By all technicalities though... Monk is a listed class, just not by direct name. Just like Thief to me is better known as Rogue so too is Monk in DQ9 known as Martial Artist, or if you want to be more people of the cloth about it, there are also the Priest and Sage classes.
*Chuckles in amusement*
I do not fight with weapons outside of my hands, feet, and staff. I'm assuming that I can't elementally bend in Dragon Quest's world the way I can in the Hidden Sky Village that I call home and am uncertain how this would translate.

Elemental Bending without using Elemental Magic would be rather easy though. It's just the Armamentalist ability skills that can very well carry over to other classes once learned. A skill tree called "Fource". Fource skills give one of 5 elemental bonuses to typeless attacks, such as Wand and Staff attack skills and most Fisticuffs skills. And yes, "Fisticuffs" covers all manner of unarmed skills in DQ9.
The only thing this doesn't translate to is magic attacks, but if you can adapt to that, then you're gonna be just fine.
*raises a brow and listens but nods along as well*
So am I a rogue, martial artist, or armamentalist? Is it considered elemental magic if it's a natural oneness with all the Elementian elements?
*Enjoys the elementians discussing what might be considered elemental theory*

In the Dragon Quest world... Sadly yes. But it would be possible to shift between uses of the Fource.
As the site will note the use of:
Fire Fource, which grants the power of Fire.
Frost Fource, power of Ice.
Gale fource, power of Wind and Lightning.
Funeral Fource, power of Darkness and Earth.
Life Fource, Power of Light.
So... Yeah... Spells aside, that's some of the skills you'd have in your repertoire regardless of class, if you wish for such skills. And whichever class you choose is ultimately up to you. Or if you want to be one class for one fight and then change classes another minute, there is a skill from the Sage class called "Jack's Knack", which allows you to change class on the spot as long as you're out of battle.
And I say again that the RP will take place in late game/post game, and Jack's Knack is a very useful late game skill.

So am I a rogue simply because of my clothes or a martial artist because of my fighting style or an armamentalist because of my elementian control...or secretly a sage that changes into those based on the fight? I suppose I will need you to pm me a list of the skills and what not for those four classes and a link would be greatly apprecited.
*shrugs her shoulders before rolling them and rubbing the back of her neck*
Okay now to work out my familiar. Is there an elemental monstery thing that will work with one such as I?

With Jack's Knack learned, you can be any of those classes you want to be. Just as a side note though... When you change your class, your cloths will be magically altered as well. Just a bizarre rule of the actual game.
It'd definitely give you some variety for wardrobe choice though, so that might be fun to play around with.

You just wanna see me naked!

Think what you want, Cybele. Your choice if you want to say you've never been one of the classes and have chosen not to don an outfit. And just a heads up, there's no such thing as "naked" in DQ9. Even with no equipment what-so-ever, the least a character will have on is an undershirt and a pair of underwear.
Though there are 2 pairs of panties and 3 forms of bikini tops and bottoms available as female only equitable gear.
JUST SAYING!!

Did I come in at a bad time? I came in at a bad time. I should step out, but I was wondering if we're still waiting on Maleficent's post. In the meanwhile, how do companions work in the games anyway? I'm thinking of adding a pet to him, but I'm not quite sure yet.

No, you didn't come at a bad time. But in all honesty, I'm not sure what to say in the case of companions... If we're going by the game logic, then companions cannot exist in monster or animal form. But for custom logic which I would like to use... I want to say it's possible to have almost any non-boss related monster as a companion.
You're all welcome to make a suggestion for a companion if you like. Just as Ileana asked a while back and I'm thinking of letting her little blob translate into either a normal Slime or a She-slime. Maybe a Metal Slime if she wants it. But that's up to Ileana.
Then how would a snowy owl translate into DQ logic? Yes, I know it's a simple avian creature, but I did want it as a messenger or sorts for Michael, not really a fighting animal he'd use in battle.
Well... If it's not an animal that would be present at all times, a Snowy Owl would translate into just that. Theoretically there are different animal species such as cats, dogs, and birds in Dragon Quest. So I'd be willing to say that chosen pet would be acceptable as is.
All right, it was an initial thought! I just had to make sure just in case I do choose to give him an owl as a messenger pet. In terms of an actual fighting companion, I think he's capable as is without one.
But, what types of creatures would be offered if I did go that route? Can you give me a basic breakdown?

