The night passed easily enough, and breakfast was served downstairs. Rhuteb was chatting with one of his wait staff near the entrance to the kitchen, and the place was actually pretty busy. It looked like a pretty decent amount of people had been put out of their homes because of the damage the Cold Moon had done.

*Daxton sat and had his breakfast. Biting it back, as well as a small cup of coffee before they'd being there day. The amount of displaced townsfolk was sad....but not uncommon after a cold moon. The best he could do to help them was to take care of the cult problem. After all...they didn't need more worries ontop of this, and he wasn't exactly a carpenter*
Opalie came down not too much later, looking much better than she had the night before. She yawned as she sat across from him, ordering a cup of coffee first thing.

"Mornin'."
"Better than sleeping in a cave, aye? The town seems friendly enough, friendlier than others I've been too before at least. Always makes the job a bit more enjoyable when it's done to protect a place I like"

*Daxton finished up his breakfast, and decided to make some small talk while he waited on her finishing as well*

"So I heard a bit last night, but how about you tell me a bit about yourself. Not just the situation of your arm, that too of course, but also about who you are as a person. After all if we are too work together....I like to know who's watching my back....and you can feel free to ask any questions of me as well"
"Sure." She leaned back in her chair, and took a second to figure out where to start. "Well, I'm not really too familiar with friendly towns. My mom likes to say I was born to the sea; I come from a family of fisherman. Spent practically my whole life either in the sea or on a ship, just making port once in a while.

"So you mentioned you're a part of some kind of Order?"
"Sounds like the sort of life I can scarcely imagine. Aye, I'm sent all over the place....but I've still always had the order to return to. Having the entire sea as your home....It sounds both very freeing, and very....unstable"

"Yes, the order of Saint Peter. Primarily we are monster hunters, help towns out when they send word of aid our way. Usually our busiest nights being the cold moon...hence why I was out and about to find you last night. Although thats not the main reason I was sent here by the order, just an added bonus of timing. My main reason for being sent here at the moment, is to investigate rumors of a demon summoning cult"
Opalie shrugged. "It is and it isn't. If you're lucky, you wind up with a consistent crew and the ship's your home. The work can be hard, and the sea's a cruel mistress, but you learn to rely on the people around you and they rely on you. Of course, if something happens and you have to move on... it can be a little rocky. But I think that can be said about a lot of things.

"Don't think I've ever heard of the Order of Saint Peter, either. But it sounds like a noble enough cause; I would have been in a bad way if you hadn't shown up, anyway. So what's the deal with this cult?"
[[It looks like a small cult has popped up. Farmer Bobrick claims to have seen some hooded figures behind the Arbys, where some things have been going missing. It was going to be dismissed as theft, but then Madeline, all her cats, and her house just vanished. There's something else there now, but no one can quite say what, but it's weird and the grass is weird and Farmer Bobrick says there was a demon that "scampered off into the night to cause mayhem."]]
Daxton repeats back to Opalie what he had been told by his operations officer, as well as by the town sheriff.

"It sounds a bit silly in the way it's been reported I know, but amid all the farmer ramblings I do believe I hear some of the tell tale signs of a legitimate Demon summoning. I was going to check out that vanishing house as the next part of my investigation today. Seems like the largest magical disturbance and might lead us on to further leads"

Then he takes another sip of his coffee, watching her expression carefully to see how she might take this little tale of his that he was told to investigate into.

Opalie looked somewhere between intrigued and wary. "Always wanted to know where places like that go. I mean, it's usually assumed to be certain death 'cause underwater that's a great hunting strategy, but you hear about stuff like Elsweyr and Merlod and Dulzaq's Belly and you can't help but wonder, you know?"

[If you want, you can role a history check to see if Daxton knows about the places she's mentioned.]
(Daxon history check for knowledge of mentioned locations before he replies)

rolled 1d20 and got a natural 10. After the modifier of -2, got 8

"Aye...I think. Admittedly I've heard rumors...but mostly just the names. I get the general idea tho"

*Daxton raised his gaze to match with hers, his tone taking a slightly more serious note*

"You may not be too far off with the death part tho...these are demon cultists and potentially a proper demon as well. Nasty business all around. I will see it through as my duty, but you are not so tightly bound to this. Make sure this is something you a truly willing to join me in before we depart. I do not doubt your resolve, that much was made clear last night, but I would not blame you either should these sorts of things not be your inclination"
"The way I see it, you either choose a path or one's chosen for you. And it's gonna be an adventure dealing with this either way," she said, tapping her fingernails on her chitin. "I'm up for shaking some cultists from their nest."
A small grin parts the dragonborn's scaly mouth. That was admittedly the answer he was hoping his newfound companion would give him. So far, she seemed decent company and wasn't half bad in a fight. He could do far worse for backup if she was game.

Standing, Daxton walks over to her side of the table and offers her a hand. Both as a hand up, and as a more symbolic gesture of camaraderie

"Well then, shall we get started?"
Opalie took it, ready to leave. "So where you wanna start?"
"with a little information gathering from the locals"

*Daxton waves down Rhuteb once more*

"Hail friend, do you think I could inquire a bit about one of the more bizzare things I've heard in your town history. I need to know about the dissapering house of one Madeline, and perhaps where it used to be located"
Rhuteb made eye contact and gave a little nod, having something he had to wrap up before he was free to go over. The events of last night had proven to be too much for an orc, and he was a little hysterical about the loss of his home. Rhuteb directed his attention to a surprisingly muscular elf before making his way over.

He looked tired, but still had a friendly smile. "Ah! Yes, Lord Tillab had mentioned that someone from the Order was coming to look into that. I'll be happy to tell you what I know.

"Madeline lived on the outer fringe of town; she thought the townspeople hated her for being a witch. Which she's not, and no one does," the tone he used was amused and affectionate. "Father Yewborough couldn't detect a magical bone in her body. If you head south, staying close to the forest line, you'll find the spot where her home used to be.

"Bobby will take you there, if you'd like. Life knows he's been dragging Nietve out there every chance he gets; he's convinced there's a demon involved, looking to bring a demonic realm to this one and rain down fire and brimstone. Gives me the creeps listening to him; Bobby's always had a sense about things. Knows when someone's gonna get sick, when there's going to be a wedding or a death, always able to predict a storm; that kinda thing. If Bobby's saying there's a demon, I'm inclined to believe him."
The dragonborn considered this a moment before nodding.

"A good a lead as any, can you tell me where to find this 'Bobby'?"

If anything else even if possibly crazy this man might have some sort of extra information that could be useful to the investigation. Daxton was a little itchy to get back into the field proper rather than running around town, but this was an important part of any investigation.
Rhuteb had to close his eyes for a minute to think; there were so many people coming and going, it was hard to keep track of everything.

"...I can't say for sure, but I imagine he'll be by the smithy at some point. He and Ebrose usually wind up helping each other out after Cold Moons. It's on main street; you can't miss it."
