World
GeneralIn (very) short, I've been building something Medieval/Victorian/Steampunk-ish world that has its bases on the game of chess. There are two main kingdoms (and several smaller ones, but the 2 are the most important (because the biggest armies)). The army is a big part of each kingdom and every soldier starts from the very base from where they'll have to rise up and gain experience or such to promote into a higher class. There are a few new classes
Each kingdom has their own respective main color. And you probably already guessed that the main ones are Black and White (not named so though) of which the white one is more carefree but also more corrupted, people don't respect eachother all too much - at least those that they don't personally know. Meanehile the black kingdom is ruled with an iron fist, there are little to no rebellions though because everyone knows their Place and if negativity is seen to be rising it'll be dealt with rather quickly. These are pretty much the norms, but of course there are all sorts of other types of people than just the 'most common' ones
There was one main kingdom, a gray one. One day stuff happened and as the two Childs of the king were playing out, the black one ended up on accidentally cutting off the arm of the white one (or so go the rumours). No-one knew for certain and since they were kids, no-one listened to them.
The kingdom divided into Black and White, each now ruled by the kids although they weren't allowed to do a thing until they had grown up.
Overall the world is peaceful but several smaller kingdoms are always fighting and trying to take over stuff
And in the 'shadows' a bigger thread is building up its forces
There are many kings per kingdom btw
As weird as that sounds like, but as the kids matured they became the main kings. They may attend to the more playful variations of the war game, but are not allowed to the actual battle field where people actually are killed
There had been disagreements between the people, some requesting more freedom and the others favouring the original
The freedom side blamed the Black kid and accused them for having tried go cut the White one up and silencing the rebellion. They became aggressive and violent themselves, started to defy the rules and act out their own will. Each time only blaming the other side for trying to take their freedom
Eventually the Gray gave up. White supporters would be send away to follow and find their ideal things while the black would stay and stick to traditions
They grew fed up and couldn't keep it under control, so it was a partial punishment and such
The White were leaving and fleeing little by little, so they just stripped them from their belongings and sent them off, solidifying their population and such
And the Black one stayed
Where as the White one was taken away by the freedom seekers and grown into their ideals
Ovania
The white kingdom.
more carefree
trouble keeping inner balance = visible curve between the higher and lower ranks
the lower ranked citizens have more respect towards each other than the army has within its own ranks. To be honest, the different classes of the army don't always collaborate with each other all that nicely and regularly need a look through to make sure that the classes don't start a fight amongst each others
life on the edge of the kingdom is rather different when compared to the one closer to the castle
the kings themselves don't realy know a lot of what is going on outside of the wall/muuri
Point of view on the field:
First strike
Advantage of first move, they can tryr to attack before the other can counter
Castle location:
castle on the edge, leaning against a sturdy mountain
Area:
older one as the general area
lakes
large fields
very flat area overall
forest is wild and it has been mostly growing on its own. Mostly the only tenders of the forest are wild animals and the few woodcutters that work in the kingdom People mostly prefer using the old and near dead trees as supplies for what they need and don't practice wood cutting or (harvennus) all that much
both connect to the ocean
Kohrin
The black kingdom. The orders here are absolute and the kings rule with an iron fist. Everyone knows their place and revolutions and rebellions are near non-excistant. Citizens respect each other, be it rich or poor people, a farmer or a craftsman. They know that each and everyone of them play a part in the well being of the kingdom itself, so they respect all work that is done.
The army also is highly looked up to in here and enjoy a good doze of respect from the more common work doing classes. However, rules are more stricth to the ones closer to the kings than the ones just selling their freshly harvested crops and alike.
People that go against this view of society are looked at unapprovingly. Hatred is not encouraged in any way. It is more likely than not that the encourager of mischief and rule shatterer will be punished - either by forcing them to work without payment or by sending them to jail. If the person still seems resistant and does not get back to their respected Place in the society, they will be terminated.
Point of view on the field:
Observation
Can see what kind of strategy the other one is trying to pull out, get behind their backs/expose the weak point and strike back/counter
Both can work or not )
Castle location:
castle in the middle
Area:
recently built
lots of forests
both connect to the ocean
roads
Caves, rivers
some hills

Pawns
♙Pawn♟
EnlargeTraits: Regular pawns come in every shape and size. Being the starting class, they are the most varying of any pawn type available.
Facility/Usage: Most of the pawns are trainees and freshly joined army members. Relatively young by age, they don't exactly have a lot of experience yet. The old lores state that the best way of training is seeing everything with your own eyes and experiencing it head on - hence the regular pawns are placed on the very front of the field. Also, they do their own share on protecting the higher ranking pawns and giving them more time to plan out the strategy they'll go by.
Weaponry:
Anything goes. Most commonly a sword or daggers, 'teräaseet'

