*she easily matches his gaze--he's made her a bit angry here* What kind of question is that? Who's more important-- Why do you think I'm even considering this?! You've seen me, all this time, you know how I was when I got to the fold and who I've become since then. Or I should hope you do. Do you think I want them out of the game for my sake? You've seen me at my worst, what fear of the game has done to me--and I would go back in there and play again in a heartbeat, I'd play it a hundred times, if it meant Hamnet and Factor and Ribbon and Valdis would never have to!

... Well, I would elaborate on the existence of substitution options and such, like how a hundred times would not be necessary, but I would not want to upset you further.

The other guy can provide you with the second option. You need only go through the door to talk with them.

*Av looks away again, to a simple office door that has been provided for you amidst the dark empty space*

[==>] [OPH] [==>] [HIE] [SO=] [==>] [ERR] [}|{] [==>]
*seeing the door cools her a bit--reminds her of when it was first offered, that night she spoke with Santek instead. How much else could change, with a certain change... She tells herself that speaking with the other guy is not the same as taking the offer just yet. She could get information that could protect her family. And she is above all determined to protect her family*
*she goes through the door*
*a simple office space awaits inside. far more substantial than the empty darkness Av usually meets in*

*in one corner of the room, an over-prototyping afflicted Imp sits in a cage. the other, a large Desk with shelves behind it. A nondescript person is sitting at the desk, currently working on a computer. Numerous books lie on the shelf. '~ATH for dummies, ~ATH for smarties, ~ATH for smart dummies, Clockwork Star Compendium:A compressed Constellation SEER for your shelf, Advanced Frog breeding for dummies, A guide to the True Draconic: the Earth and you, Frogs Microbes & Trees, Energy: a monstrous guide to Dust & Grist, Sprite basics, How to start feeling better, discovery of the self: how we're all just interpretations of XYZ^LCS, Aspect academics'... just to name a dozen. some Petri dishes can be found on both the desk and the shelf, some Microbes of unusual size (about as large as a grain of rice) each being carefully and individually contained in them. The Microbes seem to have a rather Celestial look to them; faint hints at nebula and stars within them... a single hallway leads out of the plain room, doors on either side continuing on for a long while.*

*seeing you, the Imp starts to panic & freak out; its 4 floating hands grabbing at the bars & shaking. In one of the small cages that are a part of its body, (of which there are 5 independently operable cages,), a small gold tablet rests. Its head, which floats independent of its body, & which has spikes on the underside, red circuitry, & a mask, is methodically clashing down atop its body, which also has a making bed of spikes along the top of it. 2 of its floating hands have chains attached at the wrists, ending in weights, while the other 2 hands have crystals on the wrist-end; crystals that seem capable of generating simple hard-light blades... This Thing is a far-cry from the mundane Imp*
*The other guy has seemingly not taken notice yet of either you or the Imp, instead continuing to work at their computer, and occasionally glancing at one of the dishes*
...nice place you have here.
*The Imp is making angry sounds* 'GnrrAUGHAa!'

*not wanting to deal with Imp sounds during a potential conversation, they silence incoming sound from the Imp's corner with a brief computer Command*

I'm not one for small talk. If anything here seems nice or interesting, please wait to ask Av about it. I'll respect you in answering if you really must know something, but I'd prefer to wrap whatever this is up and get back to work. Av let you in for some reason, correct?
Av told me that you have a way to keep the game away from my family. I want to know what it is, what it entails, and if it's better than the normal precautions I can take.
'bing!'
*a 'new message' noise is produced from their computer; Av filling them in*
...
Av says you wanted 'option two'. That would not perfectly ensure that the game would stay away.
Rather it would leave the option to play it or not to them.

'Normal' precautions can find a way of causing it to be played in the same way that fate handles all who try and avoid it. minimal effect.

There are ways of permanently Closing off access to the game, with practically no side-effects whatsoever; it only takes a few tag edits.
but things will go poorly if they ever try and forcibly start the game with that in effect.

I'll help you however you want, but my advice would be to deffer to Choice rather than Lockdown. Not everyone gets a choice in what they get to do with their lives. And yes, to those of us that went in without understanding, or that were tricked, or that were forced, the game seems to be an incredible evil-
...
'sigh' ... there goes Av expanding. I didn't plan on saying that last part.

I also DON'T PLAN ON MENTIONING WHAT IT IS I'M DOING HERE OR ANYTHING I HAVE AROUND ME.

*the 'other guy' seems to be plenty plagued by Av*
*despite it all, she finds some amusement in seeing someone as annoyed by Av as she can be* Having a choice is the important thing. I want them to have an informed choice. No railroading forcing their hand, no shiny packaging drawing them in. They should have what I didn't.
*they glance up at You for a moment, before looking back at their computer*

Well, there should be no shortage of information available to them with you around to give it.

*with that settled, they proceed to take care of things with a quick command on their computer*

{==> Sophie. Be Hamnet & Factor}

*with that complete, they look up at Sophie, ready to tell her that they're done*

Done. Exit is behind you. Leave when you want, but you're upsetting the Imp.
What did you just do?
Short version, Made things about them.

Av can explain the specifics on the interaction between Doom and Life if you want to get into the specifics. the important thing is that it worked, and it will continue to work.
I...would not call what I just made an informed decision.
pfffffh... *they sound a bit exhausted*

Doom and Life seem to attempt to emulate eachother, but fail to do so perfectly.

At their best, when they try to emulate eachother, they end up attempting to emulate themselves since that is what the other would do.

This is how Doom and Life can actively affect eachother with their content.

'bing' *the other guy checks the message sent by Av, and reads it for Sophie*

Av says that, 'it is no longer the story about someone who is wanting to keep their children out of the game, but rather the story about two kids who's parents have had mysterious pasts and interactions with strange forces'.

So yea. a small command affecting Doom/fate will work its subtle ways in getting Life to emulate it a little differently. Just enough that Life will end up trumping Doom when it comes down to it.

There is not much of anything, aside from actively choosing to take control and complicate matters in your favor via things like using Time travel to plant information and efforts towards what you wish to have happen, that can 100% ensure the exact way you want things to go.

We just try our best, and the best is what should usually end up happening.
*she nods slowly* I think I understand. Thank you.
Now... If that is all, I am very busy.

*they set back to work, looking at one of the microbes & un-muting the Imp*

'ANERAUG-KLEDtHM! GNERAUGH!'
*she turns, looking briefly at the imp in mild curiosity before going back through the door again*
*Av is there, along with Dots. Av looks over to briefly acknowledge Sophie before talking*

How did it all go? Make a new friend?

[==>] ... *Dots is as still as ever* [ERR]
I suppose, by a certain definition of "friend." He's as cagey as you, but more, hm, blunt about it.
Thats nice!
So, anything else you'd like to talk about before waking up?
There's plenty that could be talked about. What was Dots's one 'failing in blood'? What's up with that bizarre Imp? Who exactly is it that Dots might possibly end up meeting? Or maybe, are there any questions you want to be asked.

[ERR] ...
