Been a while since I've posted any updates. I'll keep this short.
I said I'd come back to working on the group when I felt able to do so, and for the past 3 weeks, that's what I've been doing. This group is going to get something of a "2.0" revival, and things will be a little different with how it is run and what I will expect.
You can already see some of the changes in the Rules section, but I will obviously go over all of the changes in a proper announcement once I am fully ready. I've pushed the more "essential" changes to the group's page, but there are a few things which currently only live in my private files that will remain there until they can all be released at once.
Having said that, there is one change that I feel I should let you all know about in advance: In 2 weeks from time of posting, this group will be going from a 13+ space to an 18+ space.
There are a number of reasons why I'm doing this, but the biggest one is because I'd like to also make a Discord for the group, though the forums will remain for those who prefer forum RP or just take issue with how Discord functions. In general, I also feel very ill-equipped to handle the burden of administrating a 13+ space on today's internet, when "13+" means a bit more than just allowing kids to participate but not necessarily having to make accommodations for them beyond what the law requires. Sadly, this is not so much the case on the modern internet. Now, there is more expectation to make exceptions for minors, often at the expense of adults to be able to express themselves freely.
I sincerely apologize to anyone below 18 who joined the group before this point. I have, up until recently, tried to run spaces as the kind of adult that I would've respected as a teenager. Unfortunately, trying to maintain this on today's internet creates more problems than I have the time or ability to deal with. Prior experience in other parts of the internet have taught me this the hard way. I vehemently abhor gatekeeping and this was not a decision I made without a lot of internal back-and-forth, but going forward, every space that I curate will be 18+ as well.
In light of this change, I do not feel it would be fair to keep old forum thread which minors may have contributed to, but will no longer have access to after the group goes 18+. I am giving everyone a 2 week notice to back up any posts they cared about, because after that period, the boards will be wiped clean of threads. This is in the name of fairness and security.
The boards may also see a considerable restructuring beyond this change, but I will lay all of that out in a future post.
