out, is defeated, or if Primal Groudon or Mega Rayquaza override it with Desolate Land or Delta Stream respectively.
Now, let's get to the moves and abilities that are impacted by the rain.
Moves:
Thunder and Hurricane become perfectly accurate, and in Diamond and Pearl, Thunder had a 30% to hit through an opponent's Protect or Detect. This does not exist in the present games, however
Moonlight, Morning Sun, and Synthesis' healing abilities are weakened.
Abilities:
Forecast - Castform will transform into its Rainy Form and become a Water-type.
Dry Skin - The user's HP will be restored slightly every turn, however under harsh sun, the user will lose HP.
Hydration - Status affects are automatically healed under the rain.
Rain Dish - The user's HP will be restored slightly every turn.
Swift Swim - The user's Speed will be doubled.
Try to capitalize on the effects rain has and use them to your advantage, it could likely be what gives you the win.
