I'm going to compile this into something more coherent before I post it in the Eileadora forum.
In ages past, the Trys'tet were born of the Green Goddess, a race of sentient trees who were sent to the realms of man and furre to further the goals of their Goddess, and expand outwards. They were given many names by the creatures they met-- Treants, Ents, Dryads, and so on by the races they came across. And as they met these races, they began to take on their shapes. Amorphous entities of branches, vines, flowers and the like came to carry the shapes of men and furres, and learn their languages, and their cultures.
And then the Trys'tet came upon the Shadowlyng race, and their Dark Alliance. The Trys'tet were defined by the light-- the sun nourished them and helped them grow. The two races were as different as races can be, but they came to hold territories bordering one another. As borders expanded, the tribes of the Trys'tet and the growing Empire of the Dark Alliance came to skirmish, fighting over territories, places to grow outlying bastions, and grazelands.
Eventually, the two races came to direct hostilities, and in a decisive blow, the Dark Alliance ran over the Trys'tet forces, plunging into their forested citadel, and the God-King Mykael defeated the Goddess of the Trys'tet.
The God-King found the Green Goddess beautiful, and took her as his concubine, an act that ripped at the very hearts of her race of followers, severing their connection to the sun, and giving them a seed of Darkness, that bound them to the Shadowlyngs. Despite being a conquered people, the Trys'tet found themselves treated well, and to solidify peace and servitude, a young Shaman known as Larish was wed to Mykael's son, who would become King of the Shadowlyng race, with her as his queen.
The Trys'tet have since become equals with their Shadowlyng captors, proving their loyalty through the eras.