Well... As I said, you could have access to any Non-Boss monster in the monster list. That said, each monster has its own set of skills and weaknesses. For example... If say... You wanted a Bubble slime as your combat companion, that monster would be relatively weak, but would have a chance of inflicting poison on any other enemy it faced.
Another example... If you wanted a Treeface as your companion. That's essentially infinite Medicinal Herb healing items available over time.
Likewise a Treevil can use its own leaves as Yggdrasil Leaf items. They resurrect a single ally and restore them to MAX HP!!
There are some monsters like those I mentioned that you might like just for their applicable strategic value. But on top of those three there's roughly 250 other non-boss monsters in the game. So really it just depends on what kind of ally you're looking for.
And lets not forget the Rangers skill, Wolf Whistle. It allows you to call up a pair of wild wolves to attack for you. It's a really strong and useful skill to have.
Sorry. I was waiting to be shown the armor and what not he had picked out for me cause he did the conversions. I was curious what my little blobby pet would be converted too for the game. I'm not sure what is expected of me.
*Eyes Sevio as he again skips over her question about her elemental pet, will try again.*
Going back to my question about my familiar before you made the comment about magical clothing; is there an elemental monstery thing that will work with one such as I? I see that Michael has mentioned this and as I have been asking I am curious how my familiar would translate into the dragon quest world. Normally I play it as though my 'pet' aids in fighting by altering his elemental make-up to adapt to the fight as it changes. Would be essentially be changing the critter?
*Crosses her arms over her chest and sighs*
I'm still not certain what my actual class is going to be officially. The only reason you suggested Theif was because of my clothing and I'm still waiting on you to put up the image from your 'mini-game' so that I have some kind of reference as to what my person would have to look like in your world. Am I permitted to play a martial artist that dresses as a thief? This is your game so I am trying to play by your rules.
*rolls her shoulders as she waits on an answer to her questions*

Hey, Sevio, mind if I help out a little bit? I can do a bit of research, and maybe I can help point these lovely ladies in the right direction.
But Cybele, can you describe what kind of pet you have? All we know so far is that it changes its elemental makeup to suit the situation. Is it a blob like Ileana's? Or something else? If so, then that would translate best as a Slime companion. If not, then I think Sevio can point out what your options are in terms of what companion you can have.
Ileana, like Sevio said, if it's a blob, I would think Slime companion as well. The real question is, does it have any element or attacks? That really makes or breaks things. In terms of Armor, you can do what I did and look it up. I found this nifty link to all of the weapons, armor and whatnot for DQ 9; I also found a decent companion list for Monster Joker 2. Those two links might help you and Cybele out. (As a note, the first link that I gave goes to the Torso Armor, but the other links are near the bottom of the page.)
But, I think we all need to remember, it's still a fan-based parody of a game. I don't think it would matter much if we deviated from what our clothes looked like and stuff, as long as the basic mechanics are understood. We're not really doing a dice roll thing, so it's not like we really need to go by stat descriptions on an item either.
...I went off on a tangent, didn't I? Sorry for butting in, I just wanted to help in anyway I could.

Thank you, Michael. I couldn't have said that any better myself.
But, so that we don't overcomplicate things, I'd prefer it if we stick to just one game at a time if that's ok. But yes, DQ9 has its own set of monsters that may be tamable if you look into it and want to play in that way. That said, there aren't really any shapeless monsters with various elemental composition like there are in another group I made, which Cybele would fit into perfectly as she is, companion and all.
I also must point out that there is an item called the Slime Shield in DQ9 that looks exactly like the DQ series mascot. And it's essentially like having a pet slime on your arm that can occasionally block attacks for you. It's really interesting to think about in that way.

Even though this visual ref belongs to an In-Game boss enemy, I think you could still use it as a visual ref if you wanted. It seems somewhat like your drawn reference pic. I'd post the actual image, but for some reason it wont let me, so instead here's the link to it. If you like it, good deal, if not, I tried.
