-Good...it's attention now on you, it gave her a bit of breathing room away from the creature. Now then...the big guns. Your ammo automatically sliding back into place, you summon your second hand crossbow and start unloading into the creatures chest with both at once. Firing as quickly as your spacial armory reloaded your weapons.
First crossbow: 11, 21, 14
Second crossbow: 16, 18, 7

All but one of your shots hit their mark, one of them even disabling one of its arms. The bolt is lodged in its shoulder, rendering it entirely useless, but this has not dissuaded it from making its way towards you.
It makes an inhuman moaning sound, reaching it's arm out, almost to you... when Opalie's piece of driftwood clubs begins to bludgeon it without reprieve, the ghoul unable to do much of anything under the rain of blows. They don't seem to actually doing much damage to it, but it's definitely distracted.

Noting that one of it's arms was already down for the count, you aim for the other shoulder hoping to put that one down for the count as well. Only launching one bolt per crossbow instead of doing another unloading shot. Hoping that the increase in focus on less shots will help them have more impact on the more specific location

The ghoul collapses, immobile and once again dead, body damaged too much to properly function. The woman kicks it a few times to be sure, before dropping her club and putting her arms around herself, shivering.
She looks at you shrewdly, trying to decide what you're going to do next... she seems almost suspicious? But in the end, she stays where is she is.
"Thank you, for that. I don't know how long it would have taken me to put that thing down on my own... especially on a cold moon. My name's Opalie, by the way."

Daxton regarded her for a moment, then took off the traveler's cloak he was wearing and offered it to her.
"It's made for a dragonborn so it might be a bit large on a human, but it should keep you warm. The cold won't phase me as much as it would you. The names Daxton by the way"

"Thank you." She eased up some, accepting the cloak and putting it on.
You notice that what had looked like armor earlier, is actually crab chitin. It covers her chest down to her belly, and then part of her shoulder. As far as you can tell, it looks like it's part of her somehow, which is extremely peculiar.
Sometimes people make armor out of weird things, and you'll run across the occasional mage that's fused themself with something, but she's no magic user. Her hands are calloused and worn from hard work, and she doesn't have that faint crackle of energy about her.

*Daxton nodded slightly* "I can see why you might have been trying to hide out during one of these moods, not many understand changes caused by shards of Ardos....and I can see why one might be worried about the townspeople while they are already worked up from a night like this"
"Is that what did this?" She looked like she genuinely hadn't known. "I was thinking of finding a wizard to try and reverse it... but those can be very pricey, and then there's the matter of getting into town without causing alarm."
"Yes, I have a pretty good notion that a shard of ardos caused your change....how you came into contact with one is actually something I'd love to hear sometime. However...unfortunatly such a thing cannot be cured by any mere wizard"
"However...I do know a...friend that is studying the effects of such shards. If anyone might help you, it is likely he is your best bet"

"I'll tell you about what happened on the way to meet your friend?" Opalie asked hopefully.
"Good news and bad news....Bad news, I have some jobs that need my immediate attention first around here. Good news, when I'm finished with those jobs, I do plan on going back to where he is located. If you want to get there quickly....well your welcome to help me out with what I need to get done. Plus, traveling with a member of the order....as long as you stick close to me, your appearance shouldn't be an issue. People tend to give us a pretty decent stock in what we are doing...no matter how we, or our companions look to a degree"
*Daxton replied, gesturing at his scaled dragonborn form, one which did not seem all that common in this area* "however all the same....I wouldn't go around expressing too freely what caused your change as of yet, people place much fear in the shards"

"Better than sticking around and risking people thinking I have some kind of contagious disease or something..." Opalie said, blowing a stray lock of hair out of her face. "What do you have to do, anyway?"
"well...how familiar are you with demons?"
*Daxton replied to her query, taking a stance and turning his back to her. Then with a slight shift of his leather armor, since his traveling cloak was no longer covering it, he revealed the tattoo on his back that he had gotten in dedication to his chosen patron god.....Order*

"I've worked with a tiefling or two," she answered. "But a demon? Never had much business with them." She thought about it for a second. "Well, unless you count the time one of the captains I worked for tried summoning one 'cause she wanted... he? her? them? to grant her underwater breathing? But I dunno, the price seemed awful high for that one."
"thats because summoning one is one of the most foolish things something can do"
*daxton straightened his armor and readjusted it back to covering him properly*
"I've been tasked with looking into a recent summoning circle that was found nearby, and eliminating the demon it brought forth if one is found and is necessary....and if one is found, it will be"
*he turned back to face her again*
"It was simply fortunate timing that I was around to help out the town with the cold moon"

"I can imagine," Opalie replied. "I don't know much about demons, but I'll be as much help as I can."
"Your tough and decent in a fight. When it comes down to it, it's always useful to have someone like that watching your back in combat. The more demonic aspects beyond that.....I've been trained in myself. I just need someone to help me hit things when the chips are down"
Daxton offered her his large scaled hand
"sound like a deal you might be interested in?"

Opalie accepted. "You seem skilled enough yourself; I'd be happy to have your back. I'm better at keeping a thing distracted better than I am actually killing things, but I think you can handle that just fine," she said with a smile.
"Given my own style of fighting....someone who's good at distraction is more a boon than you might realize"
he turned and started towards the mouth of the cave again
"Now then, lets head back to the village....I need to check in with my progress here, and we should get you fitted with some proper gear"