♗Messenger(/Bishop)♝

Traits: The Messengers - Runners by another wording - are generally very quiet folk. Most of the prefer to stay silent and listen. There are chatty ones too though, but the silent ones are more common as the Messengers need to get used onto spending a lot of time alone in the forest, scouting or delivering scrolls. Most of them don't mind the lack of company and prefer the silence of nature - they spend rather little time with the rest of the pawns at the garrison anyway
In other words, these silent runners spend most of their time outside running around on errands and when they return, the Messenger prefers to rest themselves in their respective class house.
Mostly Messengers are fast and agile with a lot of stamina and good eyes. Slow and easily tiring pawns are recommended to pick some other class to promote to.

Weapons
hi
Swords: style
Lances
Axes
Bows (crossbows/jalkajousi?)
Magic
Guns
Sickels are used by those with a farmer/rural background
Magi is mostly just elemental magic, it's the kind you just 'create' in mid air when focused. Learning it can be rather time consuming as you need to build your nerves and such - you're not ready if the fire you create burns your hand or if it escapes from you when you didn't plan on it
And guns are the kind you can only shoot once, and then you need to load it again. And they are mostly modeled after muskets. Some variations do exist though, although having the pistol like version is mostly just for the king or such
unclassified possible weapons:
scythes?
'necklace' / magic shriking
Chains
See moreEach pawn and person comes with a chain
Is there from when you are few years old
Can be pretty much anywhere and in various shapes
Mostly colored golden
Nothing to do with the class you chooce, unless you have like a wing in it and become a flier or it has something similar to the shape of a horse head or a tower and you chooce to go By those paths... By any means, do it if you want
Death thingy

Games
See more- I will be playing them out and will count and note how the turns played out. You'll be noted when the game ends on how your character faired in the battle. You'll gain exp points accordingly and possibly earn some extra goods if you managed to survive 'till the end of the game or ate someone. Also, if your regular soldier pawn managed to make its way to the very end of the board
I've also been thinking, that since it's a chess based thing, I'll be most likely playing some chess myself and informing about it to the participants, they'll 'lend me' their pawns and suggestions on how they want to move (like negotiating with the king/ruler of the board who ultimately makes the moves), marking in how the game went and after that givin out something like 'experience points' or such according to those who participated
In the RP at least
In the real game thing the chess matches would pretty much just be optional minigames that you'd be able to challenge whenever you felt like it, but I'll be implying them here as some sort of 'bonus events' with a chance to gain something
Death
See moreSince this is all based on a game where the pawns get eaten and may not, under any circumstances, return after being eaten, I think I should write a bit about this.
In here, if your character 'dies/gets eaten' during a 'playful or non-serious match, it is not counted as dead but rather as a loss. Your character won't die because of these, mainly for the fact that most of the pawns can't help if they get eaten or such. Winners will always receive more glory and praises, but it depends on you yourself whether you want your character to be told that 'it was alright' and that 'they did well' even if they got eaten or if you want others to look down on the character and cause the character to take some route on dealing with it (such as ignore the 'barks', become depressed or hateful or anything you want). You can of course always try to RP out the situation after the battle with other players, have them comfort your character or whatever~ Who knows, the evening in the local pub could end up very interesting~?
If your character, however, dies in the battlefield in a serious squirmish: they are dead. Seriously injured characters can still be healed, although depending on the on the wounds they may be left with scars or disabilities such as missing limbs or eye sight or something more minor. Survivals should mostly be treated with respect on having come back alive, but there are known to be cases where the ones returning have instead received scolding from their allies. Reckless actions should not be encouraged.
Serious battles may affect your character in other ways too, not just physical appearance. Their personality might also see an impact of some sort. It is all up to you though to see whether you want or don't want for it to affect your character in one way or another - but be noted that going through losing all your allies and getting severely wounded many times may not exactly be all too healthy and your character could really be starting to show some signs of starting to develop anxiety or some other things. Your character is a 'living breathing, feeling' person.
Stats
See morethere is a limit on how much you can raise certain stat per 'exp. gain'. I think 3? or 2½
regular pawn gets +1 on every stat, then a random ammount like +3 to add to the other stats
A tower could get +7 stats
Technology
hino Computers, no androids, no robots
the press? also makes wood crafts
sinetti/seal (vaha juttu/wax)
Religion?
hiI'm thinking of it. Most likely won't be too big of a thing
