As it is well known to our players, the woods of Siochain are a strange, wondrous place that can prove both beautiful and terrifying depending on how far you are from civilization. The Watch tries to keep folks from wandering too far from the town, as things get more dangerous the further out you go.

As such, Caoimhe has started coming up with some fantastic creatures and plants to populate our little slice of insanity. Other folks are welcome to make suggestions to the staff if you have something interesting and fun or just plain zany you'd like to see added to the world of Sisceal.

Flora
  • Oblivion Flowers - These innocuous flowers look like black velvet petunias, and they run in packs; if they manage to trap a traveler or sneak up on the unsuspecting, they will attack with their pollen and use it to steal their memories. [Caoimhe]

  • Snappinglions - As it sounds, these are dandelions that make lion noises and snap at folks. Careful. They can leave nasty little bite marks. [Caoimhe]

  • Singing Vines - The vines themselves do not sing. In fact, they change one's gender for a short time. Many fae use them to find a new singing voice when in court. The effects last for a few hours or up to a day or two, depending on the length of time the individual is exposed and leave no ill effects when they wear off. [Caoimhe]

  • Black and White Anemone - Long thought to have been made extinct; this rare beauty grows in small clusters beyond the Shallows. They are extremely difficult to obtain but are thought to turn one's most dearly desired imaginings to reality for a fleeting moment. It is said that more than one good fae has lost their life to the addictive nature of this effect. [Caoimhe]

Fauna
  • Forest Drakes - Roughly the size of a moose in height, these somewhat shy lizards are sometimes spotted in the woods around Siochain. They are not particularly aggressive unless provoked, and tend to avoid contact with people. They come in earth tone colors, mostly browns and greens and mottled mixes of the two.

Should a person choose to fight one, they find swiftly that these creatures have a nasty bite that will most likely get infected. While not venomous, per se, they are scavengers whose mouths are swarming with bacteria. A player likely will not know this unless they've been spending time researching fauna or talking to the rangers, however. [Ceara]

  • Mountain Drakes - These rarely-seen drakes are highly aggressive. They are massive, territorial, and should be avoided at all costs. While they are typically the size of an elephant at the shoulder (and the length of several of them), they can grow to be the size of a house if old enough. These beasts have few weaknesses and are covered in thick, heavy plating that is hard as stone. It takes a literal army to fight one of even the smaller sizes.

They are typical in the higher peaks of the mountain range into which Siochain is built, though they rarely come close to the city itself. They are, however, a concern for travelers who eschew taking the roads and decide to go mountaineering on their own. Those travelers often do not make it back. [Ceara]

  • Bearcupinodile - Yep. It's what it sounds like. This is a monster the size of a brown bear covered in quills like a porcupine with a face and jaws like a crocodile. They're just plain mean. Not to mention ugly. One nearly mauled the head of the Watch to death six months ago. They're not unheard of, but they don't tend to spend much time very close to town. As solitary creatures, folks won't see them in packs. [Ceara]
