Information
Watch members are expected to be around IC to handle problems and difficulties. Their job is to enforce the city laws as well as ensure the safety of the citizens. Some members of the watch may be expected to go on far patrols out into the forests to clear the way between Siochain and Fallow Downs, a nearby hamlet.
Each member of the Watch is provided with one set of steel armor crafted by the smith, Thorne al Blaidd. This armor will be custom fit, so it is expected that you will RP this out with Thorne, please. It doesn't matter if you have your own armor, either. The armor provided by the city is used during parade dress or other such functions as well as providing protection for those who do not have plate mail armor. The image below is a close depiction of what Siochain's armor looks like. On the breastplate is the Awen, the city seal.
When not in full armor (most members of the Watch don't wear full armor all the time when on duty), members of the Watch wear black linen pants, a gray linen shirt, and a jerkin with the Awen on the back. They are expected to wear the symbol of Siochain on their belt (usually embroidered on a piece of cloth) as their badge of office. They are also expected to be clean and well-groomed at all times.
It should be noted that there is an NPC guard force appropriate to the size of the city's NPC population. They may be played by PC guards for purposes of handling brawls or other large events, and they are explicitly not cannon fodder. While they are not there to tapdance on a PC's fun, if you play stupid games, you'll win stupid prizes. The NPC's also may be utilized by staff to facilitate large-scale RP (such as the Drake fight or the wolves fight) to add background to the awesomeness of PC's. They can also help repel invasions of NPC characters/creatures and should be considered to be well-trained, orderly, and generally courteous.
If you wish to pirate an NPC guard and have him be corrupt for the purposes of your RP, contact Ceara and double check with her. Chances are she'll say yes, but it's best to ask the question anyway.
On an OOC Level
Players who wish to be members of the Watch must not use their powers for evil! OOC, I mean. Members of the Watch are expected to behave well, as they represent the dream as a whole. This also means we sometimes need to let the bad guys get away. However, if there is a situation where a person playing a character at odds with the law has this chronic need to escape the law (particularly in ways that are godmoddish) then that is a situation that should be brought to the attention of the dream admins.
If you are a player who wants to play "le sneaky character" and not get stomped by the guard for being sneaky, skulky, and generally ill reputed, that's all right. We welcome that kind of RP in Siochain, provided it's done in a proper manner. If you are constantly doing big, flashy things that would draw guard attention and involvement, you will likely spend some time in the gaol.
We try for a degree of realism in the dream when it comes to crime and punishment, so please understand that we aren't going to let bad guys run rampant forever. This could include, should the crime and repetition be bad enough, execution or banishment of the character. This is explicitly not a punishment against the player. Explicitly. However, if we have a character running about committing constant, heinous murders and they're caught, they probably won't just get a fortnight in jail.
