After talking with a few people about what's been established about the Peacekeepers I thought I'd write up both some of the branches/thoughts I used for Ceci's backstory and some other ideas.

Since 'Peacekeepers' has been used to encompass both the GalFed's military and police forces, I've assumed they are a gendarmerie, and taken that into account in my layout. Keep in mind I'm not an authority and none of this is canon, I just thought my obsessive over-thinking might be useful to other people who wanted to flesh out Peacekeepers but was intimidated or confused by the lack of info. Especially since for the longest time we only had two ex-Peacekeepers and a maybe-Peacekeeper?

⫸Galaxy Federation Peacekeeping Squad (GFPS)
A gendarmerie encompassing both galactic and local police forces, as well as the military defence force utilized by the Galaxy Federation. It's broken into several branches depending.

⫸Branches
Peacekeeper Enforcement and Policing Agency (PEPA)
What we primarily think of as 'Police' and Investigatory forces. Includes all levels, from galactic to system-wide to planetary. Anything below that is usually done locally.

>Galactic Federation Bureau of Investigations (GFBI)
Analogous to the FBI. Investigates inter-system infractions, and takes over any PBDI cases that cross boundaries.

>Planetary Bureau of Domestic Investigations (PBDI)
Oversees all lower forms of Peacekeeper-lead task forces, planetary and system police forces. Helps in training of non-Peacekeeper-lead police forces in systems that choose not to use them.

>Internal Affairs
For investigating PEPA misconduct.

>Galaxy Federation Intelligence Agency (GFIA)
Analogous to the CIA, dealing with all foreign affairs and threat-assessments. This involves investigating infractions occurring on non-GalFed soil, 'deporting', war crimes, and espionage.

Peacekeeper Military Defence Force (PMDF)
Traditional military. Probably most like the Navy in operation, as forces are usually sectioned onto assigned starships (Star Trekky). I've traditionally used Navy ranks, following what I saw other people doing. So a little overview: Officers are divided into two categories.
  • Commissioned Officer (COs): These are officers that hold a position of authority ('earned a commission') and (usually) joined the Peacekeepers with an existing degree or specialty--such as a Medical Degree or previous training as a weapons specialist, etc. They hold different ranks than Enlisted personnel. (US Navy Commissioned Officers Ranks)

  • Enlisted (Non-Commissioned) Officers (NCOs): Oversimplifying, but officers who joined the Peacekeepers without previous training and received all of their training while with the Peacekeepers. They earn their rank through promotion. (Enlisted Rank Wiki)

>Civilian Liaisons and Sentientarian Aid Group
'Sentientarian' being the equivalent of Humanitarian on an interstellar, multi-species'd scale. CLSA organizes and requests sanctioning for sending aid to planets and systems in-need, within or outside of the GalFed's reach. They have both their own internal Medical and Relief groups, and the ability to dispatch other Peacekeeper military units to assist.

>Medical Division
Includes field medics, combat medics and specialists. All officers in this division are COs, having entered either with an existing MD or while still completing medical schooling or training, with the intent of doing their residency within the Peacekeepers. Members of the Medical Division can serve as CMOs or other medical personnel on starships, starbases, as part of group battalions, within military hospitals...

»Armed Emergency Medical Battalion
Quite simply, combat medics. An elite group sent in during or after a conflict to retrieve and treat patients. Protected by the equivalent of the Geneva Convention; knowingly firing on an AEMB (or any MD, while they are wearing their insignia) is considered a war crime.

They are also tasked with retrieving the deceased.

»Cybernetics Corp

Because there is more (considerably more) money in private cybernetics practices, military cybernetics are a rare sort. When people remember they exist at all. A tiny, elite group that is spread quite thin across the Bermuda Galaxy. They're usually stationed on key military satellites or military hospitals.

Although normal Peacekeeper doctors and surgeons can perform standard cybernetic surgeries (amputated limb sockets, cybernetic eye replacements, etcetera), the Cybernetics Corp is in charge of initial measurements, consultations, and more specialized and complex surgeries. Plus all cybernetic commissions (when customized cybernetics are used, versus mass-produced wares).

They are also in-charge of maintenance on military cyborgs and military cybernetics, and can work alongside weapons specialists to design cybernetic weapons. Usually has a joint MD/PEng, or may be specialized on one side or the other (surgeries, or building of cybernetics).

»Bionics Partnership Branch
Offshoot partnership with the Galactic Corps of Engineers concerning upkeep of Peacekeeper androids. They can have an MD or a PEng. When not present (as they're also a bit of a rare sort), these duties often fall to classical engineers. Technically a type of combat engineer.

>Judge Advocate General (JAG)
Deals with investigating internal affairs and upholding military law and justice. Incharge of sorting out general infractions all the way up to serious war crimes, and doling out court martials and discharges. The jurisdiction of military prisons also falls under the JAG.

(Also the ones behind a sad video of an arrested cybernetics specialist getting their head slammed against a lab desk a few times.)

⫸Gear
MAC Suit
Quote:
MACS stands for Modular All-Environment Combat Suit and is a type of customizable battle dress for many of the Galaxy Federation's armed services that are stationed in areas were low gravity and hostile environments are expected. While the degree for personal modification is high, there are five 'stages' (stages 0-4) that act as a more standard equipment so squads can be on the same basic page and prepared for certain conditions. Due to the diverse mission profile of the Federations needs there may be special variants of each stage, but the basic 0-4 stage structure is based on humanoid needs to set a general standard.

Security Drones

Drones are deployed by Peacekeepers for Local Government peacekeeping. They're the 'first responders' more often than not, and are maintained by the local force or Peacekeeper presence. They're able to scan people's badges and access their extended bio, including their criminal record, on the spot.
Quote:
Drones (followed shortly by law enforcement) will be able to detect standard cloaking devices, any weaponry, etc. Cloaking devices and any type of weapons that seem military grade or for more than personal defense would be immediately confiscated upon detection.

*This will be added to... Extensively.
Added a bunch of things... Threw down some suggested rankings (based on what I used for Ceci and what I saw other people using). Pulling from the Navy and the Marines.
Wow, this is really great and useful, Ceci! I love worldbuilding, and watching the Cosmos grow!
If it's helpful, I put a detailed description of the MACS gear the Gal Fed used on Amber's page, below her desc. There might be typos because it was a stream of consciousness kind of thing.

Yessss.
Mini-blurb for Security Drones. Mostly just copied over relevant info and linked to rest.
